Московская группа со смелым названием Fake Empire играет рок-музыку нью-йоркской во ны и представляет на Big Echo сингл «Visitors».

In a huge oversight by the Ohio University Students for Romney who created a pro-Mitt Romney video that features The National 's "Fake Empire," now taken off of Youtube, the Cincinnati, Ohio band is currently outraged. As huge Barack Obama supporters who have performed at rallies and benefits, as well as sold shirts for Obama's campaign, The National is livid over the fact that "Fake Empire" - the same song used in a 2008 Obama ad - was used without the band's permission. In response to the Youtube video, Matt Berninger of The National posted the following comment: [...]

When asked if I have a favourite band, I am often reluctant to reply with a straight ‘yes’. Having such a passion for music, I naturally enjoy quite a bit of it, and selecting just one is quite tough. Depending on my mood, the top 5 might alter, but there is one band that will always secure itself in the top three: The National. My first exposure to The National was Christmas at my friend’s. Her family has always had great taste, and definitely did not play your typical seasonal tunes. Among the strange and wonderful tracks that hummed its [...]
Beirut helping The National perform Fake Empire might be the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in today. And I just saw a turtle rescue another turtle off of its back .

5 Songs is a weekly series where we point out the strange, the grand, and the unique connections between our favorite songs. Let’s get weird. Words by Chris There’s a fine line between bashing you over the head and cradling your imagination. There’s also a blend of seething irony that can make or break a whole vision. I’m thinking of the Obama Administration using “Fake Empire” by The National as a song for [...]
Beirut man Zach Condon joined The National at the Paléo Festival in Switzerland last week. Paléo Festival has been running since 1997, taking place near Lake Geneva. This year saw performances from Jack Johnson, Pulled Apart By Horses, Bloody Beetroots, The Chemical Brothers, Portishead, Beirut, The Strokes, PJ Harvey, The Dø, Robert Plant & The Band of Joy, Metronomy and Mika, who was drafted in last minute to replace Amy Winehouse. Condon added vocals to The National's 'Fake Empire' in a set that stretched backed to Sad Songs For [...]
Earlier this month, The National headlined the Open Air St Gallen Music Festival in Switzerland. During their set the band invited Zach Condon of Beirut onstage for a version of " Fake Empire ". Check out the performance above.

Winter is in full swing nationwide, with all but one state coated in a layer of snow over the past two weeks, and temperatures below freezing here in the nation's capital. While I, for one, can't wait for Spring's warm sunlight, it's still best to make the most with what you're given, so with that we give you the All Things Go North Woods Mixtape. Every year, my family and I would go to my grandmother's cabin in the north woods of Minnesota on beautiful West Bearskin Lake. No running water, outhouse in the back, and a mere 20 feet [...]

A magical performance in a magical setting... Ryman Auditorium - Nashville Tennessee - Tennessee - United States - Nashville Metro
The music video is not dead. Gone are the days of uber creative, uber expensive extravaganzas like "Thriller", but this does not mean the music video has died. The explosion in popularity of video sites such as YouTube , Daily Motion , Vimeo , and the emergence of web video destinations like Pitchfork.tv have given a new home to an art form currently exiled from television. As with much of music today, the truly innovative and creative work comes not from the mainstream, but from the fringes and the underground. Here [...]

The iTunes Genius feature is actually really great for making playlists - even with some obscure tracks such as little known remixes or rarities; however, it still has quite a ways to go in regards to its catalog of known or recognized artists/songs. I've decided to post a bunch of tracks that iTunes compiled after I turned the Genius feature on... it's great for finding stuff you haven't heard (depending on the size of your library) or haven't listened to in a while. It's also key for just throwing on some music for a short period [...]

I have a confession to make that will startle most blog readers from last year. For pretty much the first few months after it landed, I hated Boxer by The National. It didn't seem as good as the hype made out; I didn't see it growing on me, in fact I pretty much ignored it. Thank God, then, for shuffle; one day coasting along the underground on my way to work, 'Fake Empire' gently drifted into my headphones, shocking me out of my blatant ignorance. Now, of course, I love [...]

It's been a few days now since Barack Obama became President Elect of the USA and I couldn't be happier. It's beginning to sink in and it'll be interesting to see how thinks play out over the next four years. I noticed during the broadcast of Obama's rally at Grant Park in Chicago the night of the election, after the national anthem was sung, they showed an Obama promotional video on a video screen set to The National 's "Fake Empire". By and large it was only the instrumental portion of the song playing and there's no [...]

Although, as many of you know, last night was intended to be a fundraiser for Barack Obama at the Water Tower with entertainment to be provided by Jim James on a solo acoustic set. The silver lining of the cancelation, if there is one, is that last night we got to catch The National playing "Vote Early/Rock Late", a benefit concert for Barack Obama at Fountain Square in their hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. On hand were some of the familiar faces we've seen at some of the shows in the past, including Matt's mother, tons of other family of [...]
In this season's political climate, why WOULDN'T you show your support for the presidential candidate of your choice. The National have quietly voiced their allegiance with a new Barack Obama/Mr. November T-Shirt, available on their website. Maybe the song being referenced is not the most politically correct in The National's catalog, but it does have that certain "je ne sais quoi" to it. "I WON'T fuck us over, I'm MR. NOVEMBER! I'm MR. NOVEMBER!!" Proceeds go directly to the campaign so purchase your [...]

I worry sometimes when I hear about solo projects from members of my more beloved bands. I don't want my love of the band's dynamic tainted by some shit-tastic 80s rock project, or the need to just expunge their yearning for an ambient electronic record. Nope, not one bit. I just want my bands to stick together like delicious, vinegary sushi rice. Thus, I was decidedly wary about Lackthereof, the solo project from Menomena's Danny Seim. Menomena is a tightly knitted group, all multiple lead singers, interweaving harmonies, and round-robin instrument playing and I couldn't imagine just one of them [...]
