It's with an unerring regularity that, around the weekly midpoint, I find myself feeling as though I'm that USB stick at the centre of one of Wayne Coyne's Jell-O crania – floating in gloopy inertia, and slightly stuck. It's sticky today too, which has only enhanced the intensity of this truly indescribable sensation but it's this one from Louisville ambientalist BEΔCH HEΔRT which has most potently piqued that feeling. Entitled Primavera, it probably doesn't help that there's a commensurately inexpressible discrepancy between the Barça weather of last month and that of London this, although the [...]

Villa Kang - "Jiro" [ mp3 ] from When The Future was Ultra Modern , out now: free download available from Villa Kang’s website Toronto producer/songwriter’s initial EP is an ambitious, free-wheeling, experimental celebration of futuristic electro-pop. Highly recommended. [...]
There really is little refuting the ambling, at times aimless nature of The Flaming Lips' latest, The Terror . And for a band of the sort of extolled stature to have been continually accredited to Wayne Coyne et al., it indubitably lacked a certain spark – that unmistakably ignited within their nigh on every previous. ( The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends not withstanding.) Thus it comes as something of a relief to hear them here return not so much to incendiary, as sultry 'n' smouldering ways as they themselves [...]

The Flaming Lips: The Terror - I will say that when I first started listening to The Terror , I had high hopes. The first two tracks took me to a weird place, a disturbing dream set within the congested atmosphere of a house party. ‘Look... The Sun Is Rising’ evokes that feeling of being the only introvert in a crowd of extroverts, an outcast in a festive gathering. You feel confused, like you should be having a good time but you’re not. It’s only until you’ve escaped from that dingy apartment that you feel like [...]
The Flaming Lips' new album The Terror is already out in Europe, and its American release is imminent. And now the band is sharing the song that arguably serves as the album's centerpiece, the 13-minute freakout-groove "You Lust," a piece of expansive multi-part psychedelia that stands as the band's longest recorded song since the 19802s. Below, listen to "You Lust" and watch a video, in which the band talks about how they made the song and why it's so long. Read More...
How about some new material from The Flaming Lips to give you the momentum to make it through today's hangover after last night's exhausting Major Lazer workout. [...]

The Flaming Lips are less than a month away from releasing their new album The Terror , though they've already managed the implausible feat of performing first single " Sun Blows Up Today " in a Super Bowl commercial . The next song we've heard from The Terror also concerns most earthlings' favorite flaming ball of gas, but it's considerably tenser and noisier than its predecessor. Album opener "Look... The Sun Is Rising" is an eerie, clanking thing that would've fit perfectly well into Embryonic , and you can hear it at NPR . [...]
The Flaming Lips are no strangers to releasing music in unconventional formats - heck, they've already released music inside human body parts made of candy - so their '13 Valentine's Day treat shouldn't really come as a huge surprise to anyone: The Lips are releasing a compilation of love songs, contained on a USB stick, and packaged inside an anatomically correct chocolate human heart. The chocolate itself was created by Dude, Sweet Chocolate in Dallas, TX, and each box includes signatures from Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd. They sell for $60 a pop - [...]
Yesterday, we learned that the Flaming Lips have a new album called The Terror coming in a few months. The album's first single is actually a non-album bonus cut called "Sun Blows Up Today," a euphoric burst of white-noise keyboard explosions and feedback. This song will also soundtrack a Super Bowl commercial this year, which makes sense, since historically gigantic TV audiences love avant-psych freakouts. The band just debuted the song with a lyric video that looks like a laptop exploding inside your brain. Watch it below. Read More...

Here's another thing that Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne can cross off of his increasingly insane to-do list: Record an hour-long radio drama about the human-head-shaped tumor on the inside of his leg. Coyne teamed up with McSweeney's, KCRW, and producer Richard Parks to put together the show, entitled Wayne Coynes Human Head Shaped Tumor . It's a continuous narrative in the style of Orson Welles's War Of The Worlds , and it features appearances and new music from a deeply impressive cast: Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste, Bill Callahan, Okkervil River's Will Sheff, the Fiery Furnaces Eleanor Friedberger, [...]

Words by Brendan All Hallow's Eve is upon us! Wednesday is the day of celebration, the dance of the dead. There's no need for a suave/slutty costume; there's no need for candy; there's no need for jack-o'-lanterns and cobwebs and tombstones. All you need are some friends, some pumpkin beers, and some good fucking music. That's where we come in. Here's a mixtape of Halloweeny tunes for you to play at your party. Some of these bands are as old as the hills, and some I quite literally just heard about [...]
It goes without saying that the fall mixtape is my favorite of the year. I've spent the last two weeks narrowing this down to what hopefully will be as rad to hear on your end as it is each time I listen through it on mine. Getting the closest friends, setting your destination for the [...]

SPIN : This might be the weirdest combination of artists performing together since Fred Durst rapped on that "What's Goin' On" tribute track. CoS : The Hood Internet put together a sample-free LP with help from Cadence Weapon, A.C. Newman, and more. A.V. Club : !!!, tUnE-yArDs, and 23 other bands with difficult to pronounce or spell names. Twitter : The internet was invented so that things like @DJsComplaining could exist. [...]
There's a Deep Purple tribute album on the horizon called Re-Machined: A Tribute to Machine Head , which, as you can imagine, is a reimagining of the group's classic album Machine Head . The Flaming Lips, who are not shy of doing weird stuf f, stepped up to take on "Smoke On The Water." You can hear that - as well as Metallica's cover of "When A Blind Man Cries" - at Ultimate Classic Rock It's out 9/25 on Eagle Records .
The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends was definitely one of the coolest contributions to Record Store Day 2012. The extremely limited double-LP set featured the Lips alongside a slew of notable guests (Bon Iver, Tame Impala, Erykah Badu, etc.), pressed on high-quality, multi-color vinyl. Next week, the collection gets a wide release (CD and digital) with one new track, "Tasered And Maced," featuring Ghostland Observatory. This comes at the expense of one old track, "I Don't Want You To Die," featuring Chris Martin. You can check out the GO collab "Tasered And Maced" at Soundcloud [...]

Yesterday, Marc Maron's über-popular WTF podcast ventured to Oklahoma City to hang out with Wayne Coyne. They chatted some about flying, drugs and their personal relationships with creativity. The episode was just posted online, and you can stream it here . Their part starts right at the 23-minute mark.
Listen to The Flaming Lips cover The Beach Boys ' classic "God Only Knows" . We've already heard The Beach Boys ' newest track last week, and now The Flaming Lips have just surprised us with an unexpected cover of "God Only Knows" off of one of the greatest pop albums, The Beach Boys ' "Pet Sounds" . The tune is almost nothing like the original, as the avant-garde rockers made the record completely their own, trading the sunny harmonies [...]
