Summer Girlfriends Another day, another box of stolen pens. Like Bill Murray, we all survived Groundhog's Day, so let's get out on the town and live it up. We're talking great shows at The Burlington, Cole's and Panchos (or Township, if you like). Looks like at least six more weeks of rock to me. FRIDAY SUMMER GIRLFRIENDS Get some upbeat, jangly garage pop in [...]
I nearly had a heart attack last night. My heart was beating right out of my chest. The San Francisco defense was relentless, the NY Giants offensive line could not stop the rush. Eli Manning was knocked down 6 times. The 49ers could not get a third down conversion. The Giants Defense won the game. This is the Superbowl rematch everyone wanted to see. The Giants are hot. They have momentum. This reminds me of 2007. The Patriots want revenge. But their defense is shaky. It has been all season. Defense wins championships. [...]
Although my team (Green Bay Packers) was demolished last week by New York, I'm pretty amped about today's matchup between the 49ers and the Giants—but not just because of the game. If you watched last week's thriller between New Orleans and San Fran, you probably heard Future's " Tony Montana " playing in Candlestick Park before every 49ers kickoff. It would appear that the Niners have adopted the street banger as their fight song during this year's playoff run. As the 49ers were manhandling the Saints during the first half, I joked that the team would fly Future out to [...]

"Touchdown, touchdown, I think I'm Jerry Rice." -Lil' B (Swag Jerry Rice) Much to the chagrin of old, wrinkly football purists, players all over the NFL are putting their individuality on display by celebrating after scoring a touchdown or making a spectacular play. Last season the jerk , Dougie (including the worst Dougie I've ever seen) and the Cat Daddy were all hot commodities. But this season, there's a new dance that's all the rage-Lil' B's cookin' dance . Every week there's a new [...]

The Worst (Or Best?) Fake Soccer Injury
During an African Cup match between Equatorial Guinea and Senegal, Ekanga makes the case that he should have been nominated for an Oscar - Best Flop in a Football Match! You have to had it to him. In a sport where players are known for hilariously faking injuries and flopping and altogether being wussies, this is either the greatest performance or worst. Depending on your perspective about flopping. [via @slate ]
"If my mother put on a helmet and shoulder pads and a uniform that wasn't the same as the one I was wearing, I'd run over her if she was in my way. And I love my mother."
When I woke up, I thought it was raining. I could hear drops falling to the deck from the roof, but when I came downstairs, I saw it wasn't rain at all. It was the sound of snow melting from the eaves and the roof. It is 42° and will stay warm for the next few days. We are back in the middle of our strange winter. My headache is gone and my teeth have stopped aching. The Patriots' AFC game yesterday was the culprit which caused the pain. It was an amazing game, not a good game, [...]

Drew Brees: "To the Equipment Managers Who Rub Down Those Balls"
Last night, Saints quarterback Drew Brees broke Dan Marino's 27-year old single-season passing record after capping the game with a 9-yard touchdown pass. Brees ended the game with 5,087 yards on the season and still has one more game to play. Marino finished the 1984 season with 5,084 yards. Anyway, this is as fine a speech as you'll likely hear from a guy who just set an NFL record. What's crazy, is that another quarterback could also pass Marino's record this season. Tom Brady needs less than 200 yards passing in [...]

Rick Neuheisel Out at UCLA: The Prodigal Son Rejected
It's hard to say we didn't see this coming. After the 50-0 domination by USC over the Bruins, the head coach's short lease had run completely out. With his firing final, we can now look over the last four years and examine exactly what happened during the reign of Neuheisel, and the statistics are not [...]

Bookmarks: Internet stuff - Tim Gudgin
As part of his last day reading out the football scores , Tim Gudgin remembers the time he shared the job with Mark E Smith: Several fans have appeared alongside him, reading the results on the BBC's interactive service, most memorably and singularly, the Fall's Mark E Smith. "He knew the teams because he was keen on soccer," Gudgin says. "It was an idiosyncratic performance, partly because he'd had more than a little alcohol beforehand. I think we just about got away with it." -- Visit No Rock & Roll [...]
He can't stand up for falling down
Took this footage on my phone from this evening's Euro 2014 qualifier between Turkey and Croatia. In it, Turkish playmaker Hamit Altintop takes what I would have to declare to be the most outrageous dive I've ever seen perpetrated by a professional footballer (and I've seen Cristiano Ronaldo). There was no one within three feet of him! (Apologies for the rather shonky picture quality, by the way, but I literally filmed the video direct from my mobile phone while pointing it at the telly! Still, though, a couple of clicks later and it was uploaded to [...]
Free Mp3: Alligator Indian – Honey Eye Bee Leave Ewe
Alligator Indian are a surreal pop trio from from Asheville, North Carolina. Each song reminds me of something different, but I love them all! They describe themselves as: "a psychedelic crust-wave dreamcore avant-country&western garage pop experimental punk band". Have I woken up your interest? Well then check them out and download their track "Honey Eye [...]
