In it, Océane joins Left Boy to cover Gloria Gaynor's 1978 "I Will Survive" - with a bit of a hip-hop twist courtesy. The man behind [...]

Something terrible happened for smokers two years ago in Europe: they banned smoking indoors. Luckily for Swiss-Germans, there exists a magical place where you can not only smoke inside, away from the cold, but you can also see great independent music acts from all over [...]

Reykjavík (via San Fransisco ) artist Low Roar , aka Ryan Karazija, has all the melancholy eccentricities we've come to expect from artists inspired by Iceland's beautifully rugged landscape and harsh, frigid winters. With an overall folky feel highlighted by electronic accents, the upcoming self-titled 12 track album, set for a November 1st release, is hauntingly breathtaking from start to finish. He has made available for free download the albums last track "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" which you can pick up below, then head over to [...]

High Places channels the spirit of school bus sing-a-longs, back country camping trips, and first prize science fair projects, while conjuring dreams of faraway places through the use of field recordings, contact mics on houshold items, wind instruments and electronic thingamabobs. Demo (2006) Try [...]
ok. So today was the first day of Triple J Unearthed radio. There is an absolute heap of hype for this thing, which, on the most part is fair enough. There is a bit of a problem in the uptake in digital radio in Australia, so I guess only time will tell. It is also [...]

So, we're getting swamped with buckets of water here on the East Coast. It's usually pretty easy to get bummed out when ample amounts of rain encroach on your daily or weekly activities. To counteract that inevitable feeling, I've decided to take this H2O-drenched month in stride and whip up a playlist to brighten my otherwise dreary and damp days with uplifting rain-related tunes. Who says the barometric pressure needs to define your mood for the day?! These 5 tracks are here to hopefully warm you up. [...]

Genre: ambient, folktronica Label: BEKO-DSL 2muchachos from Russia send us to each season an adequate soundtrack. So here, for the last summer days, two tracks on the prolific French BEKO label. As always, light and warm coloured ambient textures, tiny melodies and field recordings to make you feel comfortable (even if you sit in a stinky dark room with your mac book). ![[Introducing] – Silver Wren](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3679919_lg.jpg)
Tweet It's a rainy Saturday where I am, so what could be better than some ethereal psych-folk to pass the time? Luckily, Silver Wren is on hand to provide just that. The solo project of Gainsville, Florida-based Ross Campbell, Silver Wren started in March this year, and has already yielded two mini EPs. Ross has now taken the bulk of them, given it a bit of a polish, and released it as the five-track "Window In The Wreath". It's a pretty engrossing listen. [...]

The East London quintet, Dark Captain (formerly Dark Captain Light Captain), is set to release their second LP, Dead Legs & Alibis on October 17. The change in name doesn't mean a departure from the sound that made Miracle Kicker , their 2008 debut, such a great record. The first single, Submarines , laments over the difficulties of love. It's an airy, melancholy piece accented by delicate piano and wonderful guitar rhythms. Dark Captain will formally release Submarines next week, and we have an advanced copy to [...]
![[Introducing] – Digits](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3656228_lg.jpg)
Tweet Digits is the musical alter-ego of Toronto-based Alt Altman. Eagle-eyed readers will note that we recently featured Mr Altman in his capacity as one half of dreamy R&B duo Bad Passion , whose first EP should be arriving shortly. Listening to his solo output, it's clear how much of an influence he's had on their sound. Alt's been making music his whole life, although things really took off when he started with indie rockers The Ghost Is Dancing back in [...]

I'm very much an advocate of escapism in all forms. You can see hints of those deep-seeded desires hidden in my daily life—for example, the page in my journal comprised of a long list of places in the world I want to visit before I die, or how I sometimes procrastinate by perusing articles from the travel section of the New York Times. Having grown up out in rural New Hampshire, something about unplugging and venturing out into the unknown appeals to me on an almost spiritual level. So, it's only natural that I would also love music that features [...]

We've become well acquainted with mashups these past few years. From Danger Mouse to Girl Talk, the literal mashing of tracks and hooks from all a manner of genres has become all but commonplace. But listening to It's A Corporate World [...]

I've had the eponymous debut EP from Brixton duo Glyphs ( Facebook / SoundCloud ) on repeat for a good part of a month and still find myself having some real trouble describing their sound which draws influences from everything from folktronica to dubstep. Opening track track On & On reminds me a little of the delights I've always found in the electronic folk stylings of Tunng, but the beat they use behind that folk vocal melody has an almost tropical feel to it. Then whilst Little Pieces sounds fragile in places, [...]
