"July" by Youth Lagoon , from the debut album The Year of Hibernation released via Fat Possum Records September 27th. I've been seeing this album making a lot of the top ten lists of last year (including mine), well deserved. Plus, a great video companion here in the Tyler T Williams video for "July". Youth Lagoon - July from Tyler T Williams on Vimeo .

I rather like Purity Ring. They tick an awful lot of my boxes: dreamy, hip-hop influenced, female vocal pop. What more could a modern metrosexual ask for? They released the Ungirthed 73 around this time last year to much acclaim and followed it up in October with a split 73 (shared with Braids, on Fat Possum) that feature their song Belispeak. It's choppy and ever so slightly sinister while maintaining enough of a pop direction to make it very ear friendly. Megan James' vocals on all of their songs, although very produced, have an innocent quality to them. They're a [...]

Denver-based indie-pop outfit Tennis are scheduled to release their sophomore album, Young & Old , via Fat Possum on February 13. As time creeps closer to the release of the Cape Dory follow-up, Tennis finishes off 2011 with a soft bang with the recent release of their own cover of Broadcast 's "Tears in the Typing Pool," a cut from the band's 2005 Tender Buttons release. Tennis frontman Patrick Riley told NME : "Broadcast have been a [...]

Here is resounding evidence that Trevor Powers has a flawless live voice, and sound's exactly like the studio recording. Excellent editing by Charles Bergquist and Sezio. I wasn't entirely sure how to frame this post: Crocodiles have been around since at least 2008, with two LPs out on Fat Possum Records and a handful of EPs to boot, and they're pretty well-liked within particular circles, but they're not exactly huge, and they've never been posted on Earmilk before. Although this post is partially a show review, I thought it might be best to frame it as a friendly introduction, rather than coming out of left field with a review of an obscure concert by a band we've never brought up before. [...]

A phantasmagorical fan-made video for the opening track on Youth Lagoon's début album The Year Of Hibernation , made by Chambers vs Dolph . Check out the video below, and Youth Lagoon's American tour dates throughout November. The footage comes courtesy of the French 1973 animation La Planète Sauvage , which details a futuristic story that takes place on a far off planet where giants rule, and oppressed humanoids rebel against the machine-like leaders. 22-year-old student Trevor Powers is my favourite musician and The Year Of Hibernation [...]
![[Listen] – New Song By Tyler Ramsey – "The Nightbird"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3745493_lg.jpg)
Tweet Band Of Horses guitarist Tyler Ramsey releases what could very well be his best song yet with "The Nightbird" . The Lyrics are haunting with the heaviness of life and coming to grips with those things that weigh us down coupled with the determination of releasing them. Sure as a metaphor anyone could listen to "The Nightbird" and place their own meanings, their own motivations, into the song and make it out about anything, that's the Achilles [...]

Tweet It's not much of a secret that Youth Lagoon 's Trevor Powers is on the verge of being the most relevant aspect of indie music to come along this year. His debut album " The Year Of Hibernation "" comes out on the 27th and I'm nearly as excited about picking it up as I was for " Tomboy " so that should speak for the level I put him on. The best thing Powers has done, outside of locking himself in [...]

"During his summer break from Idaho's Boise State University, 22-year-old Trevor Powers decided to change his major from English Literature... to 21st Century Indie Rock Star. And so far he's passing with high marks. After posting his first song as Dream Lagoon in May, Powers earned widespread industry buzz, signed a two-album deal with Fat Possum, and recorded his debut full-length, The Year of Hibernation. Listen to the record exclusively here, a week before its September 27 release ." You can also stream an mp3 of the delicate bonus track 'Bobby' below, which only appears [...]

Yuck, with Porcelain Raft / Brillobox / 09.28.2011 / 9:30 / $12 Words by Brendan Listen to a Yuck song and you'll no doubt hear strains of "classic" 90s indie rock (shit, we're getting old): the slacker cool of Pavement , the grungy melodies of Dinosaur Jr. , the tunefulness and versatility of Yo La Tengo . It's just crazy to think that this group of three guys and two gals from London are so young and so perfectly able to filter [...]

Youth Lagoon has a new video for the sublime track "Montana", off his upcoming debut LP The Year Of Hibernation . continue reading >>

Following yesterday's Wintercoats , here's another video blurring the distinctions of what a music video should be. May I suggest indulging in a pair of your fanciest headphones for a pretty overpowering experience. Youth Lagoon - Montana. From the début album The Year of Hibernation released via Fat Possum Records on September 27th. Director, Cinematographer, Editor : Tyler T Williams AD & Editor : Ron Torres [...]
In a world of Li-Fi home made videos and dubiously copyrighted video collages, the DIY aesthetic of most music videos created currently are a breathe of fresh air, yet lack a certain emotional pull. The work of Tyler T Williams has never had that problem, he makes work that has the emotional scope of a high budget picture, but in reality it was created by a group of kids all with the same common vision. They often work for free, and they work with a fuck load of passion. Perhaps even two fuck loads. [...]
![[Listen/Download] – Youth Lagoon – "Cannon"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3707125_lg.jpg)
Tweet The concept of one guy doing an entire album himself, recording it in his bedroom and playing every instrument, is a far cry from being new or groundbreaking, still I'm blown away by Trevor Powers and his ability to shape his songs so dynamically. Although Powers may not care to impress anyone, "Cannons" is fully charged with the desire to prove himself. As this song develops there's a definite presence that indicates how much he had to hold himself back with the instrumentation. [...]
All I needed to hear were the first 20 seconds of Gross Magic's latest single "Sweetest Touch" to know that I absolutely love this band. Their 90's infused lo-fi sound is an instant call-back to the times when power chords were a-plenty and Pete & Pete was the best show on television (still one [...]
![[Listen/Download] – El-P – "Drones Over BKLYN"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3675838_lg.jpg)
Tweet El-P recently signed with Fat Possum Records which is good for us because now it's getting him motivated to finally release a new (and long overdue) album. This is one of the very few songs he's put out since "I'll Sleep When You're Dead" and it proves without a doubt that he's still got the magic that was absolutely dominating back in 2007. He dropped it for Adult Swim who continue to have their hand in everything that is [...]
