Washington DC favorites EXIT CLOV are back with a newer single that was first put out in 2008, and more recently released on the 2010 full length, 'Memento Mori'. The Lovely Hearts Club blog run by the good folk at Paper Garden Records cued us into this track recently. Our old Baltimore regional show hosted by Tim & Don had introduced this fantastic band to the network and we wanted to showcase this great new track to those of you familiar and maybe not so familiar with this group. Enjoy! [...]
Friday, November 12, 2010 Today's Quick Mention: I'm planning on sleeping all weekend, but that doesn't mean there isn't plenty of live music to see. Future Islands, Here We Go Magic, Felice Brothers, Adam Haworth Stephens, The Gary, the Dandy Warhols, Hopewell - they're all going to be here. Showlist Austin has the details. Enjoy. : Beady Eye - Bring The Light : I don't think I've paid any real attention to Oasis since I was in high school, so I have to [...]
Exit Clov are a Washington, D.C.-based indie pop quintet that rock like 90s grunge outfit L7 but whose pop sensibilities lean more toward one of the best Japanese acts from the same timeframe, Shonen Knife . Their sound? How about a bucket of Pop Rocks laced with Coke (not the kind that you'd find at Studio 54) . Also, they're just plain fun. Check out the clip for their video "MK Ultra" "after the jump" [...]

Blending the essential ingredients of electro pop and grunge like a best of the 90's super combo, DC's Exit Clov has one trait you'll be hard pressed to ignore... FUN! Exit Clov were discovered as a recommendation from DeVotchka's management and have kept an eye on the band ever since. Their single, "District Menagerie" beautifully combines electronic drums with twin female vocal harmonies over a simplistic piano melody. Alternatively, their music video for"MK Ultra" has more of an old-school punk feel with a touch of Atari filling in the gaps. It's [...]

Conventional wisdom suggests that everything is better with bacon. While we are still awaiting empirical evidence on that, DC's Exit Clov are operating under the assumption that pop music gains little from bacon, however, it can't hurt to have twin sisters fronting your band. But if the site of young Asian women fronting a pop act conjures up memories of the cuddly throwback I-IV-V garage rock perfected by bands like Shonen Knife and the 5, 6, 7, 8's, you should be prepared to be seriously disappointed by Exit Clov. This is about as sophisticated [...]
Bellflur, a long-time presence in Washington, DC scene, has been acclaimed for years for its fierce stage performance and knack for making odd musical tendencies seem comprehensible to listeners of all genres. The band's upcoming album asleep.asleep." was produced and recorded by Bellflur over the course of two and a half years. Bellflur enlisted several contributors from fellow DC acts to help realize this vision including members of Deleted Scenes, Exit Clov, Pree, Le Loup, and Meredith Bragg. Listen to "Insect Politics," the first single from their album asleep.asleep. Related Posts: Listen [...]
Exit Clov, the name, is an homage to Samuel Beckett's Endgame . It also serves as a call to arms and a personal manifesto for the band. Exit Clov , the band, is a Washington D.C.-based quintet led by twin sisters Emily and Susan Hsu who claim to be inspired by the madness of their city. When you live in the political capital of America, it's hard not to be influenced by everything around you. They're a young band that sings to a young audience - their music is music for 21st century kids. Formed in 2003, the [...]

Tomorrow is "official get out of the house and go visit a sales emporium that is open to the public for the express purpose of enabling cash (or credit) transactions in exchange for pre-recorded music". In other words, it's RECORD STORE DAY !!!!!!!!!! For those born after 1970, ask your parents what a record is. It's like those mp3s you listen to on your ipod, except it's real and sounds so much better (so I've been told). It's time to open up the wallet and spend some of your hard earned to get that elusive vinyl lp [...]
Despite being beaten to the post by the Washington City Paper with its feature, your humble all-stars proceed undaunted: Last January when we spent the week with Emily and Susan Hsu from Exit Clov in anticipation of the release of their latest, 'Memento Mori' they lamented the fact that it wouldn't be [...]

