IGen 20/20 Night Vision field test A sorta quick video demonstrating the capabilities of the IGen 20/20 night vision monocular by Night Owl. This scope differs from standard night vision devices in that it uses optics and video processing and video can be recorded from the unit via a standard video cable. This test was performed on a moonless night and the unit was not stabilized. The scope works quite well without the infrared illuminator which may be beneficial to Bigfoot research since the IR lights do emit a red glow that may be easily [...]

Apes & Horses are a 4-piece band out of Paris, France. Right now the band is somewhat of a mystery and a little bit undercover (See Picture Above). I did find a couple of videos online that had me gasping in excitement. The first video is for a song titled 'The Fields' and it was performed live in Paris while they were supporting WU LYF on tour. The song is a groovy french jam that shows the bands already strong stage presence. 'Miracles' is the other song that they have floating around online and it [...]

Happy Monday everyone! A couple of weeks ago, I came across what one might call a "YouTube Sensation" by the name of Pogo . His music absolutely blew me away, so, of course, the wheels began turning for the next Monday threesome. This week, we're bringing you a variety of minimal techno music, where the artists use their talents to create tracks of almost perfect beauty and simplicity. Over The Ice - The Field // Buy Back in 2007, when From [...]

Squelchy math-rock kings Battles have always had plenty of the European microhouse scene embedded in their DNA; "Atlas," after all, was their take on Michael Mayer's schaffel sound. The group is getting ready to launch a new series of 123 singles called Dross Glop , which will collect remixes of tracks from their 2011 album Gloss Drop . And appropriately enough, the first installment includes contributions from two Kompakt Records all-stars, the Field and Gui Borratto. Below, stream the Field's take on "Sweetie & Shag" and Boratto's reworking of "Wall Street." Read [...]

If you've seen the first three from this morning we started to pick up the pace, but it's time to mellow things out for a bit to let everyone's ears rest.

Dear Santa, Thank you for all the treasures that you hid across our Deep Labyrinth of Madness last year. We had a great time finding all of them, and conveying them to our wonderful readers. We do appreciate your commitment to this way of doing things in spite of the high casualty rate amongst the elven guards that accompany you, and your traditional loss of fingers at the Pit and the Pendulum replica room. We could tell that one was yours because of the golden spider ring in it, how come you left it there? Will you ever [...]
There was so much really great music that I heard this year, to the point that putting together these lists was quite difficult and time-consuming. But even so, there are still a lot more albums out there that were recommended to me by others that I simply never got the chance to hear, as well as some that I felt needed more listens for me to fully absorb them, so they sadly won't be showing up on here (Danny Brown, Julianna Barwick, The Weeknd, Fucked Up, PJ Harvey, Main Attrakionz, Tune-yards, Yuck…I could go on and on). I'll [...]

Another year, another astonishing array of releases to get you through January to December. But where last year had some very clear cut winners across the board (from the likes of Arcade Fire, Kanye West and LCD Soundsystem), this year has not appeared so obvious. But, better late than never, Hotcakes brings you an eclectic list carefully decided by our five writers. Enjoy! 30. Givers - In Light 29. Balam Acab - Wander / Wonder 28. The Black Keys - El Camino 27. Gui Boratti - III [...]

Electronic music is designed for use by DJ's. For this reason, electronic releases tend to be singles rather than full albums: for better or for worse. Full cohesive electronic albums are rare and special things. The format of an album supports so much more artistry and creative capacity than singles and EP's ever will. Yet electronic genres like House and Techno are so dominated by singles and EP's. I see a trend emerging; songs which have real lasting power come from brilliant full-length releases. For me, albums like Justice's Cross , Digitalism's Idealism and Daft Punk's [...]

With less than a week remaining in 2011, it's finally that time again for Bears and Bullets to unleash its 25 favorite songs of the year. As it was for the previous three years, there are certain rules that qualify a song for the list. 1.) The song must have been released during the calendar year. 2.) Even if the song was technically released during 2011, if it was leaked prior to January 1, 2011, then it also does not qualify for the list. Last year, Vampire Weekend , in a decision that [...]
