Evan Voytas' sound — fizzy bursts of R&B and funk beneath a keening falsetto — has been a long time in the making. In the four-plus years since he moved to L.A., the multi-instrumentalist has performed with rising stars from both the indie and mainstream realm. But if you were go to back in time and ask the college student Evan Voytas about the future, he certainly wouldn't expect to list experimental producer Flying Lotus or teen idol Teddy Geiger on his resume. The story of Voytas' personal voyage to the breathy crooner he is today may be quite [...]
Happy 2/1/12: ► Buzz Bands LA presents a night of free music at Harvard & Stone featuring 7Horse and Stephen Brower & the Silent Majority , along with DJ Mara Schwartz, There's no cover charge. ► British electro-funk duo Fujiya & Miyagi wind up a big U.S. tour behind their latest album "Ventriloquizzing" with a show at the Echo, supported by Evan Voytas and TV Girl. ► 2 Hearts and Chemicals , the bi-coastal collaboration dealing in cinematic take on shoegaze and dream-pop, make [...]
If y'all want some funky music to groove to, you need to check out Evan Voytas' latest EP, Can't Let Anybody Know Who You Are. Stitched with the high pitched sounds of Passion Pit , with a little more traditional rock guitar riffs, this guy is one giant compromise between indie and rock. This song, "You Don't Even Know Where It's At," is a climaxing song that is irresistible to bob your knee too. Check it out and let me know what you all think! You Don't Even Know Where It's At [...]
Evan Voytas - You Don't Even Know Where It's At Evan Voytas - Feel Me by Dovecote Records Our boy Evan Voytas has been busy living it up touring the world with prolific soulster beat heads Gonjasufi and Flying Lotus , but he has never stopped creating weirdo dance classics in a high pitched climaxing manner. His early shows are still clear in my mind - watching him switch out tapes and dance from side to side with nothing but [...]
Synth-popper Evan Voytas and his Feel Me EP has been one of the more infectious listens for me in this young year. You might recognize him from his contribution to the live bands Flying Lotus and Gonjasufi. His falsetto vocals that invoke Prince and The Bee Gees, along with a knack for creating smooth grooves and hooks, creates a sound that flows into your ears and doesn't leave your body. This is no more evident than the EP standout You Don't Even Know Where It's At that you [...]
"Feel Me" may be the most concise title Evan Voytas has come up with lately considering songs such as "Tomorrow Night We'll Go Anywhere," "Can't Let Anybody Know Who You Are," and the most recent single "You Don't Even Know Where It's At." However, along with that mouthful is always a rich earful. Initially garnering attention for his contributions to bands of Flying Lotus and Gonjasufi, Voytas has easily shifted focus to his solo material over the last few years with his Prince-like falsetto and ability to play around with texture, space and melody. [...]
On Tuesday, LA-based haze-popper Evan Voytas releases his new EP, Feel Me , on Dovecote. Below, you can stream the six-track effort in its entirety. Voytas, who started out as the guitarist in the live bands of Gonjasufi and Flying Lotus, crafts a brand of music that references everything from '70s FM pop to early '90s rap. EP standouts include the infectious electronica of "Can't Let Anybody Know Who You Are" and the boogie woogie groove of the title track.
Those of you familiar with the site will probably recognise Mr Voytas from the Tomorrow Night We'll Go Anywhere EP which Cascine released late 2010. Not much has changed since then in terms of the sound as it's still as silky as hell and good for soundtracking holidays in the sun, or late night drinks. Yes, that last sentence was probably a bit cheesy, but the versatility of the track really is its main strength. The track is taken from his new EP Feel Me , which is released via Dovecote Records on January [...]
Evan Goytas is a Pennsylvania transplant to the LA area, but the city seems to have helped him produce a unique brand of synth-pop. On the 24th of this month, he'll release a new EP, entitled Feel Me, on Dovecote Records. Surrounded by looping synth sounds and a simple piano melody, Goytas' voice floats on top bathed in reverb. It's almost like post-club music; something for the cool down after the crazy. There's a certain relaxing effect that makes it the perfect song to sit and listen to in the dark. It's brooding, but not in a heavy handed way. [...]
So as rich as 2011 proved to be for local music, 2012 promises even more. Following is Buzz Bands LA's list of "Bands to Watch" for 2012 — 33 newbies who have not yet released a full-length album and are on our radar to do so in the coming year. Whom did I miss? Leave a comment. Pictured above: Hands. After the jump, the list, alphabetically: Black Flamingo — Full-length in the works, and if anything on it sounds like "Golden [...]
Synth-pop crooner Evan Voytas has been honing his falsetto- and reverb-laden electro-pop ever since he landed in Los Angeles four years ago, but with each release, R&B and soul elements have grown luxuriously richer. So it's no surprise his forthcoming "Feel Me" EP (out Jan. 24 via Dovecote Records) turns out to be his most alluring collection of songs yet. The title track off his previous "Tomorrow Night We'll Go Anywhere" EP foreshadowed this new nurturing of warm, lush melodies. However, newer tracks such as "Can't Let Anybody Know Who You Are" not only continues the [...]

Album Review: Evan Voytas – Feel Me EP
When it comes to crafting a well-balanced partnership between minimal pop and disco harmonies, multi-talented musician Evan Voytas has the appropriate mix of synthesizers and beats at the ready. Not only does his music have grooves good enough to get you out of your seasonal depression, but the LA musician leans towards a carefree vibe that's sure to keep his five-song EP, Feel Me , on repeat. Long after Feel Me stops playing, the hooks will remain with you, and as an LA musician, he's no stranger to warm vibes that insist on [...]
