The Flaming Lips time travel from the future to give us this noisy and hypnotic take on David Bowie's "Heroes"

The Flaming Lips visited NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night, where they not only performed Try To Explain off their new album, The Terror, but front man Wayne Coyne also sat in on a game of Pictionary with fellow Fallon guests Julie Bowen and Demi Lovato. As if that wasn't enough, The Flaming Lips performed a triumphant cover of David Bowie's 1977 gem Heroes as a web exclusive. Watch the Lips' impressive cover... And here's video of Try To [...]

"Try to Explain" [...]
The promo-mode Flaming Lips checked into 30 Rock last night to perform Jimmy Fallon once more before Fallon makes the long move to another floor on 30 Rock to host The Tonight Show . To mark the occasion, which largely served to promote the Lips new record The Terror , the band performed album cut "Try To Explain" - alongside Bowie standard "Heroes." It's not often in life that one gets to be in an iconic freak-rock band and cover iconic freak-rock forefather David Bowie in a year where said forefather is operating as [...]
There's never a dull moment when that moment involves Wayne Coyne and last night was no different as he visited the studios of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon . There with The Flaming Lips to perform Terror featuring track "Try to Explain", they also laid down a cover of David Bowie's "Heroes". Coyne was pretty much starkers for the performances. Before stripping off though he did seem to enjoy and entertaining game of pictionary with Fallon, Demi Lovato, and Julie Bowen. [...]

Music videos are great in that they allow for an original visual interpretation of the song in question. It's free range for whoever's in charge, which more often than not, may yield stunning, magical results. Unsurprisingly, The Flaming Lips' 13-minute long "You Lust" (shortened down to four minutes for the video) take a route so [...]
" You Lust " is the pounding 13-minute drone-groove at the heart of the Flaming Lips new album The Terror , and its video cuts the song down to a more manageable four minutes. It does not, however, do anything else to make the song more digestible. In the clip, we see a naked man and a naked woman lying in the middle of a room, their body parts hooked up to freaky electrodes, while three more naked women do experiments on them and frogs and monkeys crawl around them. You know, normal stuff. Please be advised that the [...]

A Place To Bury Strangers' exclusive Record Store Day release "Strange Moon," is a tribute to Portland punk veterans Dead Moon on 123 colored vinyl (for those vinyl fetishists out there). Dead Moon was my friends favorite band and soon to become one [...] The post A Place to Bury Strangers does Dead Moon, and the Question of Covers appeared first on Your Music Is Awful.com .

The Flaming Lips: The Terror - I will say that when I first started listening to The Terror , I had high hopes. The first two tracks took me to a weird place, a disturbing dream set within the congested atmosphere of a house party. ‘Look... The Sun Is Rising’ evokes that feeling of being the only introvert in a crowd of extroverts, an outcast in a festive gathering. You feel confused, like you should be having a good time but you’re not. It’s only until you’ve escaped from that dingy apartment that you feel like [...]
The Flaming Lips drop a lyric video for the eerie "Try To Explain," which is one of the many spacey and synthetic tracks off the group's latest album, The Terror . The album drops officially next week. Enjoy! Check a review for the Heady Fwends compilation the band dropped last year right here:

The Flaming Lips' new album The Terror is already out in Europe, and its American release is imminent. And now the band is sharing the song that arguably serves as the album's centerpiece, the 13-minute freakout-groove "You Lust," a piece of expansive multi-part psychedelia that stands as the band's longest recorded song since the 19802s. Longtime Napa residents and businessmen Bob Vogt and Gabe Meyers think that as important as Napa County has been for the Bay Area in terms of food and wine, entertainment is extremely lacking. Meyers, a 42-year-old sports media producer, and Vogt, a 63-year-old lawyer and commercial real estate developer – he’s one of the principal owners of Napa’s Uptown Theatre – believe the city and region should represent more than a good meal and spa day. “You can only have so many great meals and so much great wine before you’re like, ‘I have to work [...]