"Memento Mori" is the latest album from Washington, D.C.'s exciting and exclectic pop fivesome, Exit Clov . They're pretty well known around here, having opened for Kany West, Cloud Cult, Dr. Dog and Razorlight, among others, and having the could-be-a-gimmick-but-they-ac tually-have-talent fact that they're fronted by twin sisters Emily and Susan Hsu. The music is at first light and transparent, but there's actually layers to this brand of pop music. Quick, hooky and catchy but sightly off-kilter, Exit Clov are a band to check out! District Menagerie
Welcome to the 2nd day of Exit Clov's TVD Takeover :) So, several people have asked us to post the lyrics from our latest release, Memento Mori. We're planning to upload them to our website soon, but in the meantime, we're offering up little factoid blurbs about select tunes from the record. Yesterday, we wrote about 'Blue is Your Heart' and 'Free Zone.' We have three more for today, including 'District Menagerie' which is available for free download (exclusively [...]

Dun dun dun. Exit Clov sent us over two tracks from their new CD, Memento Mori , for your free consumption. But here's the deal: I put in a special code so that you can't download them unless you purchase tickets to go to one of their two concerts this weekend in DC (or the free one next weekend in NYC and another, not free, in Philly). So, yeah, the files are completely non-show-goer proof!* Jamie and I will be hitting up their show at IOTA on Saturday night, so if any of [...]
I've often wondered why we haven't had one of my favorite local bands, Exit Clov, here on the blog (short of just a show teaser a number of months back.) Hell, we been at this three years now and no proper Clov feature? Well, we're about to remedy that in a big way this week as the band is here, inside the TVD offices, ready to type away. All of this is in advance of – well, ...wait. I'll let them spill it. It's [...]

After much anticipation, our Exit Clov buds have finally released their newest album, Memento Mori for online retail. Well, this was totally unexpected. Two D.C. bands with close ties to Knox Road, Exit Clov and Jukebox the Ghost , have teamed up with various members of each to form a side-project, Drunken Sufis . Drunken Sufis display a political conspiracy-themed punk music so entirely different than the melodic pop rock of both Exit Clov and Jukebox the Ghost - with songs that range from, if I may steal a line from their press release, "30-second spaz-prog bursts ("Jeff Gannon Reprise"), to angular dance punk ("I Know Where AIDS Comes From"), to dual-guitar freakouts ("Neo-Con [...]

Knox Road's Lee drew my attention today to Exit Clov 's online pledge drive to raise money for victims of Taiwan's Typhoon Morakot . Money is tight with everyone these days, certainly around my place as well, but I'm digging deep to donate a few bucks to the cause. Consider it a deposit in your karma bank. Susan and i made a little lo-fi, home music video tonight to help raise money for the victims of Taiwan's Typhoon Morakot. It's a performance of a Taiwanese song called "Ai-Biahnh Jia-eh Eianh." [...]

What do you get when you combine the melodic pop nature of D.C. based indie outfits Jukebox the Ghost and Exit Clov? But of course an "angular," "abrasive," "rude," and "loud" new punk side-project called Drunken Sufis . It certainly sounds hard to believe, but a "political conspiracy-themed" punk band, reminiscent of the Minutemen, Fugazi, the Dismemberment Plan, Rage Against the Machine, and early XTC is what the crazy kids of the two outfits are involved these days. In fact, things are going so well that they've already got a debut full-length to their name, a 11-track [...]
The ladies of Exit Clov (Emily and Susan Hsu) took to the airwaves and decided to personally do something to help raise money for the victims of Taiwan's Typhoon Morakot, by making a short home music video. Do what you can to help (per their description below). Plus, you get an up close and personal look at a couple of the driving forces behind one of our favorite bands. If you didn't know that, you're not an avid enough reader! (Unless you've found us recently. Then all is cool.) The video, their words, upcoming shows, and an EC [...]
