Dazzle Ships - "Paradise" MP3/download It's shocking to me that post-punk hasn't lost its appeal. It's the one motif that has stood sturdy as a tubby oak while other persuasions appear out of thin air like apparitions and dissipate like ... Continue reading

I've only begun to process Unking , the new album from Mothers of Gut that I just received from Family Time Records . This is dense music, inspired by the immediacy of intense loss after the death of group mastermind Aaron Freeman's father. The album is a narrative, inspired by Ursula K Le Guin's Birthday of the World , about a man who learns his death is imminent and "flees to obscurity, leaving all who looked to him to fend for themselves." With the help of bandmate Kristina Collantes, Freeman builds to catharsis slowly over 45 [...]

Below are two insanely fuzzy and psychedelic jams from Southern California's Mothers Of Gut . The band started back in 2007 by Aaron Freeman who released his debut LP Inanimate Sermon as a four piece in 2010. This year he brings the raw emotion of loss to his new album Unking, released by Family Time Records . The album is in remembrance and dedicated to the memory of Freeman's father. Wizard Tree [...]

After several cassette, CD-R and split projects released within such a short amount of time, Kevin Greenspon finally gets the vinyl treatment for his full length LP titled Common Objects. I've been a fan of Kevin since early this year and I have been enjoying what he brings with each new release. Whether one wants to define him as experimental, pop or droned either way his music encompasses all of the above with a passion like no other. Pick up the album here [...]

Deep Sht - Mythmaker Dollchimes - Lapidary Throats Norse Horse - Shoot the Kids So psyched on this new 12" compilation assembled by our Californian chum Sam at Family Time Records . It feels like we've featured nearly every band on the roster, and for good reason; the dark sloppiness and teen hauntologies bottled up in bands like Blessure Grave, Trudgers and Strange Frames are totally our thing here at RQ, not forgetting Ancient Crux's slacker anthems or the ambient wave [...]

ANCIENT CRUX is primarily 19 year old Travis Von Sydow (also of LA punks Rapid Youth ), he writes, records all the Ancient Crux stuff himself, but plays live with a couple of other dudes. We first stumbled across them on the No Pain In Pop blog a few months ago. We instantly fell in love with the lo-fi Roy Orbison pop of 'In Teen Dreams', sounding like it should've soundtracked Jason Priestly's mercurial (if tragically short lived) turn as Buzz Gunderson in 'Teen Angel' . So, [...]
