Two weeks ago Flickr made some policy changes that unlocked a bunch of photos in my long-abandoned account. The 100 or so photos had previously been hidden from me - in 2006, when I was last using the service, I had exceeded the storage limit, and my photos were held hostage unless I subscribed to a "premium" account. Yahoo hat nicht nur Tumblr , den Blogdienst mit dem komischen Namen für ganz viel Geld gekauft (wenn das mal nicht ein Groschengrab wird). Aber auch Flickr, der Fotoplattform mit dem komischen Namen wurden ein Tapetenwechsel vergönnt. Sieht jetzt schön aufgeräumt aus. Und als besonders Schmackerl wurde für jeden Nutzer der Speicherplatz auf kostenlose 1 Terabyte Speicherplatz hinaufgesetzt. Das ist recht ordentlich und ich überlege, da ich meinen eigenen Fotoblog vernachlässige und es mit Instagram nicht so habe, ob ich nicht wieder ein wenig ....... Yesterday's news that Yahoo is buying Tumblr is certainly big for musicians given the widespread usage of Tumblr for music blogs often as an adjunct to an official website. But it also overshadowed Yahoo's relaunch of Flickr, a fading giant making a comeback at a time that might be ideal for musicians who've taken to services like Instagram and/or who see the possiblities in content marketing via Creative Commons licensing. Not sure what's more impressive: that Yahoo has rescued and improved the beleaguered photo sharing site under Marissa Mayer or that it now comes with one TB of free storage space . Every other photo sharing site - Facebook/Instagram and Google, particularly - are now playing catch-up. For the first time in a long time, it feels like Flickr is ahead of the pack, invested in its own success, and innovating. That makes me want to resign-up for the service.

Tim Lukeman (aka owlwise12 ) is a collage artist - location unknown. I do know he's in his late 502s, married and once wrote fantasy novels though (it says so on his Flickr account ).
