Monday night's Polaris Music Prize Gala had a lot of people scratching their heads wondering who would take home the prize. For me, the outcome never seems like a sure thing, despite what a number of armchair critics were tweeting about when Feist took home the prize. There's still a fair bit of confusion about how this process works, and how the outcome is decided each September. I've not sat as a member of a Polaris grand jury, but I know enough from my Polaris experience that the [...]
Feist’ s new video for “Bittersweet Melodies” helps us erase the distance between our current state and our youth. Argentinean photograp her Irina Werling uses photos from the pasts and recreates them with the same people in their present tense. The result is captivating, and it makes the song feel even more emotional. Get Metals now . Feist - “Bittersweet Melodies”

For as awesome as Muppets: The Green Album proved to be, it was only the beginning of the musical onslaught for the Jason Segel, Amy Adams-starring reboot of The Muppets . As it turns out, the film's official soundtrack is just as bonkers, featuring a who's who of notable rockers like Andrew Bird and Paul Simon, reports Billboard . Plus, you know a soundtrack's great when Miss Piggy isn't even the best part. In addition to Bird and Simon's contributions, Leslie Feist dueted with Mickey Rooney - yes, that Mickey Rooney [...]

Here is this week's music singles chart for the week ending September 11 - 17. After being the charts for so many weeks. Bruce Peninsula has finally made it to #1. These tracks aren't tracks from the upcoming album. More like the single that came out during the spring/summer called Bruce Trail Fire Sale . I just love the song and the music video to Salesman which reminds me of BSS's Almost Crimes with a hint of that 1960s look. While new debuts from Coldplay (Love the new single), Florence + The Machine and [...]
I like to post mixes comprised of the songs that keep me company whenever I travel, however, the last few trips have gone mixless, sadly. So, this is a bit of a combination of a few different excursions, which I think flows nicely for an August day. Hope you like it and be sure to support the artists if you discover a new track you like. Beirut - “Santa Fe” Feist - “How Come You Never Go There” Cass Combs - “The Same Thing” [...]
by pelly At 6 PM last night I had no idea what I was doing with myself or the small mass of negativity resting in my chest. Thanks to some good counsel, an hour and a half later I was standing outside of Radio City buying a ticket for the Red Hot Dark Was the Night benefit concert and my sense of purpose had been renewed. Breaking down like an indie rock all star game, the night was speckled with fantasy collaborations featuring Dirty Projectors, Feist, David Byrne, My Brightest [...]
I've noticed something strange lately. Not many people know that Let It Die wasn't Feist's first album; I even made the mistake of calling The Reminder her sophomore album. So, let me educate you; she actually released one album before Let It Die ; Monarch , (Lay Down You Jeweled Head) in 1999. Despite Let It Die 's popularity, Monarch never caught on, and is now out of print. But still, Monarch is Feist's debut album, and it sounds that way. In it, Feist is still finding [...]
