Tweet Buy the album from Amazon - Vinyl | MP3 | CD Dan Boeckner has grown increasingly political in his outings with Handsome Furs , the dance-rock duo he formed with his wife after achieving success with Wolf Parade . While the group's first album, "Plague Park", was a series of sparsely-arranged tales of loss and restlessness, they expanded their scope (both thematically and musically) to the [...]
I showed up a couple of years late to the Handsome Furs party, discovering them somehow back in 2009 around the time that their second album "Face Control" was being released, and for me, as a first time listener, I had it repeating on a daily basis for weeks. Consisting of Dan Boeckner from Wolf Parade and Atlas Strategic, and his short-story-writing wife, Alexei Perry, the Canadian duo made one of the best albums of 2009; A highly-charged, soul-thumping, Electronic, Spasm-Rock "happening", the spikes and jolts struck every jiggly limb on my body and [...]

So this will be another short but sweet post. Remember. Not everything in life is about quantity, but about quality. Some of my favorite writings in the year and a half helping George here have been the shorter posts. My personal favorite? When I wrote about the track "Bicycle Boy" by Rubicks . Well, this one is along the same lines. Dan Boeckner, of Wolf Parade fame, started his own side project a few years ago with his wife Alexei Perry by the name of the Handsome Furs . At first, I must [...]
Today's track is another gem from the Montreal indie/electronic-rock husband/wife duo of Dan Boeckner and Alexei Perry , otherwise known as Handsome Furs . Radio Kaliningrad can be found as the closing track to the band's sophomore full-length album Face Control , released via Sub Pop Records in March of 2009. Music fans will likely recognize Dan Boeckner as one-half of the two-headed monster known as Wolf Parade , or digging even deeper, as the front man of the now defunct British Columbia indie-rock act Atlas Strategic . For [...]

Face Control churns within the tensions between answer and question, avoiding reassuring resolution in favor of Dan Boeckner's restless guitars and frayed vocals menacingly pacing around Alexei Perry's hollow, post-postindustrial synthesizers. This sophomore effort should put to rest the notion that Handsome Furs are a mere Wolf Parade side project. Reminds us of: Springsteen at his most urgent | government housing | and ok, yes, Wolf Parade . . . but only a little Handsome Furs: ( Official / MySpace ) [...]
Handsome Furs - Face Control My Thoughts: Love More (<3)+ I don't know how I've been keeping myself from reviewing this album, because I've been rocking it for a good 3 months now it seems. Handsome Fur's first album was all fine and good, but I have a feeling the only reason I really liked it was because of Dan Boeckner's involvement in this band and Wolf Parade. This album, from start to freakin finish is one of [...]
The moment that best encapsulates the unique appeal of this band came early in the set. Perry had confessed to a certain trepidation about performing in Los Angeles due to the city's rumored "seen-it-all" attitude. After one of the songs ended, she asked, "Why am I so scared?" Boeckner walked over, pulled her head to his...they touched faces, perhaps a word or two was whispered, but immediately they returned to the show, both of them seemingly rejuvenated by this brief contact.

The highly anticipated announcement of the long-list for the Polaris Prize was made today, and my prediction regarding Chad VanGaalen 's Soft Airplane turned out to be correct. This is by no means a reflection on my skills as a music blogger, the album is just that damn good. Anyways, in honor of the announcement, I decided to post a song from another album that was long-listed today. I'm confused comes to us from the indie-rock duo Handsome Furs and their their second full-length album Face Control , [...]
Handsome Furs are husband-and-wife team Dan Boeckner (also in Wolf Parade ) and Alexei Perry and their new album Face Control blends classic rock riffs with a techno beat. They have been to many places you have never heard of. Alexei takes time out from a day at the beach to do this interview. This interview by Tom Child.

They really killed it Friday night, Handsome Furs . The electro-power-rock couple put on a scintillating set at Neumos that had me and everyone else wishing for more. I'll get my one complaint out of the way: why the truncated set, Dan Boeckner and Alexei Perry? The duo played 10 songs, including two encore cuts, and left out notable Face Control tracks "Thy Will Be Done" (which would've amped the joint) and "Officer of Hearts", not to mention Plague Park 's most popular song, "What We Had". Boeckner and his wife, for their part, [...]

Now, it's been a little while and some of you newcomers or maybe TSURURADIO's "fair-weather readers" may not be awares of what makes a vinyl rip, "members only", so lemme explain... No, [...]

Reminds me of a mix of Hot Chip and Depeche Mode, which by the way, kicks. From Chicago, Hey Champ produces some very wicked electronic pop with melodies that are cool and beats that are dance floor friendly. They are currently signed to Lupe Fiasco's label, "FNF" and are currently touring - a full length will be released later this year. Hey Champ - Face Control Hey Champ - Cold Dust Girl Video:

I have to admit that my blogging has been a bit lazy of late but that does not mean that my appetite for new music has been subdued. Currently here are some quality releases that I would whole heartedly recommend in this almost 5 months into 2009. NOTE: I will post the mp3's when I can get my domain and web hosting updated. The Antlers - Hospice [...]

The world of the husband/wife entertainment double act is a notoriously odd one, both professionally and personally (just ask Paul Daniels' publicist. Or any of Abba). However, when done right, the clash of male and female sensibilities and styles along with the possible sexual frisson (or friction) provoked from working alongside a spouse can work wonderfully (Gainsbourg and Birkin, anyone?). Whether this crossed the mind of Wolf Parade second-hand man Dan Boeckner on deciding to team up with writer wife Alexei Perry in order to create beautiful music remains to be seen. 2007's Plague Park [...]
Husband and wife duo Alexei Perry and Don Boeckner make up Handsome Furs, who have been in existence since 2006,so they are relatively new on the indie music scene. The title of this album comes from a short story written by Perry at the time of the band's inception. It refers to a controlling culture in Moscow clubs, namely,if [...]
by kevin diamond (pics by nick zinner, ilovemetric.com, kirstiecat, & lure design) I guess calling these bands mainstream isn't quite right, but since SXSW is picking up the slack this week showcasing the up and coming talents (that is SXSW's job, right?) I thought I'd highlight some albums about to drop by some proven favorites. Enjoy. Artist: [...]

If Plague Park is a hangover, Face Control is the night before. Handsome Furs, the husband/wife duo of handsome people have picked up the pace on the followup to their 2007 album, which sounded half-alive and too sparse. Face Control has more pep, as if the band took more time in the studio to get their drum machine on the right settings, and then changed the bpm. The first single, "I'm Confused," begins like a hive of bees, and then gets all new wavy with a kick of hyper distorted [...]

New Wax Besides having album art that makes me miss my late pet doberman Blue, who was always smiling even when he somehow managed to get a fishing hook lodged in his testicle (true story), the new album from husband/wife duo Dan Boeckner and Alexei Perry, aka Handsome Furs, makes me want to shake my half-Asian ass. And I'm not the dancing type. The married couple with a pension for raunchy publicity photos released their debut album Plague Park in 2007, and while it had its moments, it [...]
