Captured Tracks wins again. The best little label on Earth is reissuing Medicine's Shot Forth Self Living , and one of my all-time favorite and most influential records, The Buried Life . You will never hear anyone making guitar sounds like Medicine did on these two records, ever. Think of it this way; if Kobe Bryant is My Bloody Valentine and Medicine is LeBron James who wins in a one-on-one half-court game? ( via )

Tom Waits' newest album, Bad As Me , feels like a nice change from boring ol' Rock & Roll. In fact, it's everything but! As one goes from track to track, there's soul, jazz, folk, some Spanish-sounding ballads, and more. Tom Waits has always been a versatile artist, and he sure shows it on his newest offering. Take the opening track, "Chicago." It feels like the studio engineer hit "record" just a few seconds after the band started playing, and you're a little late to the party. It's disconcerting, but (somehow) it's also pretty cool sounding. After a [...]
So I am kind of obsessed with this song right now. CANT is the solo project of Grizzly Bear's bassist Chris Taylor. A collection of chilled out electronic melodies that will have you contemplating love, life and painful heartbreak. I found that I connected with this album instantly. It is bluesy, emotional and experimental and I like it. Believe - CANT Dreams Come True 2011 ( Terrible Records )
New Delhi gypsy-jazz act Peter Cat Recording Co played the The Living Room Cafe, New Delhi on Friday, August 26. Despite oddities in the audience (a girl pulling up a stool and sitting right in front of the keyboardist), the band pulled off a good show with a complicated set up and a classic Bollywood film playing on the backdrop. The setlist included stuff off their debut album Sinema (review here ). We've got a few of photos from the gig below. Photos by [...]
Mumbai rock act The Pulp Society played the Blue Frog, Mumbai on Tuesday, August 9. Despite the elaborately adorned stage and inclusion of additional vocalists and new instruments to the band's sound, the gig was pretty similar to a previous outing we attended. While frontman Imaad Shah pulled off a characteristically efficient stage act, the music failed to impress. Singers Saba Azad and Rachel Varghese featured on backing vocals for the second half of the set. The band's experiments involved the inclusion of a violin, bongo, saxophone and trumpet in addition to [...]
Gig Preview: PINKNOISE @ Hard Rock Cafe, Mumbai
Kolkata experimental rock act PINKNOISE comes back to Mumbai to play at Hard Rock Cafe on Thursday, Feb 9 . We caught up with frontlady Jayashree Singh who filled us in on what the audience can expect from Thursday night's set. PINKNOISE's latest EP, called The Dance Of The Diaspora , will be the main focus of the performance. "The EP has never been performed in Mumbai," explains Singh, "so that will be something new for the audiences. Since Hard Rock requires a band to play for an hour and 45 minutes, we will also be playing [...]
Hoje Há "Underground Uprising" (Kraak DJ-Set) no Mexe Café + [TOP TRACKS 40-2011] 2. In Your Nature (Zola Jesus)

[TOP TRACKS 40-2011] 40. You're Lionel Richie (Mogwai)
Sim, 40. Este ano desvalorizei ligeiramente a
Panda Bear's "You Can Count On Me [Acapella]"
Noah Lennox, otherwise known as Panda Bear from the much-loved experimental rock group, Animal Collective, kept busy this past year, even outside of his band. He released a great album, Tomboy, and is now releasing a 4-disc deluxe copy of it with a shitton of demos and what not... this is a demo for one of my favorites from the album, "You Can Count On Me," done acapella style. Check it out homes

EYE- Center of the Sun
Center of the Sun by EYE Some long, winding psych and prog rock tunes from the new EYE album, Center of the Sun . While these guys don't exactly put a new face on this kind of stuff, they perform it with a lotta passion and attention to detail. Plus, a lotta the instrumentation is pretty friggin' sinister. Stream it above, download it on Bandcamp , and stay awesome.
Music Review: Mr. Gnome - Madness In Miniature
There's nothing small about this album.
