Field Report (Of DeYarmond Edison & Bon Iver fame) announces debut LP on Partisan Records

Field Report (Of DeYarmond Edison & Bon Iver fame) announces debut LP on Partisan Records Former member of DeYarmond Edison , which featured Bon Iver , Field Report has announced his debut studio LP on Partisan Records, which is set for release on May 27th in the UK. One of the cuts from the eponymously titled LP is 'I Am Not Waiting Anymore', which you can see the video for below. Field Report's real name is Chris Porterfield and he recently said the following to NPR about 'I Am Not Waiting Anymore': "It became almost a mantra for me. The song is [...]

Ripple Field Report - Soundgarden 2/16/13 at the Wiltern

Ripple Field Report - Soundgarden 2/16/13 at the Wiltern “Phenomenal”, concluded one of thousands who were exalted enough to enjoy the triumphant return of the once and hopefully future kings of grunge/alternative metal/hard rock/Seattle swagger or whatever else sort of label you want to try to hurl at Soundgarden and see if it sticks. Truer word… So one might have expected Chris Cornell and company to string together a series of (too?) familiar radio-friendly hits like “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman” to please the across-the-generations masses? Errrr, not exactly. Try the likes of “Blind Dogs”, [...]

Long May You Run, J. Tillman Revisited – Part IV

Long May You Run, J. Tillman Revisited – Part IV J. Tillman Portrait by Eric Saeter (included in the Fargo CD reprint) Part Four of our tribute to the album Long May You Run, J. Tillman - had enough yet? I hope not as we have a great frickin' post today. Something I have thought of a few times is the change from "J. Tillman" to "Father John Misty" - it isn't just the style of music but the persona. I mean FJM is larger than life, self aware and (mostly) tongue in cheek with his strong satire. You would never get [...]

Video: Field Report – I Am Not Waiting Anymore

Field Report-- I Am Not Waiting Anymore
It took Chris Pottersfield a bit longer to than his former DeYarmond Edison band mates, the much mythologized act that spawned both Bon Iver and Megafaun, to record on album on his own. Last fall under the moniker of Field Report , Pottersfield released his highly recommended self-titled debut , an album of hauntingly confessional folk songs that are reminiscent of Jackson Browne. Earlier this week the Milwaukee-based band released their first music video for the track I Am Not Waiting Anymore, the emotionally wrought clip features a "wrenching narrative of a formerly homeless man seeking healing [...]

Field Report put out one of HearYa's favorite albums of 2012 . We caught them at SXSW where they blew our hair back and Oz wrote a glowing review back in August. Now they have released their first music video and its a beauty. We have a HearYa session planned for March and we couldn't be any more excited. Tweet

Bloggy Goodness: Dave Grohl, Blues Traveler, Jakob Dylan & More on Marc Maron’s WTF with Marc Maron Podcast

Bloggy Goodness: Dave Grohl, Blues Traveler, Jakob Dylan & More on Marc Maron’s WTF with Marc Maron Podcast We're big fans of  Marc Maron's  fantastic podcast  WTF with Marc Maron  around these parts. The comedian turned talk show host, has built his reputation around his very personal narrative, self-deprecating and self-analyzing humor, that often times involves stories about his cats, love life and past struggles in the comedy business. Maron's podcasts typically feature interviews with comedians and actors, but over the last few weeks Marc has invited a number of musicians to stop by for some highly entertaining chats that we wanted to recommend. Marc's recent episodes with  Blues Traveler ,  Jakob Dylan  and  Adam Schlesinger  (Fountains of [...]

Fuel/Friends Chapel Session #20: Field Report

Fuel/Friends Chapel Session #20: Field Report I've spent the last three days wrestling my blankets in a haze of fever dreams, hours passing in what feels like minutes and vice-versa. The soundtrack to much of my (stupid stupid mean) flu has fittingly been the impressionistic complexity of Field Report in these recordings from Shove Chapel earlier in the fall. Even before I roadtested this music to my own actual fever dreams, that's long been one of the best descriptors I could come up with for how Chris Porterfield's rich songs wrestle over failings and threads of stories [...]

Fuel/Friends favorites of 2012

Fuel/Friends favorites of 2012 Another year of music has come and gone, dense with wonder and goodness. I can't possibly articulate the qualitatively- best albums of the year, but I can mentally categorize into my favorites (something that has been a hot discussion topic this week with my musical friends). These are my favorite albums that were released in 2012 - tallied in a scientific manner of how long it took me to take the record off repeat. When I love something, I tend to love music furiously and unrelentingly, listening to it on repeat for weeks and months until I get sick [...]

Best Records of 2012 | 25 – 21 25. Jack White - Blunderbuss - Jack White is back with his first solo record since "the breakup" and he's back to true form in only the way that he can be. Listen: Jack White - Sixteen Saltines | Buy: Blunderbuss 24. Field Report - Field Report - Born of a pedigree [...]

2012 MAD MACKEREL’S 100 FAVOURITE SONGS PART 1: 100 – 81

2012 MAD MACKEREL’S 100 FAVOURITE SONGS PART 1: 100 – 81 So the waiting is over, and here are the first twenty entries in our Top 100 of 2012, part of MM's much expanded Best of the Year review. Over the next five days we will reveal our favourite songs and those of our contributors: Mrs Mackerel, Christy Popper, Barry-Sean, Dr Roddy, Polly Pocket, Middle Sprat, Starbie, and Toy Steve. These are not the most "popular" songs of the year, nor do they lay any subjective claim to being the "best", but they are without doubt the favourites of all those who have written for MM one way or another this [...]

Field Report – Field Report album review

Field Report – Field Report album review On their self-titled first record, Field Report exhibits a real, natural, raw sound that makes it seems like they’re playing the album just for you, live in your friend’s garage or around a fire pit. Songs like “Chico the American” and “Captain Video” are slow and somber on the surface, but hold a deeper, rougher sound that prevent the album from becoming too soft or monotonous. The first track, “Fergus Falls,” progresses gracefully from an instrumental, folky tune to a full, complex number that surrounds and engulfs the listener. Opening on just the notes of a twangy acoustic [...]
