Our friend Kevin's probably going to hate the fact that I can't get over my infatuation with all things Comet Gain related, but what can I say, I'm a sucker for the band. However, this track only features part of the group, as well as members of Crystal Stilts , so that should garner me some hipster cred, right? The track below is from the Butterbean Crypt EP , which was released [...]
It's the afternoon prior to the second of Fortuna Pop 's 15th birthday shows at the Scala, and label founder Sean Price is in relaxed form when we meet at The Lexington, a mere stone's throw from the venue of the evening's festivities to follow. Surprisingly relaxed, seeing as he's just had the opening act of the evening pull out owing to illness. He'll remain the picture of laid-back calm for the duration of our meeting (despite having to repeatedly break off to find a replacement band), unleashing an impish grin and a pair of [...]

UK Band Evans the Death (Named after the undertaker in Dylan Thomas's Milk Wood) sound like the bionic version of the Primitives : bigger, stronger, faster. Their debut single came out last month on Fortna POP! It's a double A-Side, something that usually leaves me scratching my head because nine times out of ten one of the songs is clearly B-Side material. No such problem with this record. Threads has a deadpan vocal from singer Katherine Whitaker over a taught and twisting guitar. Whitaker sings, "You put the fear of God in me, Why [...]
NYC-based moody lo-fi band Crystal Stilts has a new cool video for their single, "Shake the Shackles". The track was released in October via Slumberland/ Fortuna Pop! Crystal Stilts are letting a mysterious atmosphere slip in their EP In Love With Oblivion, and the song and accompanying video "Shake the Shackles" are no different. The [...]

You can't argue with the fact that The Ladybug Transistor have stayed the distance. This is their seventh album since it all started for the Brooklyn band back in the 90s. And when they lost their drummer, San Fadyl, to a severe Asthma attack in 2007, it left the remaining members asking themselves what happens next. Well 'Clutching Stems' happened, an album that is so pleasant and unassuming, it's hard to muster a bad word to say about it – though we may have to. From the off the record stands wholeheartedly in the twee pop camp – [...]

Alright, having just written a big long post advising people not to be jealous... I have to confess, this event makes me more than a little envious. I know I am a hypocrite, but I didn't think it would be this obvious this soon! There is an Independent Label Market taking place in London this weekend, where the owners of independent record labels man stalls selling their own releases, and I want to be there to shop and I would very much like to be there to peddle our own wares. All the major indies - Beggars Group [...]

Crystal Stilts return with a set of rolling garage tunes hauled through the backyards of the Velvet Underground, Jim Morrison and Joy Division. The good news is it survives the ordeal with few telling scars, making for a record full of psyched out and overcast pop. Front-man Brad Hargett may boast some Ian Curtis-like tones, yet they are surprisingly at home with the strong current of upbeat rhythms to be found here. So as the thick undertow of spewing keyboards and downer vocals tip the scales one way, the snare-addicted beats and sprightly, strummed electrics re-address the balance. [...]

D'autres en revanche, à l'instar de The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart , ont séduit [...]

We have read the headlines time after time: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart caught raiding the 90s shoegaze archive. But can't we move on now? Sure, Bowlegs can hear the influences – we can also hear a set of songs bursting with colour, shimmering with pop and yearning with love. The production is so warm it might save you money on the heating bill. Its broad strokes and over-friendly gestures continuously fill the airwaves. As for the songs, they might not all hit the mark, but they won't give up trying. 'Heaven's Gonna Happen [...]
Crystal Stilts have dropped another track from their forthcoming sophomore release, In Love with Oblivion . The LP is due on 4/11 via Fortuna Pop. Is this track, "Through the Floor," for you? Find out in this review. Review: Crystal Stilts- Through the Floor Stream: Crystal Stilts- Through the Floor -
Tweet "Never Kill a Secret" is the title of the new EP from my old favourites, The Primitives . Reunions are usually disappointing, and I was extremely sceptical when I put this new EP on. Thankfully, The Primitives do not disappoint, and they deliver 4 really good popsongs on this EP. They sound a bit different than I expected, and this is a good thing in my book. The songs still sound like The Primitives, but it does not sound like an old band trying [...]

Allo Darlin' is a fairly new band, which is somewhat hard to believe after hearing "The Polaroid Song". It has the sound of early 90s twee pop artists like, well, Talulah Gosh and Heavenly and Tender Trap. This is no surprise when you learn that they share a member (Elizabeth) with Amelia Fletcher's Tender Trap. And there are a few other bands in the mix - Hexicon (Mikey and Paul) and Moustache of Insanity (Bill), among others. "The Polaroid Song" is the first single off the band's recent self-titled LP. In this video, [...]

"Kiss Your Lips" By Allo Darlin' The ukulele, it must be said, has never been my favourite musical instrument. This probably stems from a deep rooted childhood aversion to uke playing toothsome Lancastrian comics, a fact which possibly clouded my view of Australian expatriate Elizabeth Morris's musical venture Allo Darlin' before I'd even heard a note. Apparently Morris started song writing on a uke after moving to London in 2005 but happily my foolish and narrow minded assumption that the resulting songs [...]

New Yorkers The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart have released their new video, Say No To Love (which you can check out below), of which the single will be out on Fortuna Pop on 5th July in the UK. Still touring like crazy touring people, they will appear at several European festivals this summer before returning to the studio in New York to record their second album. The dates include a much-anticip... Read more..
The Pipettes return with their second single from Earth VS The Pipettes

Four songs into Allo Darlin' s debut album, frontwoman and songwriter Elizabeth Morris begins the joy-filled 'Kiss Your Lips' by telling of her and her paramour's visit to a Parisian fairground, where after candyfloss and popcorn he decides to "prove to me your manliness" and win her a teddy bear. This, it must be admitted off the bat, is the sort of detail that still causes a lot of suspicion amongst many otherwise right-thinking folk. You could, if being uncharitable towards such things, also cite that Australian emigre Morris favours the ukelele, elsewhere on the album namechecks [...]
