Today is another get out of the house and enjoy the weather day. It is a bit chilly but the sun is too wonderful to waste. Luckily, I have a few errands so I'll venture out a bit later. For once Gracie is still outside enjoying the day. Usually she's napping about now. I mentioned that I had been to Russia in the 19702s, and Birgit was curious about my trip given how long ago it was and how closed the country was especially to foreigners. She asked if I had ever told the story and I hadn't. [...]
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars In my mind, it's got to be hard to start to craft your own sound, unburdened by the music one consumes, unless of course you're in a semi-remote area, such as Finland. It's clear when listening to Black Lizard that they bear the touchstones of many acts, but their self-titled debut sees the group creating something entirely their own; it's an album with diverse sound that will please any listener. Sonic exploration seems to be the key to the album's opener, "Honey, [...]
Finland’s greatest hope to take over the world, Satellite Stories have dropped their uptempo new single “Scandinavian Girls”. I hate always bringing up the Two Door comparisons with these guys, but I just mean in as a compliment to show how big this band can get. Pure infectious indie-pop that has the potential to make a whole demographic of ladies get very upset. The single will be out June 17th in the UK on Tri-Tone / PIAS. Stay tuned for an album afterwards.
Finnish duo Shine 2009 return with their first new material since their 2001 debut album Realism . On this new single Sami Suova and Mikko Pykäri come off as nonchalant as ever, taking a social stance on money and the financial challenges currently gripping Europe. Musically, "Eurozone" pulls from genres as wide as funk, breakbeat and classic house, a surprising combination that would be perfectly at home in a dark 1990s discotheque. The song is taken off Shine 20092s sophomore album, to be released this fall on Cascine. For more info, [...]

Finnish electro-pop act Aves shares their new single “Elise” and it’s pulsating dark ways are making quite the impact with us. The glitchy-cut is tailored to make dance floors and hearts equally melt together in unison.
Going to Tallinn Music Week? Here are some bands from Finland you may want to see there. Tallinn Music Week is slowly, but steadily becoming a major showcase festival in Northern Europe with 233 artists from 20 countries playing over a long weekend (4-6 April) almost all around the clock -there are some tasty offerings [...]
Like the title says Tiga ’s back with a new track ‘Trust Your Body' getting released this week on his label Turbo Recordings ! The track was created with help with Finland’s own Jori Hulkkonen , one of the most underrated producers in the world! With just about two decades under his belt the man has become a living legend working with the likes of José González , Jesper Dahlbäck , Chromeo and a shit ton more! He also has a pretty cool last name. But wait [...]
After a year or so on the sidelines, Scandinavia and Northern Europe is back when it comes to fantastic pop music. Honestly, in the past few months, I've seen more great music come out of the region than in all of last year. It's really an amazing resurgence, and kind of reminds me of when I first got into Scandinavian music a decade ago. I just wanted to give some of these fantastic songs another look today, because each and every one of them is totally special. Not only that, but most are from artists I'd never featured [...]
Great music has always come from Scandinavia but right more it seems music blogs are being taken over by those from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and yet people may have gotten that Finland is in Scandinavia too. Finnish 3-piece Husky Rescue create colourful electronic pop music with fluffy vocals that you can easily get lost in.

My favorite Fins have a shinny new video for their newest single 'Latter Days'. The single is from their upcoming sophomore album White Orchid which will be released April 5th (Finland), and May 3rd to the rest of the world. The video is pretty simple and just shows the band in a vintage type homage of just rocking the song out.
Melancholic electro-pop outfit Redder from Helsinki indulge us with the brandnew video for their song "Faster" , which was originally released in October 2012. This trippy piece of eye candy was shot by Veli-Matti Hoikka and Aapo Huhta. Download the song below and find more music on Redder's bandcamp page . The band will release a six song EP this spring. mp3 | Faster
Some lovely work by the Pirate Bay in Finland. The Finnish copyright police have built a parody of their site, and the Bay have called the copyright police : “While The Pirate Bay may have a positive view on copying, it will not stand by and watch copyright enforcing organizations disrespect copyright,” Pirate Bay’s Winston says in a comment. “CIAPC is like an ugly high school bully without friends. It’s time to take a stand. Cyber bullying is a serious matter to us all,” Winston continues. Boing Boing points out that the Pirate Bay can't [...]
THE frontman of Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish is planning a side-project based on the life and work of Scrooge McDuck. The keyboard player, Tuomas Holopainen, is working on a project alongside an orchestra, as well as Scottish pipe and whistle players and some unnamed special guests, to put to music the story of 1980s Duck Tales comic Last Sled To Dawson. He said: "With Scrooge, there was also a much deeper level hidden between the stories and the gags. "This is a book about life itself. What an unfathomable privilege it is, what are the things [...]
by Bill Pearis Finnish trio K-X-P released their second album, succinctly titled II , this week on UK label Melodic and Manimal Records in North America. The self-described "anti-band" employ elements of Krautrock, early '80s minimal synth as well as the club sounds of big beat and acid house, with some diversions into almost madrigal folk. (I have a feeling they like metal too.) Frontman Timo Kaukolampi spent time for Euro pop factory Xenomania writing songs for Annie [...]
Finnish act French FIlms return with a new single called “Latter Days”. While we initially get hazy vocals under a grunge landscape on the verses, the chorus blasts us with sunshine-quality melodies that are simply massive. A wonderful bit of contrast as the boys prepare to release their sophomore album White Orchid on May 3rd.
