John Talabot's rich sound is chameleonic-play it while stumbling home at 3am; play it on a lonely Sunday morning in your room; play it at a club on a night where you've forgotten your own name-somehow Talabot's hypnotic mix will seem more than uncannily fitting, but perfect. On "Destiny" he teams up with producer Pional and the result is a track that is both cripplingly dark and hopefully celebratory. Talabot's debut album, ƒin , demonstrates his fluency in a variety of genre's, but most importantly, it feels utterly fresh despite its tendency to play with the retro and nostalgic. [...]

John Talabot - Fin By Greg Salter 'Debak Ine', the opening track on John Talabot 's debut album Fin , builds slowly. It opens with samples of a jungle – birds and other creatures squawk as crickets hum and chirp, transporting you to the oppressive heat and dank greenery of a rainforest while also creating the vaguely unsettling ambience upon which the rest of the track is built. It's a seven and a half minute opener, and it's not until after the 4.30 mark that 'Debak Ine' really [...]

fiN - Once In A Lifetime [Talking Heads] | od watch the original

I had been anticipating Fin, the debut album by John Talabot for weeks. Out on Permanent Vacation , this is a beautiful composition through and through. Fluidly weaving from deep beats (So Will be Now) to washed-out synth-scapes (Estiu) to melodic vocal sample-sprinkled house (When The Past Was Present), there's a little bit of everything I love in this release. Hear are some stream only sample, but as usual I highly recommend purchasing the entire album HERE LISTEN: John Talabot- So [...]
On his debut album, Spanish electronic music producer creates one hypnotic groove after another, incorporating different sounds and ideas with each track. WATCH THE REVIEW
fiN asks the question Talking Heads have asked us again and again with 'Once In A Lifetime' cover.

Supported by fiN As we walk in to a very crowded Kasbah tonight and squeeze ourselves up against the bar, the support band are already playing. They're called fiN, yes that's 'fiN' with some eccentric reverse capitalisation, a lowercase 'f' and a capital 'N', presumably to distinguish themselves from early 90's band Fin, not that it makes a jot of difference to google. As they play away we barter with the girl on the bar to find exactly what's actually available tonight, beer - nope, San Miguel - ran out, wine - nope, [...]

Permanent Vacation just let loose "Destiny" the latest single from Balearic artist John Talabot's upcoming fin record. Complementing the song's Balearic rhythms, progression, and structure is a decidedly 90's club feel in the track (listen to those fresh analogue-sounding wobbles in the bass). "Destiny" is the sort of track that's 100% transportive. Trust, 10-15 seconds in and you'll be totally hooked into the track's absolutely magnetic, next level, atmosphere. My most anticipated album so far this year has been John Talabot's Ƒin. Having been hooked to his brand of sun drenched vibes ever since I stumbled onto Matilda's Dream I have been looking forward to a full length from him for aaages. Ƒin is extremely hard to put into words and I've listened to it a good few times now! Don't get me wrong it is EXCELLENT but just hard to place anywhere... I guess the way to think about his album is through kinds of atmosphere... you can't help but feel you are taken [...]
A track from the forthcoming John Talabot album, ƒin , which will officially be out next week. You can stream it on Spotify right now if you're impatient, though. After hearing John collaborate with Glasser on a fantastic track that appeared on his 2011 EP, Families , my expectations were high for this album. I have to say, from what I'm hearing so far, John has delivered. The micro house grooves on this album are smooth and always looking for new ways to evolve. And when John manages to get a vocal [...]
Forthcoming on Permanent Vacation, Fin (ƒin) is the debut album of Barcelona producer John Talabot , whom you may remember from last year's transcendent Families EP . Due to drop on January 27th, my levels of excitement for this release exceed even the delirium I experienced when I first saw an advert for Aquila . You'll see why when you listen to the track below. 'So Will Be Now...' featuring Pional is nothing short of hypnotic, as rich textures collide with mercurial, downtuned vocals to produce a captivating 7 minutes of deep, pulsing [...]

by teepoo Now that I got all this hosting stuff figured out, back to my regular posting. I feel like I haven't posted anything Canadian in a little bit. I don't remember how I first came across Clara Engel. At first, I thought she was friggin weird. Her avante-garde blues and psychadelic fusion isn't for you if you are close-minded. In midst of strangeness like in Lick My Fins you still have elements of a great song, a hook, and a simple but hypnotic rhythmic groove. [...]

by shannon moore Don't we all need some world music outside of waify French songbirds this year? Last Sunday hangover, while endlessly refreshing my Tumblr with glazed eyes and dirty bed head, I caught a blog entry by any random European hipster on what seemed to be David Bazan's Spanish doppelganger, folk artist Bigott . I think it was the video for "She Is My Man" that first drew me in (after the jump) followed closely by the live performance above. [...]
