This year was much more of a songs year for us... probably having more to do with our listening habits than any lack of noteworthy albums (there are plenty) or any ominous "death of the album" that's been prophesied for at least a half decade now. When a band's soundcloud suddenly vanishes from the 'net, and old videos removed from YouTube, something's clearly afoot. That something, in this case, turned out for the moment to be Fantasy Island 's debut EP, FI . Some great stuff this month. Astronauts, Etc. "You Can Yell" and Macklemore x Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop" were definitely my two favorites. That doesn't mean the others weren't good...these two were just above and beyond. If you haven't heard either, you didn't have a good month. After reading about these dudes on I Guess I'm Floating and listening to them several times...I have to second that blogger's humble opine. I can't say I've been hearing anything else quite like Fantasy Island. Take this track "Evergreen" for example. It has so many shifts and movements within it this thing is practically an onion. You can just keep peeling and peeling. The intro is melodic and stately, but that is quickly washed away in a cascade of keys that reminds me of a jaunt through a dark forest...an evergreen wood, maybe? The song continues to [...]

We’re big fans of LA duo Fantasy Island ( listen to the mix they put together for us last year ) - and their latest track ‘Alone’ only strengthens our affections tenfold.
Fantasy Island , the awesome new band we told you about back in December , have released a new funky jam entitled, “Alone”. The song certainly has a confident bop, but it is as chill as can be. It’s like a perfect cross between the bygone Motown era and the chillwave era of now. Also, lovely verses that have the vocals matching the riff spot on. Really solid song right here.
Word is that "Alone" will be released later this year, so enjoy the stream until then.
