by Andrew Sacher Megafortress Megafortress (aka NYC musician Bill Gillim of Tigercity ) is releasing his self titled EP on January 31 via Ford & Lopatin's Mexican Summer imprint, Software. There's definitely a How to Dress Well vibe going on with Gillim's simultaneous understanding of ambient electronics and soaring falsetto vocals, but they differ in that Megafortress shies away from any type of beatwork, relying only on his voice, sampled bells, [...]
This year's annual Detroit Auto Show is currently in progress and, as usual, the latest innovations and updates are being announced. But holy sh*t, did Ford drop a bombshell yesterday [...]

"Great Pyramid" is the final statement on side A of Celebration's most recent LP, Hello Paradise. The band channels a card in the tarot that deals "the boss, the king, male influence and authority, planning, building, construction, seeking stability, ambition and confidence, tradition, order, and structure." The song begins with a simple question, "Hey Kingdom, where do your ambitions lie?" It concludes with Katrina Ford demanding you to "stand up...
An olde show review from two-thousand-ought-seven b y Matt Rogers: "The Black Keys? I ain't never met 'em. I ain't scared of 'em, though." When reminded that he had indeed met "those two white boys from Ohio," T-Model responded: "They play a different style of music. I'm playing the hard blues, and they can't play that. They play rock, and I don't like rock. They wants my style. Don't you think they don't now." [...]

Mexican Summer is issuing label's 100th release. The split single features Ford & Lopatin collaborations with Tamaryn ("Flying Dream") and Shannon Funchess ("Snakes"). "Snakes" b/w "Flying Dream" is out November 22.
Ford & Lopatin have teamed up with one of our favorite artists, Tamaryn, for a track which will be part of a split single for Mexican Summers' 100th release. The other track is also produced by Ford & Lopatin, with vocals from Light Asylum's Shannon Funchess. You can hear the Tamaryn voxed track, Flying Dream, below. Ford & Lopatin; Flying Dream (ft. Tamaryn)

Their 2011 album Channel Pressure was all queasy synthpop, like a bad-dream memory of '80s PBS science-film soundtracks, but Ford & Lopatin go in a couple of different directions on a new collaborative single. One track, "Snakes," features Light Asylum wailer and frequent !!! collaborator Shannon Funchess, and it's essentially a Eurodisco banger, but stripped back just enough to make it sound weird and wrong. The other, "Flying Dream," has vocals from dream-rock singer-songwriter Tamaryn, and it goes into a blissed-out float-pop zone. Both songs are excellent, and I'd take either one over anything on Channel Pressure [...]

David Ford is a throwback-in his own words, he's just a "whiney little Georgia boy singing the blues." And with song titles like "Liverpool" and "Song For The Republican Convention," he's doing nothing to hide that fact. His new EP is some great rock and roll. Makes me want to see him live. Which you can, by the way, below. The EP is, apparently, the first half of what will be his fourth album-to be released next summer. I'm digging it. Get it for under five bucks at Amazon . [...]

If you've seen The Searchers , The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (and I'm sure you have), or the beautiful views of Monument Valley with your own two eyes, chances are you know John Ford. Either way, you'll want to watch The American West of John Ford , the 1971 documentary about the director made just a few years before he passed away. Amazing footage of John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, and those southern Utah red rocks are well worth 51 minutes of your life. Watch the [...]
So, hey, remember that picture of Tom Cruise playing a hair metal dude in the upcoming Rock of Ages movie, and how unsettling it was? Well, this shit will scar you for life. See, Harrison Ford and his wife, Ally McBeal star Calista Flockhart, dressed up as hair metallers for Halloween this year, and, uh... [...]
Photo by Josh Lovseth Oregonians Adam and Eve and their son Donovan were just finishing packing up their campsite on Saturday afternoon as we rolled up and set up shop mid-trail. They'd spent the previous weekend in the woods for Pickathon and after a second weekend in a row among nature were now ready to find [...]

Somewhere on the rock and roll highway there is a bar. This bar is like a scene out of a Quentin Tarantino-meets-Wes Anderson film. In this bar they only drink flavored martinis, the women wear elbow length gloves and pointy glasses, and everyone smokes their cigarettes with cigarette holders. This bar has a jukebox that plays hits that crackle across the bar's speakers. The hip kids bob their heads while the irreverent one's dance like nobody is watching. Over time this jukebox has seen many hits from the likes of Eilen Jewell , Carolyn Mark [...]
The digital radio race in the U.S. continues to intensify at a mind boggling pace. There were a few major developments last week, the first being Buick's announcement that Pandora will be a standard feature in all models starting next year. This is an extraordinary vote of confidence and if they see success here, ...
