Wolf Parade’s new video (click image above) is from Yulia, a track off their Expo 86 [SubPop 2010] LP. Hey all, especially you Portlanders, Check out director notes below for the new Wolf Parade clip above: I wanted to create a kind of formal and slightly nostalgic vibe. At the same time, I wanted it to feel untethered to an exact era — not specifically in the past. I shot in Portland Oregon and a little in Romania and I was really inspired by Russian cinema and Communist propaganda posters. [...]
Wolf Parade - No One Saves The Day [ Live] When I saw Wolf Parade at the Showbox in Seattle on Monday, I killed some time before the show started by smoking a cig out front of the venue. My addiction's been acting up lately. Most of the members of Wolf Parade did the same. At one point a scalper approached guitarist Dan Boeckner and tried to sell him a vastly overpriced ticket. Boeckner declined, mentioned he was in the band, and they seemed to joke about it for a bit. I'm [...]
MP3: Wolf Parade - Cloud Shadow on the Mountain Not here, unfortunately. But while we await it, here's a track from another Sub Pop band. The new Wolf Parade record is more rockin' than previous efforts, which is always a plus when a band decides to get lively—here's the lead track. The coolest part is that the fella second from right looks like a young John Candy. NOW GO WATCH CANADIAN BACON .
I find it peculiar that Wolf Parade is continually referred to as a "super group". Sure, each member has featured prominently in one or another successful band-Spencer Krug in Sunset Rubdown/Swan Lake/Frog Eyes, Dan Boeckner in Handsome Furs, or Dante DeCaro in Hot Hot Heat. (Drummer Arlen Thompsen worked with Arcade Fire early on, but he was never a full-fledged member.) Funny thing is, though, that Wolf Parade by my clock actually gained relevance, and high-profile success, before any of those bands. Just a peeve I hold as a pet, but I would recommend we all [...]
There are way too many amazing bands coming to the Bay Area for my wallet to handle. One of them being Wolf Parade. Listening to their new album, Expo 86 , is convincing me that I have to go to their Oakland show. Take a listen to “Ghost Pressure” and “What Did My Lover Say?” below. Both songs are off their new album. Wolf Parade - Ghost Pressure Wolf Parade - What Did My Lover Say? (It Had To Go This Way) [...]
Wolf Parade/ Expo 86/ Released 6/29/10 Our Rating: When asked about Expo 86 , keyboardist and lead vocalist Spencer Krug stated that the main criteria for the songs was “whether or not [he] would dance to them.” I’m not sure anything but some sort of head-banging-seizure combo would be an appropriate accompaniment to this lively and enthusiastic album, but that seems to be exactly what the band had in mind for their third album. Wolf Parade’s energy certainly hasn’t lessened since the 2008 release of At [...]
The main distinguishing factor between Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown, one of Spencer Krug's many other projects, is the song construction and destination. Generally, while Sunset Rubdown prefers long-winded, ever-changing sounds and structures within the same song, Wolf Parade is its more straightforward brother. They both had some of the same qualities — the crazy-man vocals, the abundance of synthesizers, and so on and so forth — but Wolf Parade was always quicker and easier to immediately digest. That's not to say the band has remained static. Over the course of three full-length albums, now, the [...]
Wolf Parade get Lost in Space
Take a trip to the stars with the cosmonauts of Wolf Parade in their video for "Yulia". Whoooooooooooosh. The Soviet settings for the video are nicely handled in this tale of a doomed cosmonautic romance. Doomed due to flashing red lights of death of course, rather than the impossibility of love behind the iron curtain. [...]

Who’s Gonna Steam Up All Your Dancehalls?*
Why, Wolf Parade , of course. Is the downtown Showbox a true dancehall? No, probably not, but the Montreal quartet was in a surprisingly nightclubbin' mood Monday night in Seattle as they continued their ticker tape parade for Expo 86 . Arlen Thompsen, drummer, and Dante DeCaro, bassist, completely tipped the scales during the band's second song "What Did My Lover Say (It Always Had To Go This Way)", locking LOUDLY in step like rhythm soldiers on a dancefloor march. I'm not sure I ever appreciated the consistent bass thump on many [...]

Long Play: Expo 86
