The Flaming Lips are such unlikely heroes of underground music, having begun in Oklahoma City -not a place known for its stimulating indie music scene- three decades ago, this year. Just as the band prepares for the incredible milestone, they are also days away from releasing their 13th studio album "The Terror" via the longstanding home to the band, Warner Music Group. Stephen Drozd, an evolving asset to the band since he joined in 1991, sat down with me to talk about the record, the industry, life, and human skulls. Over the last few [...]

The Terror , the dark and anxious new album from the Flaming Lips, is already out overseas, and it arrives here in a couple of weeks. Last night, the band brought the album's title track and their insane-looking new stage rig to the stage at the Late Show With David Letterman , bringing the nightmarish vision of Wayne Coyne's tentacled synth-baby to poor unfortunate insomniacs all across America. Letterman, who was interviewing Captain Beefheart on network TV decades ago, was not cowed. In other Flaming Lips news, Wayne Coyne recently revealed in a Reddit [...]
Did You Hear? :: The Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne revealed during a Reddit AMA that the group is working on an entire album with Ke$ha , and that it's called Lip$ha. Lady Dolla previously worked with the Lips for "2012 (You Must Be Upgraded)" off the band's Heady Fwends collection. [ SPIN ] :: Ever wondered what Taylor Swift 's latest single " 223 would sound like if she were 32? Wonder no more. Fuse has made a parody of the song [...]

Known for his weird humor and eccentric personality, Flaming Lips' leadman Wayne Coyne took part in a Reddit AMA Session today to reveal some interesting facts. In the session, he revealed that the Flaming Lips will be collaborating again with Ke$ha in an album to be called Lip$ha . This isn't the first time the band has worked with the "Tik Tok" songstress as they worked with her on their album, Heady Fwends . "She's funny. She's humble. She's badass. She's everything. She's awesome," spoke the zany frontman on Ke$ha. [...]

Chris ' Top Lists of 2012 This was a good year for music. It usually always is. Mostly, the more one pays attention to new material, the more they think, “This was a good year for music”. It’s safe to say that a lot of the bands I adored back in college took a break this year (save a few, see below), which left a power vacuum in my heart. This year I made a point not to be a jackass in my review, let’s see if it works. [...]

SPIN : This might be the weirdest combination of artists performing together since Fred Durst rapped on that "What's Goin' On" tribute track. CoS : The Hood Internet put together a sample-free LP with help from Cadence Weapon, A.C. Newman, and more. A.V. Club : !!!, tUnE-yArDs, and 23 other bands with difficult to pronounce or spell names. Twitter : The internet was invented so that things like @DJsComplaining could exist. [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Getty The Flaming Lips are approaching their 30th birthday, an almost unfathomable age for a non-nostalgia act. They were already veterans when they took their weirdo shtick to Beverly Hills, 90210's Peach Pit After Dark. ("I have never been a big fan of alternative music," said the show's preppiest [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , Holy Hell , Music Appreciation Facebook The Flaming Lips are awesome. We can all pretty much agree on that, right? Doing things like playing Spinner AOL's big free NXNE street party on June 16 might be enough to prove this point, but it just so happens there's so, so much more. Nearly 30 years into the game [...]
As we reported last week, apparently Ke$ha is collaborating with her "idol" Iggy Pop for a song on her upcoming album. Our initial response to this was pretty much like everyone else's, involving a combination of the letters "W," "T," and "F," but the more we think about it, the more we're coming around to the idea that the track could actually be pretty great. After all, it's hardly the first pop/rock collaboration, and some of the results of pairing up pop singers and rock stars over the years have been thoroughly excellent. We've pulled together a few [...]

You might remember a few weeks back the Flaming Lips released a collaborative record called Heady Fwends on Record Store Day, featuring guest contributions from Ke$ha, Erykah Badu, Chris Martin, Nick Cave and more. As weird as that story was, it's only getting weirder from here on out. As part of the release of the project, ten limited edition pressings are being released for $2,500 each and each vinyl contains samples of blood from every artist involved on Heady Fwends . So that exists, and if that sounds like something you might be interested [...]
The new Flaming Lips collaborative album is surprisingly cohesive and coherent despite it's insane gauntlet of guests both big and small. WATCH THE REVIEW

The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends , the Oklahoma band's Record Store Day release, is an interesting piece of music. The Flaming Lips are known as experimental in their music and outspoken outside of music, so seeing their name next to Kesha and Chris Martin inspires a double take. Second looks aside, what you see is what you get from the collaborative album, which seemed to be the band finding the most unexpected names to work with them. That being said, as odd as it is to see The Flaming Lips and Kesha on the same song, it actually sounds [...]

It's been what feels like forever and a day (as Kelly Rowland might say) since we last heard from our almighty Ke$ha , Empress of Trash-Pop. But rest assured-she's coming back, animals. Earlier this year, the glitter-drenched rock 'n' roll pop princess spent time in L.A. recording with unstoppable pop hit-makers that helped shape her debut record Animal , Dr. Luke and Benny Blanco . This time however, she was busy crafting her very own genre, which she lovingly referred to on Twitter as "cock pop." [...]
Filed under: News Lyle A. Waisman, Getty Images It wasn't enough to play on The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends , a star-studded limited-edition two-LP set the Flaming Lips will release this year as part of Record Store Day . To truly satisfy Wayne Coyne , the enduring indie band's kooky frontman, the album's numerous guest musicians will have to bleed for their art. As the NME repots, Coyne is hoping [...]
