SOME OLD BANDS U MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT

Morbid Saint - Damien
When I am not trolling simple-minded, entry-level elitists, I enjoy the soothing, dulcet tones of some classic thrash or death metal. I am definitely not any kind of metal encyclopedia or authority on the subject, but I have realized that (sadly) I'm old enough to have heard a few bands that many younger metal fans [...]

Evil Dead Comes to the iPhone

There's going to be an Evil Dead game for iPhone. Yes, the game looks like it was made for the Nintendo Wii, which makes it all the more disturbingly funny. Even though it's an officially licensed game, there doesn't appear to be his Royal Chinness, Bruce Campbell, accounted for in the game. Weird. According to Geeks of Doom , "no final release date or pricing has been announced at this time. Also, the trailer features actual characters from game, and most importantly, the team promised that there will be 'lots of gore.'" [via Topless [...]

Rheto Sinks His Gold Fronts Into Sam Adams

Rheto Sinks His Gold Fronts Into Sam Adams I saw that the lames on Barstool were back discussing hip-hop yesterday . They're experts, yet they don't understand what an artist might mean by suggesting that he wants to maintain some sort of integrity. This shouldn't bother me; after all, these are the sort of clowns who helped Jock Jams go triple-platinum. But it does - primarily because they think the rap game is like that of pro sports, in which talent equals money. With their blind capitalist gusto and affection for Pearl Jam in mind, [...]

What are your favorite male film roles?

Being There - Original Trailer 1979
I know I said I was taking the day off, but here's one more thing I forgot to mention: This week PopMatters is counting down the 100 Essential Male Film Performances, and, so far, the selections are really good.

Drag Me To Hell

Drag Me To Hell Drag Me To Hell is the best kind of nostalgia. See, back when I was young and impressionable, I saw a movie called Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn. The flick is extremely, gut-wrenchingly violent; chock full of rotting flesh, blood, boils and even a dismembered hand. It's also one of the funniest films ever made. The thing is, while director Sam Raimi saw the sheer terror involved in calling up the spirits of the dead, he also saw the absolute absurdity of the situation. Mr. Raimi brings this same [...]

Evil Dead: The Musical

Evil Dead: The Musical The Evil Dead is a 1981 horror film written and directed by Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell. The film was extremely controversial for its graphic violence and gore, being initially turned down by almost all U.S. distributors, until a European company picked it up. Because of its graphic violence, the original version of the movie was banned in several countries. The movie spawned two sequels and the Evil Dead Trilogy has an intense cult following with fans clamoring for a fourth installment. If you haven't seen it or have no idea what these movies are about then [...]
