Feist and Mastodon released a split 73 back on Record Store Day. Obviously combining both names, Feistodon did each one of each other's songs on the split. (One of the coolest RSD releases this year, my opinion.) Feist did a dark, mystical cover of "Black Tongue" , Mastodon's first single from 20112s The Hunter . Mastodon , which seem about as far away musically as it gets, did a cover of "A Commotion" [...]

As it turns out, Feist and Mastodon's new Record Store Day release goes well beyond the novelty of folk-pop-meets-metal, with both acts turning in solid proof today that this mutual appreciation society is both inspired and genuine. Leslie Feist's menacing take on "Black Tongue," in particular, offers a refreshing unhinged angle from the singer-songwriter while keeping the smoky, jazz-inflected tone of her voice we've grown to know and love intact. Meanwhile, Mastodon turn Metals cut "A Commotion" to 11, complete with the dedication to precision and adrenaline-fueled rhythm section you could expect from the genre. We're still 12 [...]
Record Store Day is tomorrow, April 21 and one of the highlights if you love Feist or Mastodon... seriously, is there overlap? Well, on From Go to Whoa, there is, listen to the new collaborative effort of The Mastodon/Feist coming your way tomorrow via a 7’’ titled Feistodon which offers Mastodon covering Feist’s Metals track “A Commotion” and Feist’s take on Mastodon’s “Black Tongue” from their 2011 album, The Hunter

Doubtless Record Store Day , as with any no; absolutely every institutionalised day of celebration, has its pros and cons. Its primary pro I would contend, what with black wax now rendered omnipresent, clamoured for and consequently a touch extortionate (another debate for another time further from Friday perhaps), stems from its capacity to re-inform and remind – or alternatively inform and educate – the glaringly obvious: that every vinyl is, as 88 Fingers Louie would put it, a "two-faced bastard". There's a wealth of possibility within the split 7" concept that's largely been neglected over the past little [...]
Listen to Feist and Mastodon 's split 73 single below, released for Record Store Day 2012 . If there were ever a collaboration you wouldn't see coming, this would definitely be one of them, almost two polar opposites of the musical world covering a song of each other's. Canadian Feist takes on Mastodon's "Black Tongue" in a more Mastodon fashion than Feisty, taken from last year's album "The Hunter" , whilst the metal guys from Atlanta, [...]
One of my favourite songs on Bon Iver's second album, 'Towers' sounded wonderful on Jools's live show from last night. Justin Vernon et al bring the show to Dublin's Grand Canal Theatre on Thursday. It's probably going to be majestic. Also last night, Feist played 'The Bad In Each Other' [Read more]
