"and let's be honest which band have you heard over the last three years that didn't remind you of some other band from the last three years? If you come up with something keep it to yourself cause they probably suck."

I didn't watch this year's Grammys . Instead I caught a blow by blow account on Twitter, which is just like being there. Yes, millions gathered to essentially Mystery Science Theater the shit out of the Grammys. Some of it was even funny. Steven Hyden of Grantland got this gem of a jab in: "Did you know they set jazz musicians on fire to keep Katy Perry's hands warm backstage?" What was even funnier (meaning sadder) was the number of people who still buy into the concept of the Grammys. They sent out heartfelt congrats to Mumford & Sons [...]

Adele added another award to her collection. Gotye added another minute to the 15 he already has by winning three statues . Fun. 's Nate Ruess and Frank Ocean each sounded out of key. Katy Perry 's breasts appeared to have tripled in size. Justin Timberlake returned with a standout live performance that included a full orchestra and Jay-Z . And Kelly Clarkson admitted on-air that she doesn't know who Miguel is. These were just a few of the [...]

Rihanna, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Beyonce - Getty From nominees, to performers, to presenters, to fans, many of music's biggest names walked the red carpet at the 55th annual Grammy Awards, which went down tonight (February 10) in Los Angeles. Some of the ladies strolling the red carpet included a red-hot Rihanna, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift , both opting to show tons of cleavage, Beyonce in a black and white pant suit, Kelly Rowland looking stunning in a sheer black number, a dazzling Carrie Underwood [...]

Kanye West, Jay-Z, Drake, Miguel, Trent Reznor, Skrillex, and Usher were among the early winners at the 2013 Grammy Awards' pre-show telecast. Kanye West and Jay-Z's Watch the Throne collaboration "Niggas in Paris" won both Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. Meanwhile, Drake's Take Care won Best Rap Album. Miguel's "Adorn" won Best R&B Song and Usher's "Climax" won Best R&B Performance. Skrillex was the big winner in the Dance/Electronica category. Bangarang won Best Dance/Electronica Album and [...]
John Mayer chatted with Rolling Stone for an interview that ran the gamut, and while it clearly wasn't an interview with that controversial John Mayer of yore who was subservient to his id, it was still a fascinating read. Mayer talked about everything from his throat surgery to his unpredictable relationship with Katy Perry to his diminishing sales. But the best part, for us, was how he absolutely gushed about his pal Frank Ocean . "Frank is such an [...]
It's hard to believe another year in pop music has is almost over — and what a wild and crazy one 2012 turned out to be! From surprising new couples, reconciliations and engagements (ahem, Chavril ), to K-pop dance crazes and viral music videos (thanks, Carly Rae Jepsen ), bizarre new haircuts to bittersweet farewells, Grammy sweeps and ghost sex ; we can only wonder how 2013 will top the last 12 months. To bid a fond adieu [...]
The list-mongers over at Forbes have unleashed one more list of rich people before the year ends, this one their "30 Under 303 roundup comprising 15 lists of 30, which is, like, so many rich people. The music category is filled with just about every big name in pop right now, and it's frightening to think that some of these youngsters have been in the spotlight for nearly a decade and are still in their twenties. Pop's leading ladies Taylor Swift , [...]

Welcome to the end of 2012. And possibly the world as a whole if you're so inclined to believe. Once again, we've taken the stray thoughts that fell through the cracks in our Annual Report and compiled them into one (hopefully) comedic list. As my esteemed colleague Jeremy Larson wrote last year , "Year-end summaries, lists, recaps, and reports are just study guides for an exam that’s never happening, you guys ." True, but by listing things and poking a little fun, we're doing our part to remind you that the music industry can be [...]

Despite all the big-name performers and presenters, the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursdaywere generally underwhelming. There's usually a singular "goosie" experience (for instance, Adele last year) or an instant headline (the Kanye interruption). But this year there were no such capital-M Moments. That's not to say there weren't some truly enjoyable moments. Head below to catch what we singled out as our five favorite and five least favorite parts of the show. 5 [...]
