There's a certain, and certainly clichéd rigmarole which greets the every peep made by Steven Ellison and subsequently articulated via his Flying Lotus SoundCloud account, with every unapologetically scrappy cut and iffy glitch hyped up and machined about to ludicrous, and indeed ludicrously excessive ubiquity. Though S.D.S. – a woozy galaxy bounce once employed as backing for reputedly precocious Pittsburgh wordsmith Mac Miller, the initialism signifying Somebo dy Do Something – is the sort of gently jazzy instrumental to have become Ellison's stock-in-trade around the time of the irreproachable Cosmogramma . And only once unstuck from Miller's wack gumball rhymes does this [...]
It's a bad wind that don't blow somebody some good, or so the hackneyed old adage goes and so it seems on a blustery Camden eve for Barry – the solitary inhabitant of a nearby phone box perma-clad in sunglasses even at this, the death of night. He's his eight cans of Special Brew, and a wicked tongue with which to lap them up – a devilish flicker of beard protruding forth form his chinny chin chin. It's hideously chilly out as we draw close to midnight, and yet there's an inexhaustible hope hidden deep within him as he spacks [...]

Nothing is more dissatisfying than when a music video doesn’t mesh perfectly with its song, and alternatively, there is nothing more satisfying than when it does. In this case, FLYING LOTUS has got it spot on. 'Tiny Tortures', from his new album, Until The Quiet Comes , has an almost dream like feel about it, with understated percussion and dizzying layered sounds. The clip that accompanies it can be described as nothing less than unexpected, and frankly quite strange yet also perfect for the music it was [...]

Elijah Wood gets an arm in an Akira -style fashion over a typically fantastic track by Flying Lotus .
Just in time for longer nights and crispier weather, Flying Lotus scores a series of lucid sex dreams on Until the Quiet Comes.
Flying Lotus - Until The Quiet Comes By Alex Kavanagh Almost two minutes into the video short to promote his new album , Stephen Ellison aka Flying Lotus appears like Charon at the wheel of a 67 Chevy, to shepherd away the dancing soul of a dead youth. The influence of cartoons and computer games is always present in Flylo’s work, but this proposes a more mature sense of the cinematic. After studying film in college, you can’t help but imagine the wonders that might await us [...]

Noodlingly intricate, glitchy, dense and dizzying, L.A. beatsmith Flying Lotus continues to pick up the Dilla baton and run with it, mashing it up and going absolutely haywire. Until the Quiet Comes is a bastard hybrid of dubstep, R&B, Hip Hop and jazz. The complexities and intricately soldered connections mean there are few, if any, dominant lines. These are dense collages of aural oddities. We suppose we should appreciate the sheer effort that’s gone into constructing these weird tableaux - but we can’t always connect. The constant shifting sounds and rhythms remind us a little of [...]

Steve Ellison's latest opus, Until the Quiet Comes , the widely anticipated full-length follow-up to his lauded Cosmogramma LP, drops tomorrow on Warp . Ellison takes us on a tour through lush, glimmering, ephemeral altered states of consciousness–(Listen to "Dream to Me" and "Until The Colours Come.") His grooves and melodies on tracks like "Putty Boy Strut," "Sultan's Request" and "Nightcaller" reflect a child-like looseness, mischieviousness, and sense of humour. Ellison's smoky melancholic jazz-moods are prevalent in "Only If You Wanna," "Hunger", and "Phantasm." Fly Lo calls on a handful [...]

There's no doubt that this new album on the way from Flying Lotus is going to be fairly different from any of his previous releases and I've got a feeling that it might be something
Disregard the rumors that this is a tribute to Elaine Benes' boyfriend, David Putty. Yet the mechanics remain sound. Enter ethereal dancing robot music. Not to be confused with the sad robot twerk waltzes of Future and/or the Drakebot 3000. The loose concept surrounding Flying Lotus' fourth album (queue Mad Rapper clip) is that it's intended to soundtrack the dreams of childhood. So it is about the levitation of the innocent, the good and bad that creeps into your subconscious after 12, the stuff that slips away when you smoke yourself to sleep every night. Maybe just think of it [...]

Flying Lotus nos presenta el video de "Putty Boy Strut", track de su próxima producción Until The Quiet Comes que sale el próximo 2 de octubre. Como es costumbre el video es una muy buena animación, esta vez hecha por el animador inglés Cyriak. Enjoy.
Listen to some frustratingly short teaser clips of a number of tracks from FlyLo 's forthcoming Until the Quiet Comes , with beautiful visual accompaniment courtesy of Beeple.
Flying Lotus drops a short film in association with the forthcoming album he's got on Warp Records titled Until the Quiet Comes. It's an interesting piece of film. It's a bit morbid, and features some kind of life after death-type experience toward the end, yet, people seem to be unresponsive to the action the camera is filming. Maybe the guy has turned into a ghost?

« See Thru To U », cosmique, avec [...]
Sonic adventurer Flying Lotus has dropped a new track from his forthcoming album, Until the Quiet Comes , and it features the terrific Erykah Badu on vocals. I also suspect Thundercat may have something to do with the bassline. This album will be the followup to 20102s well-received Cosmogramma , and it'll be the first album this guy has put out since picking up some serious steam last year with his ever-growing Brainfeeder Records label. "See Thru To U" is a slightly different set of sounds for FlyLo, but fans can't say [...]

The word rumbling around Low End Theory last year was that Flying Lotus and Empress Badu were recording a joint album. That explained the DJ sets in Lincoln Heights, the public Tweeting, and the trail of pixie dust that briefly lingered in the Airliner after she graced the club. Recently, Lotus revealed that the songs they recorded amounted to scarcely more than sketches. The most fully formed was "See Thru To U," which feels vaporous in its own right. Consider that the THC float and the ethereal nature of neo-soul flower power. I'm not sure if Thundercat is [...]

A few nights ago (6/23 to be exact) I was lucky enough to see one of my all time favorite artists perform in his hometown of LA at famous venue The Music Box. He's an experimental producer that needs no introduction- Flying Lotus . Known the world over for pushing the envelope of electronic and hip hop music, his performance was nothing short of extraordinary. It was particularly interesting because it was his label's (Brainfeeder) party and several of his label mates were there. The bass player from Thundercat and a drummer even performed live on stage with him throughout [...]
Flying Lotus - Kill Your Co-Workers from Warp Records on Vimeo . In contrary to at least some people I know writing for this blog, and a lot of people I know, who are "into music", I am really not the biggest fan of Flying Lotus . It's just that at the point where all the music dudes I hang around with, hear innovation, craziness, whatever.. I just hear... nothing. So a good way for me to keep at least a little common ground with most of my friends and relatives, [...]
