Dyed Soundorom began life in the 90’s as a lowly Parisian promoter, striking a deep affinity for the apparently legendary Batofar After Parties. Hard for me to comment on their legend status as I was busy trying to be a highly educated student in the late 90’s, however its fairly clear in retrospect that Soundorom was well schooled in the virtues of deep grooving house, if the written word is anything to go by. Since those formative years Soundorom has taken that template and applied it to his own music, with his debut 2008 record ‘Question’ quickly setting a [...]

Back in 2009, when the Serbian Exit Festival was celebrating its 10th year, Pete Tong put together one of the most legendary Essential Mixes ever recorded. This 120 minute segment features back-to-back sets from techno kingpins Riche Hawtin & Dubfire , and Magda & Loco Dice, respectively. The party takes place in a medieval castle and is dubbed by Pete Tong as "one of the best DJ stages in the world at one of the best festivals in the world." These four acts are undeniably masters of their craft, and when placed side-by-side create an [...]

We've had some visitors at TK HQ. The very cute and mischievous Juno and Louie. They are big fans of the blog and have selected a set for you today from one of their favourite dj's Maceo Plex . Recorded live at Exit festival it's fun, cheeky and very bouncy - just like Juno and Louie!
“We just came back to switch our amps off”. Bernard Sumner, ubiquitous leader of New Order says as he comes back into sight against a backdrop of cheers and applause. The behemothic stage is set against the stunning scenery of the Petrovaradin Fortress. The sun has recently disappeared behind the river Danube, taking the temperature down to a modest 30 degrees, and a cool 30,000 people are rightly unfooled by his assertion as he launches into an emphatic Joy Division encore of 'Transmission' and 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'. Serbia isn’t exactly [...]

EXIT Festival is not like your average British Festival. For starters, it's not in Britain at all. Held in the second largest city in Serbia, Novi Sad, it possess a very unique and intriguing history, born out of a movement in 2000 against Slobodan Milosevic's brutal regime; Exit out of Serbia essentially. See our fascinating interview with the festival co-founder Bojan Boskovic for a more in-depth look. From that original 100 day-long festival, it has slowly evolved and grown into one of Europe's most notorious festivals in terms of size, atmosphere and stupendously picturesque [...]
While we couldn't make it to this year's edition of the mythical Exit festival, we're getting over our disappointment the only way we know possible - by listening to the live sets. If you're like us and your idea of a good time is raving to Luciano's tech house beats in an 18th century fortress, than Exit is the place for you. (For a first-hand perspective on what it's really like, check out our review from last year ). This two-hour mix find Mr. Vagabundos in an eclectic mood. We get his typical Latin effusiveness melded with some [...]

Big thanks to the guys at EXIT for booking us in too DJ their legendary festival, something we never dreamed of doing when we put on our first party back in 2007.

Benoit & Sergio produce house, however unlike many house artists their musical heritage was not born out of a desire to be a DJ, and then writing tracks accordingly. Collectively they cite the The Talking Heads, Simon & Garfunkel, Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana among others as key artists that got them into music. Whilst not particularly underground and certainly not electronic, it is perhaps this varied and song based outlook that has elevated their music beyond short-term disposability. Since their 2009 debut ‘What I’ve Lost’ their music has been a juxtaposition of ideas, evoking a sense of inner turmoil [...]

Thursday 12th July sees the opening day of EXIT Festival and will run for four days until Sunday; though paltry in comparison to the first ever festival held 13 years ago, which lasted for 100 days. This is where EXIT comes into it's own, in that it possesses a rich and unique history; a festival born out of a protest against the brutal reign of Slobodan Milošević. Since then the festival, held in the abandoned Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad, has grown and evolved considerably and attracts an eclectic range of [...]
EXIT Festival is the original Eastern Bloc festival, first opening its doors in 1999 as a student protest to the Milosevic regime, since then Serbia and its surrounding nations have achieved full independence from former Yugoslavia and EXIT Festival has gone on to become one of the most revered and emulated European Festivals, with people attending from over 60 different nations. Located within a Petrovaradin Fortress and renowned for its affordability, Balkan sunshine and huge line ups it is without doubt one of those 'Essential Festivals' alongside the likes of Glastonbury, Coachella, and Roskilde that has to be [...]

Taking place from Thursday 12th – Sunday 15th July, in the magical Petrovaradin Fortress overlooking the river Danube, EXIT continues to deliver the most adventurous and value for money festival experience, with a diverse and cutting edge line up, cheap food and drink onsite and the best campsite entertainment whilst bathing in the hot Balkan sunshine. With over 600 artists , peforming on 20 stages connected by cobbled streets, ramparts and tunnels - a walk through the mystical fortress is like a trip through a magical wonderland. [...]
Serbia's most illustrious music festival is less than two months away. It takes place on a huge fortress on the Danube, and began life as a student protest against Milosevic's regime, I have just learnt. Amazing, amazing, amazing. In terms of 'bass music', as a dodgy definition of a genre (this site was named before all that thankfully), the festival's 'Happy Novi Sad' stage is all killer, apparently picked from just two of the scene's leading labels; it features Space Dimension Controller, Lone, Pariah, Teengirl Fantasy, [...]
