Well if you can't block off all of July 12 – 14, then this new info will certainly help you out. Forecastle just announce their [...]

photo courtesy of Myspace (.com) To keep up with the hype of last year's Coachella surprise of Hologram Tupac, this year forecastle will have none other than Hologram Ja Rule. Having a hologram of Ja Rule isn't necessary since he is still alive, very much unlike Tupac who we all know isn't alive in any way whatsoever ( wink wink ). However, Ja Rule has been in jail for various reasons off and on since 2007, thus he is not able to perform in person. He does have a release date of [...]

Earlier today, Pitchfork announced that The Breeders (playing their album Last Splash in its entirety), And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, and Swans have all been added to their 2013 festival. This year's edition, taking place at Chicago's Union Park from July 19th - 21st, already boasted an intriguing mix of headliners with R. Kelly, Bjork and Belle and Sebastian. Many lesser known names were also added to the lineup, including El-P, Killer Mike, TNGHT, Chairlift, Sky Ferreira, Rustie, Mac DeMarco, Foxygen, Angel Olsen, Trash Talk, and Tree. Joanna [...]

Photo of Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys when they played Forecastle in 2009. We love and have supported the Forecastle Festival in Louisville for many years now and today they unveiled yet another great lineup for the upcoming summer. Akron, Ohio's own Black Keys lead yet another diverse and excellent lineup that also includes the return of The Flaming Lips, who lit Louisville on fire back in 2010. Here is the full list of confirmed acts for the 2013 Forecastle Festival. [...]
The Black Keys at Forecastle 2009 | The Avett Brothers at The Dame in 2007 This year's Forecastle lineup is bonkers. It's so great that I couldn't even correctly pick out the headlining bands because the first six or seven names are usually headliners. Headlining this year's Forecastle Festival are The Black Keys, The String [...]
Jesse Cohen & Eric Emm released their debut LP, Mixed Emotions, this year to high praise elevating their already rising profile even further. We retrace their steps starting out with their earlier post-punk & new wave bands, the remix beginnings, and trying to grow slowly in the age of overnight explosions.
Justin Townes Earle has lived more lives in his one than most of us will ever see. From substance abuse to his storied parental problems, it's all been well documented in his songs. After grabbing critical acclaim on 20102s Harlem River Blues, Earle is back with Nothing's Gonna Change The Way You Feel About Me Now, a musical sendoff to that old Stax and Memphis sound with lyrics heartfelt and tattooed deep beyond his sleeves. We talk age, parenting, roots, and much much more backstage at Forecastle 2012.

Bob. Now here we are, closing the books on Forecastle X . Like a Christmas list we wrote down our wants and desires of musical acts on which to set our sights to on a schedule and posted it on our timeline (will saying 'timeline' date this post?) for all of our Facebook "friends" to see. Did you get everything you wished for? I sure hope you did. If not everything, then at least the cool stuff, right? Bob, pictured above, got what he wanted. He wanted Jeff Tweedy to pick him up by the [...]

It's appropriate to lead off with a Jacket pic. Forecastle X Day 2. Let's do this. And on the second day Forecastle brought rain. Or, as a man under the highway dodging rain with us said, "God's washing dishes". It was said in such a matter of fact manner from this unknown person who was just trying to get yet another cigarette. After a short spell of said dishwater, the delayed festival gates let loose an eager, wet mob of music lovers. I must commend the Forecastle crew on the way delays were handled. Everything seemed [...]

#ForecastleHangover Flying Lotus pictured above Yes, Forecastle Hangover. Not in a literal sense... well, maybe in a literal sense from Saturday night... but hungover in the sense that we were exhausted, dehydrated, had physical discomforts, aches, pains, etc... and we would most certainly do it all over again in a heartbeat. A heartbeat, or whatever beat Flying Lotus was treating us all to on Friday night. Typically people partying and playing loud music under a highway gets the fuzz involved like in Free Willy (yeah, I [...]
This was one of my most anticipated sets of the festival. Neko Case is a real treat live, and this time I had it planned out so that I could catch just a song or two shy of her entire set. She took the stage as the sun began its decent, but apparently not far [...]
Of all of the great moments to happen at this, the 10th edition, of the Forecastle Festival, sitting with both Andrew Bird and Ben Sollee was one of the most special. Bird is in the middle of promoting Break It Yourself and Sollee ramping up to his next, Half Made Man and we had a chance to grab them at the same time for a lesson is songwriting from two of the genre's most unique.
I think Sean and I would both agree that Day 3 of Louisville, Kentucky's Forecastle Music Festival might have been our favorite. Not only because it boasted the most musical acts of any day, but also because it was a day full of surprises and fulfilled expectations from some of our favorite bands. Walk The Moon, Charles Bradley & [...]
Day 2 of Louisville's tenth Forecastle Music Festival began with heavy rain, and a two hour delay in the day's schedule. But the gates opened wide in no time, and the My Morning Jacket-headlined list of acts went onwards without a hitch. Here is a sample of the sights and sounds you missed from Day [...]

If you've only listened to Kelly Hogan and Neko Case's music, you've never had the full picture. Sweet and beautiful as those albums are, you need only to peruse their twitter feeds to discover how hilarious both can be. Hogan has a new record and Neko is working on one, so we were lucky to get to talk to both of them at once, running the conversational gamut of songwriting, penis envy, spiders, Country Living, bourbon and juicing, being a sideman, being a man, not being a man, and lots more.
They say that if you lose a sense, your other senses get stronger. For example, if you're blind, the story goes that you hear better than most people. It seemed apropos, then, that your intrepid reporting team here at Consequence of Sound ended up sharing our hotel for Louisville, Kentucky’s Forecastle Music Festival with an entire convention of blind people: They spend their lives listening hard, and though we’re able to see, we also put a lot of focus on the aural—especially this weekend. Luckily Forecastle is focused on sound as well, and for their [...]
I like to start festivals with some high-energy acts to help the transition between the "real" world and the festival world. Tanlines were a good act to start off with, but they really blew a hole in my theory of starting off with a high energy act. They started their set with a solo number [...]
