Axl Rose with guitarist DJ Ashba, ostensibly Slash's replacement - is it really GNR? Walking into Houston's Toyota Center for the big Guns N' Roses show last week, we overheard people asking each other incredulously: "Slash is NOT with them???" Well, no. The guitarist left in 1996, on not-so-friendly terms with lead singer Axl Rose. As did pretty much all of the other original band members. So who was playing that Friday night in Houston? Was it Axl and a bunch of no-name scabs? Hardly - this version of Guns N' Roses can certainly [...]

After The Rising was released, Springsteen took the E Street Band on the road for what turned out to be a 15 month, multi-leg world tour. I saw at least 6 shows on the tour - not including the private rehearsal I snuck into and the night I spent listening outside Fenway Park - and I personally saw the shows evolve. Early in the tour the shows were somber but intense. I was there when the tour pulled into New York City's Madison Square Garden for what was an emotional night - not the party you normally [...]

This week began with the terribly sad news of the death of Clarence Clemons of the E-Street Band. Clemons had been a member of Bruce Springsteen's legendary backing band since 1969, and his exuberant saxophone was a key component in creating the distinctive sound of Springsteen's early records. You'll have read reams about Clemons' vast contribution to Springsteen's career in obituaries and articles written since last weekend, so I won't bore you with a copy-and-paste job here; but I had an interesting conversation with Martin Savings & Loan the other day about where the loss of [...]

As those in the music world and beyond continue to mourn the loss of Clarence Clemons, the saxophonist for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, our #htconvo on @Hidden_Track yesterday asked our followers if The Boss and the band should continue without the Big Man. Followers who were for the band pushing on were asked to supply who they would choose as a possible replacement for Clemons. READ ON [...]
