EARL SWEATSHIRT has been flying under the radar for a bit but he’s hollered right on back with promo track ‘Chum’ off his upcoming debut EP. Earl laces a personal story of broken families and identity confusion with a melancholy drawl loading on the weight of his words. It’s a hypnotic listen with the steady lyrics rolling over scattered beats and keyboard loop. There are the deep raspy vocals and home grown fuzzy bass of early OFWGKTA tracks, as well as classic talk of spliffs, [...]

*Late Pass* While the jury is still out on Odd Future and where they will land on the list of talented super groups. Their member, Earl Sweatshirt has been on a roll. His verses on " Super Rich Kids " and " Oldie " are remarkable and "Chum," can be added to that list. More of poetry then a flat out rap, we hear Sweatshirt talk about his childhood and his feeling on being famous. Stream below.

In all forms of art and expression, sometimes less is more. There's an art to getting right to the point, chopping off all the extra and presenting an idea as succinctly as possible. In music, this often means the sub-2:00 song. These tracks often get dismissed as interludes or filler, but sometimes they're anything but that. Here are the 25 best songs that clock in at 2:00 or less. Click “next” or hit shift+right to read/listen...
In By The Numbers, FADER looks at a big record release and breaks it down in basic digits. This week, we're actually taking on two: Trash Talk's 119 and MellowHype's Numbers, which dropped simultaneously this ... read more

With the recent release of DJ Drama's Quality Street Music , we (finally) got to hear what happens when Waka Flocka and Tyler, the Creator link up " I'ma Hata ." There was quite a bit of commentary regarding how well Tyler meshed with Drama and Waka. We'd known Tyler was a fan of Waka for a while now, but the resulting song had us asking: does that appreciation make for a great pairing? How does the Odd Future camp, who collaborates internally more often than with artists outside of their circle, stack [...]

Odd Future A$AP Mob Black Hippy Pro Era The Rebirth Of The Hip Hop Group Since Odd Future blew up last year they’ve been all over the music world’s radar. Some love them and others hate them but one thing both sides can’t deny is Hip-Hop groups are finally back for good. Shortly after dropping the first part , Noisey comes through with next part of their documentary following Odd Future through New York City. This time around, we get some concert footage from Frank Ocean at Terminal 5, Trash Talk going wild at a show of their own, and a bunch of other random antics. It is tough to imagine how big these guys got in such a short time, but they have somehow managed to do it. Not only that, but they only seem to be grower faster and stronger than ever. Frank Ocean - Channel Orange Released: July 10, 2012 Label: Def Jam Purchase: iTunes | Insound | Amazon Frank Ocean 's Channel Orange is a nightmare of an album to review, not because it's a bad piece of work or even because of the circumstances that surrounded its release (read: Frank Ocean broke the ice about his still unclear sexuality just days before the album's release with a painful recounting [...]

Earl Sweatshirt shared some exciting news via Twitter (which appears to be the current forum for breaking news) yesterday: the features on his highly-anticipated follow-up album to EARL . Those listed in the series of tweets were Tyler, The Creator, Frank Ocean, Domo Genesis, and The Internet, as well as Pharrell, The Neptunes, Casey Veggies, The Alchemist, BADBADNOTGOOD, Thundercat, Vince Staples, Ommas Keith, Christian Rich, and Samiyam. What do you think of this star-studded line-up? ( Complex )

With Purple Naked Ladies , The Internet stepped outside of the usual chaos of Odd Future and built a little bubble of their own. Combining elements of neo-soul, hip-hop, and electronic, the product of Syd and Matt Martian's collaboration creates its own kind of chaos, but there's a peacefulness about it that sets them apart. We paid a visit to the duo to talk about their music, coming up with Odd Future, their strategy of dropping free music, and what else is cooking within the OFWGKTA camp. By Mustafa Abubaker [...]

Frank Ocean put on an incredible performance this Thursday, July 26th, at Terminal 5 in NYC. Usually, the venue itself bums me out because a lot of times sound gets swallowed, although I have had some wonderful experiences there (namely Animal Collective and A-Trak ). Despite this, though, Frank Ocean conquered all doubts. Ocean chose perhaps the classiest approach to his show; no opener, on at 9:00pm and not a minute after. His voice was, quite literally, [...]

It must've been tough for Frank Ocean to come out as a bagelphile. Looks like it hasn't hurt album sales, with channel ORANGE holding strong at #4 on Billboard behind Nas, Zach Brown Band & Kidz Bop Volume 22. What did you expect from Odd Future? Did you think they were actually going to sit down, put on straight faces, and speak seriously about Frank Ocean's recent coming out letter ? Highly unlikely. Instead, they flip this interview into a comedy skit, pretending that Frank Ocean has just admitted that he loves bagels. Watch as Tyler and Earl go back and forth about finding out that after years of denying his love for bagels, Frank finally comes out and says it: "Yeah, I like bagels." [...]

Frank Ocean performed last night at Los Angeles' Wiltern in support of his CoS Top Star-earning debut, channel ORANGE . Throughout the set, Ocean offered a couple of surprises with his own sultry cover of Prince's "When You Were Mine" (off 19802s Dirty Mind ) and a guest appearance from Earl Sweatshirt on "Super Rich Kids". Watch fan footage of both cuts below (via Pitchfork ), plus see the rest of his tour schedule. And, in case you missed it, read our review of channel ORANGE here [...]

During his tour stop in Los Angeles last night, Frank Ocean brought out his OFWGKTA buddy Earl Sweatshirt to perform Channel Orange highlight "Super Rich Kids". And to say the crowd was delighted would be a massive understatement. Seriously, just listen to everyone collective lose their sh*t . The footage below, but I want to also note that Ocean almost topped the charts based on his iTunes sales of Channel Orange alone. Clap for the young man, will ya? [ via ]
