By this point we know that Weezer have a penchant for doing cover versions of songs, we've heard them do Toni Braxton's "Unbreak My Heart" , Radiohead's "Paranoid Android" along with them playing Wheatus' "Teenage Dirtbag" at the last two festival appearances I've witnessed them at. So we know they're not afraid to try new things and cover whatever they god damn feel like. Footage appeared online over the weekend of them covering LA boys Foster The People and their track "Pumped Up Kicks". An unusual choice some might say as Foster The [...]

With "Pumped Up Kicks", LA indie poppers Foster The People shot themselves ( pun intended ) into the stratosphere of immediate success, garnering primo late-night gigs and impressive festival spots . Now, though, the most concrete proof of their certifiable fame comes in the form of the ultimate validation: being covered by Weezer . Courtesy of Stereogum , check out the legendary band cover the newbies at last night's Weezer show from Costa Mesa, CA's Pacific Amphitheater. Foster The People have released the video for their new single ‘Helena Beat' which band member Mark Foster describes as “ 'Lord of the Flies' meets 'Mad Max.’
Foster the People are getting a little on my nerves. (They'd be on your nerves too if every time you logged into Spotify, a snippet of 'Pumped Up Kicks' always wormed its way into your speakers.) Thankfully there's a new video for 'Helena Beat' to take my attention away from that other song. Temporarily... Click here to view the embedded video. Coco reviewed the band's debut album, 'Torches', released in the UK late last month. Read her review here.
It's too bad the new video from Foster the People already has a name via its song title, Helena Beat, because this one ought to be called Lords of the Flies Beyond Thunderdome. Nevertheless, Foster the People continue to prove that there is more to the band than their buzzy hit Pumped Up Kicks, as each successive single holds up to their first. So much so in fact, that I suspect we'll see Foster the People grace a lot of year end best-of lists come December with their album Torches . [...]
Warning: before pressing play on the video, turn down the sound or else it will hurt your ears. It's weird that the mainstream has finally caught up with the likes of Jim Carroll of The Irish Times, who was telling us about how great Foster The People were last summer. [Read more]
Not unlike the songs on Foster the People's hit-laden debut album "Torches," director Ace Norton's video for the single "Helena Beat" takes a little of this, a little of that and a little of something else, and runs very far with it, in a "Mad Max"/"Lost Boys" sort of way. What, the label's video budget didn't allow for a Mel Gibson cameo? Oh well. It could be said that Mark Foster's bright, hook-laden electro represents a glimmer of hope on today's post-apocalyptic musical landscape. But that would be going overboard, wouldn't it? ||| Live: [...]

Foster The People are taking off their "Pumped Up Kicks" and strapping on their combat boots in the post-apocalyptic video for "Helena Beat". The video combines elements from My Chemical Romance's current Danger Days shtick and HBO's The Walking Dead , mixed with MGMT's trippiness, and starring a bunch of super-aggressive juvenile delinquents.
