Now ain't this jolz alert, even if I'll be a lil late for work cause of it. Earlier this year the MASTODON covered the FEIST 's mp3, METALS, for Record Store Day, and the she-singer took on their BLACK TONGUE number. The two tracks have morphed into a digital one, via the powers of above and within your laptop, allowing you to crossfade and manually flick between either version of the toon. The name of this new band ? The FEISTODON . Yep, [...]

by teepoo It's Record Store Day! Here are some great covers to enjoy while you're heading out.
Feistodon is out tomorrow but you can hear it now! The Feist / Mastodon split 73 features both artists covering one song from each other's most recent albums, with Feist putting a decidedly, more earthy feel on Mastodon 's "Black Tongue" from their The Hunter record , while Mastodon dials up the distortion on Feist 's "A Commotion" off her most recent Metals album . Give both records a spin below and see what happens when two contrasting artists cover each other songs in [...]

While some people get excited about St. Patrick's Day or Fat Tuesday, around these parts there is another "unofficial" holiday that, if you haven't already noticed, we like to geek out about and that's Record Store Day . The annual celebration of independent music stores , which is celebrating its fifth anniversary, features scores of exclusive releases specifically made to be put out this Saturday. While we detailed some of those yesterday , and we've got a list of our favorite RSD releases coming later today, the one that I've got my eyes on is [...]
Before I divulge into a formal, detailed, seemingly accurate account of the sounds experienced on the new BADBADNOTGOOD LP, I figured that because we're dealing with a fairly unconventional record from on of the artists who is changing the game of the genre in which they so oddly inhabit, I figured that I'd start off a critique unconventionally. Without further ado, a cautiously constructed, ready-for-home recipe for BADBADNOTGOOD : Begin with 2 cups of concentrated, fresh jazz piano. Try not too make it too skillfully played, but just enough to contribute [...]

Most of the time when an artist covers a song, they'll release it as a single, b-side, EP, live performance, or as a part of a compilation or covers album. On the rare occasion though, artists will include a cover in the tracklisting of one of their proper albums, which usually signifies that they've put more thought into the cover version or have given it their own unique interpretation. M. Ward is kind-of the apotheosis of this, including one or two covers on all his albums (including the just-released A Wasteland Companion ) but [...]

It's got to be good to be Glen Hansard these days. Over the last five-plus years, the Irish singer-songwriter starred in the critically acclaimed movie Once, won an Oscar for Best Original Song, toured relentlessly with The Swell Season, while concurrently being filmed for a documentary, and is now seeing his work on the big screen adapted into a Broadway musical. Hansard isn't slowing down either, as on June 19 he will release his solo debut Rhythm and Repose , via Anti- Records. Much like his Swell Season band mate Marketa Irglova's debut, Hansard's album was also inspired [...]

The Berlin producer reworks an old Feist track.

during a recent visit to Mexico town the FEIST treated her audience to a surprise cover of NOVEMBER RAIN . even if you ain't a fan of the GUNS 'N ROSES classic, the footage below still warrants a view as it includes a mid-way guest appearance by a SLASH look-a-like and the she-singer going a lil carazy and destroying a pinata. wotyougot
During a recent show in Mexico City, Feist took to the stage in support of her recently released album Metals . While on stage, Feist and her band performed a surprise cover of Guns N' Roses ' classic hit "November Rain." In the midst of the cover, a Slash look-a-like showed up during the song's memorable guitar solo, and all that before Feist absolutely destroys a piñata. Now that's what I call an awesome performance. You can check out all the piñata smashing action in the player above, via Consequence of Sound .

When you imagine a Feist concert, you probably think of cardigans, the subtle swaying of a lulled audience, and the sweet voice of Leslie gently bouncing around the room. When Feist hit Mexico City, things played out a little differently. The band went right in to the peak of "November Rain" while Leslie grabbed a big stick and whacked away at a piñata. There was even a Slash impersonator, who appeared out of the shadows to help out with the solo. 2012 is going to be a weird one. ( [...]
