Ke$ha might be one of the easiest pop stars to mock in history, but with Warrior 's surprising detours, Iggy Pop cameos, and Wayne Coyne collaborations prove, Ke$ha is a very smart girl who knows exactly when and how to deviate from her image, resulting in some remarkably good pop music (no, really). As a colleague of mine recently noted, you have to be really smart to make music this dumb. Ke$ha has become incredibly ubiquitous in an extremely short amount of time, everything about her screaming "manufactured pop diva" but a surprisingly small amount of these criticisms [...]

It's no secret that Ke$ha has been in the studio with several of rock's finest, but whether those tracks would make the cut for her new album remained unclear until now. NME reports that the pop diva's upcoming LP Warrior will indeed include collaborations with a host of major rockers: The Flaming Lips ' Wayne Coyne (with whom she premiered a track in April ), legendary rock god Iggy Pop , Ben Folds , [...]

Like anything and everything, Oklahoma's The Flaming Lips once occupied a quite definitive space in time; their extraterrestrial and ever outré genre mush of ultimate timelessness musical ensuring brains be kept jellified in joy whilst their elaborate live shows consistently salvaged biceps from premature burnout. Scribing subjectively, both The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots proved formative records in incontrovertibly warping my perception of what could feasibly constitute good, bad and unsparingly ugly stuff sonic, and Wayne Coyne et al. have incontestably authored things to be bundled into each one [...]
The Flaming Lips party with their friends for this Record Store Day one-off. 2012, Warner Bros. / Lovely Sorts of Death 7.8 / 10.0 Before we head into this review, I should state that I’m reviewing the Record Store Day release version of this album and not the chopped [...]

Photo by Catherine Watkins Got 24 hours to kill? Well, why not spend it with The Flaming Lips as they attempt music history. As previously reported , Wayne Coyne and his band of merry weirdos will try to break Jay-Z's Guinness World Record for Most Concerts in One Day by playing eight shows in eight cities . MTV will be streaming the whole thing online as part of this year's O Music Awards . The Lips will kick things off in Memphis at 7:30pm ET before boarding the good [...]
The Flaming Lips clearly have some great Heady Fwends out there, as evidenced by their Record Store Day release The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends ’ impressive list of collaborators: Erykah Badu, Nick Cave, Coldplay's Chris Martin, My Morning Jacket's Jim James, Ke$ha, Biz Markie ; you name it, Wayne Coyne probably wrote them a nice tweet asking for vocal stems. You’re probably going to head straight for that Ke$ha track, “2012,” and we don’t blame you, because it is actually pretty good? Ke$ha sounds surprisingly at home over the [...]

Well, it’s finally here — Ke$ha ’s collaboration with The Flaming Lips . And, as anticipated, it’s a mid-tempo love ditty about finding the inner courage to stay true to yourself. Just kidding! It’s totally bonkers and about doing acid during the apocalypse, featuring distorted guitars, a lot of clanging, and quite possibly more than one tortured cat. (No baby seals, though.) In short, everything we expected after that wild behind-the-scenes video featuring mountains of (fake?) cocaine. "It's 2012, think we're going to Hell," K-Dolla sings before listing [...]
Now that Record Store Day is over and The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends has officially dropped, we can finally hear that Ke$ha collaboration with the band that also includes a cameo from Biz Markie. Listen to the Flaming Lips and Ke$ha's song "2012 (You Must Be Upgraded)" below. Read more »

You've heard cuts featuring Bon Iver , New Fumes , Prefuse 73 , and others. Now you can lay your ears on the Doctor Who -sampling, apocalyptic Heady Fwends Ke$ha collab below. Read More...

Sit your ears down and press play on the FLAMING LIPS new demo, 2012, which features the KE$HA on vox. Best shit you'll hear today and potential to be epic ..

The Flaming Lips' Record Store Day Double LP, The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends , is probably the RSD release I'm most interested in. Featuring collaborations with Bon Iver (" Ashes In The Air "), Yoko Ono , Erykah Badu, Neon Indian, Lightning Bolt, Ke$ha and many more, the new LP promises to have something for everyone. The Flaming Lips have released a video for their collaboration with New Fumes, "Girl, You're So Weird", that features some NSFW nudity. Watch the video below. Read more »
The Flaming Lips roped a whole ton of collaborators into their forthcoming Record Store Day album The Flaming Lips And Heavy Fwends , and none of those collaborators was more unlikely than the ultra-crass top-40 pop star Ke$ha, who's also letting the band use some of her blood in the actual vinyl copies of the album. As it turns out, their partnership won't end there. NME points out that Wayne Coyne has Tweeted that his band and Ke$ha are at work on "a freaky new song about futuristic sex toys!!!" [...]
We've been scratching our heads since we first heard that Ke$ha would be one of the myriad guest stars on the Flaming Lips' double-vinyl release The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends . While a new interview with Wayne Coyne on Pitchfork doesn't exactly clarify the thinking behind the collaboration - at least, beyond the fact that she's a huge fan of the Lips, gave Coyne some blood, and is "willing to be a freak" - it does provide some interesting details on what we can except from the resulting song. "It's exactly what people [...]

Oh God, I'm more excited now about Record Store Day , April 21st, than I was when we found out about the Bon Iver - THE FLAMING LIPS collaboration. Why? Because the gossip turning around the rumour mill was true. The Flaming Lips are making music with everyone's drunken guilty pleasure, Ke$ha. And here's the full track listing for the album, The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends. Our very own psychedelic rockers Tame [...]
Looks like The Flaming Lips just won Record Store Day. On April 21st, collectors all over the world will celebrate the fifth anniversary of this indie record store appreciation day by lining up in the wee hours of the morning to purchase RSD-exclusive singles, live albums, and reissues. But the ante has officially been upped with today's announcement that Wayne Coyne and co. plan to release The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends - a double album of the band's recent collaborations, pressed on multicolored vinyl in one-of-a-kind "custom art jackets." While some of the tracks have been released [...]

The Flaming Lips are planning on making a big splash on Record Store Day with the release of a brand new album featuring collaborations with pretty much everyone in music. Entitled The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends , the album features 13 songs and collaborations with everyone from Coldplay, Bon Iver and Yoko Ono to Ke$ha and Biz Markie. It will be released as a limited edition multi-vinyl set with two multi-colored 123 records placed in separate art jackets and bagged together. CoS points out that no two albums will look alike [...]
