Dark Mean was one of the first bands to make it onto the "Find of The Week" feature almost two years ago when this website was in its infancy and we were still getting our feet wet with this whole "blogging" thing. At that time Dark Mean had something that one might loosely be able to call a "website" and there was a MySpace page. Quite a bit has changed for this Ontariorian (something tells me that's not right) trio. There's now a website that anyone would be happy to have, a debut, self titled, full length album and [...]
"Their first EP frankencottage saw Dark Mean succeed in exploring their disparate harmonious objectives to critical and personal reward. This winter their second wondrous offering music box will scatter into public view, expanding on these established themes. Songs from both records will collectively help form their first LP The Constant K Determines the Ultimate Fate of the Universe later in the year. The title acts as homage to playwright Rebecca Nada-Rajah's production, which was the original inspiration for the formation of Dark Mean". Going by the theme and [...]

I am out on the road this week with the Mount Righteous folks touring through the midwest, so I decided to write a bunch of these short "MP3 of the Day" posts so you guys wouldn't be left completely SubEx-less for the next week. Today I am in DUBUQUE, IOWA and today's MP3 is by Dark Mean. This EP is the first in a series of three that will be revealed over the next year and a half, and then will be compiled into a full-length recording, "The Constant K Determines the Ultimate Fate of the [...]

You Should Know Fellow music bloggers will attest that opening your daily inbox can be overwhelming. When you're perusing hundreds of bands, sometimes the music starts to sound a little samey and unfortunately you find yourself moving the bulk of your mail to the trash. Hamilton Ontario's Dark Mean represent the rare exception of a band that I took one listen to and knew I was on board. The trio's debut 4-song EP Frankencottage is an eclectic hodgepodge of folk rock, electonic elements, and pop. The [...]

This short EP (only four tracks long) was a surprising treat. I say surprising, but having heard nothing about Canadian band Dark Mean I was approaching this record with no preconceptions at all. As such, the quality of this EP was only surprising in that I first listened to it whilst trawling through a batch of less-than-average-quality records I'd been sent for review. You'd think that hearing music with no expectations or biases would mean you'd be more susceptible to a records merits, but I often find that I am actually more critical than usual. An [...]

Glad to have been gently guided towards a curiously astounding EP by Canadian trio `Dark Mean`. Without dictating their bio word for word, the band was initially constructed to compose and perform a soundtrack for a play by Rebecca Nada-Rajah. One year later and very satisfied with the play`s success, so much so, a full length album is planned taking the name from the play that`s responsible for this fantastic collaboration`The Constant K Determines The Ultimate Fate Of The Universe` . "The debut EP, Frankencottage, showcases the band's evolving worldview on the [...]
