South by Southwest 2013 is almost upon us (like next week!), and at TGTF towers we are honing our scoop sniffing skills, polishing our camera lenses and preparing ourselves for a glut of musical goodness. So who can you catch in Austin that you haven’t seen paraded in front of you on MTV and the BBC? Well, probably no-one, but I’m going to point you in the direction of one of the shows I for one, would not be missing. (And best of all, it's absolutely free - along 2 other nights of outdoor music goodness.) [...]

Here I am, left to go last once again with my favorite songs of the year. I feel as though I listened to more in 2012 than in any other year, and my musical experience was all the better for it. More music means more candidates, which admittedly makes lists like this one tougher. But [...]

50. Spector - Enjoy It While It Lasts 49. Ceremony - Zoo 48. Jeremih - Late Nights 47. Rah Rah - The Poet's Dead 46. Yeasayer - Fragrant World [...]

The role of the music video is a little unclear in 2012. It's certainly not for television anymore. With parody clips, cat fails, and random viral disasters racking up the pageviews on the Internet, it sometimes seems like wasted effort to put effort into making a creative, time consuming, well-done set of visuals. We're glad that artists are still doing it, though. The year's best music videos are also some of the most creative. Sometimes it was a trippy, mind-blowing type of creativity, and other times it was more subtle. Whatever the approach, each one of these videos is thought [...]

50. Mikky Ekko - Pull Me Down 49. Blondfire - Where the Kids Are 48. Gap Dream - Generator 47. The 1975 - You 46. Fun. - Some Nights [...]
2012...what a year of music. We got new releases from favorites such as Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Grizzly Bear and heard new favorites in Father John Misty, Nude Beach, Tanlines, and more. Last year Earbuddy celebrated one year of existence with the best 50 albums of 2011 . However, we've grown since [...]
Coming up with the albums you loved in any given year is not an inherently difficult task. But deciding between your love and just how good that record is when compared to everyone else's choices can be downright hard. It's the reason our staff dukes it out over this list every year. Because if we [...]

We love this time of year, when music more or less takes a couple weeks off and we can all sit around and listen to our favorite records of the year and catch up on records we may have slept on––and yes!––rummage through countless lists of favorites for some gems. Here is our entry to the cacophony of rankings and year-ending music advice –– our favorite 60 albums of 2012 ; the albums we think you should spend the last few days of humanity listening to. In a time when almost any song imaginable is readily available through a variety of media--iTunes, YouTube, Pandora, Spotify, torrents--it might seem a bit antiquated to countdown the year's best albums. With the consumption of music transitioning to a singles-oriented environment, tackling a cohesive full-length project almost seems pointless. Almost. But in 2012, a select group of albums hit hard enough to shatter our usual ADD-affected tendencies, and these projects reminded us of the impact an album can have that could never be touched by a hit single. It's impossible to predict the future of music right now. There [...]

It's getting harder and harder to keep up with songs. It's an obvious thing to say, but as 2012 settles into its grave, we're feeling the effects of the enormous pace and volume of music more than ever: singles are taking over. While certain albums have reiterated the importance of full bodies of work, our attention span is shrinking, information overload is inching closer to a point of completely overwhelming, and our appetite for instant gratification is becoming insatiable. In a strange way, we're okay with that. Sure, there's something special about the connection with an album, and we [...]
As our twelve days of Christmas continue, we have more on the way with another MUF writer, Michele, whose top songs of 2012 represent another great year in music. ...
Yesterday, we brought you our first 50 picks of the year's best songs . And today, we're wrapping up perhaps the most difficult list we have had to create. There are have been so many great singles, non-album tracks, loosies, leftovers, etc... in the past 12 months. But still, we dug through our posts and iTunes libraries to compile what we believe are the best tracks to drop this year. You will find plenty of Potholes favorites—from Kendrick Lamar to TNGHT to BADBADNOTGOOD —populating our choices along with a few artists that might surprise you. [...]
Even though MTV doesn't really play them anymore, music videos have had a strong resurgence these past few years thanks primarily to services like YouTube and Vimeo. In addition to monetizing their visual content, artists have been able to reach and therefore gain more fans through a medium thought to have killed the radio star. It has also led to some huge leaps in technology as seen in Chairlift's incredible video for "Met Before". Director Jordan Fish and his team essentially allowed the viewer to choose their own adventure (remember those books?) and create a new experience each time [...]
As the year end lists begin piling in, we thought it was time for one of Earbuddy's favorites; the breakout ladies of 2012! It is so cliché as to border on being ridiculous. It seems like just about every year, some music journalist declares that it is finally the year of the [...]

I tend to romanticize the fall season. Sweater enthusiast aside, I find great solace in the season's shifting energies, the blotches of oranges and reds and yellows on neighboring streets, the way everyone's so adamant in "getting together," and how there's this overall appreciation for the macabre and supernatural. I usually attend at least one 24-hour horror movie marathon, I go through at least two bags of candy corn, and everything I eat or drink has something to do with a pumpkin. I've tried to explain why I feel this way, or give credence as to what the hell this obsession [...]

If you take it upon yourself to start a fake Facebook page about someone who you have no affiliation with, you're probably a weirdo. Here are 15 examples of that. It being Friday, and just shy of half-way through the ninth month of the year, this morning I ( @andykahn ) decided on a whim to tweet out my Top 9 Albums of 2012 (so far). Along with the nine I chose, I also added a handful of, “Honorable Mentions,” that didn’t quite make the cut. With a quarter of the year left, 2012 has thus far proven to be another impressive year of album releases. #9 album of 2012 (so far) @ mapsnatlases "Beware [...]
