Freak Folk, Bedroom Folk New ep from the freak folk, bedroom folk outfit Vacation. I skipped two releases but they sound still the same. This time they present coverversion by The Cure, Neil Young, Guided by Voices and well, I expected a Joy Division coverversion but all I get is some Lana Del Ray. DEFUQ. Hahaha... Bedroom Folk, Laptop Folk Another one by Nate Henricks - where everyone records lofi albums on old retro tape maschines, he is recording through the mic on his mac, using garage band... The quality and complexity is quite impressing. Some overdrive here and there, but it's ok. Nate Henricks' music oscillate between plain folk songs and noisy sound experiments or instrumentals. We do receive a lot of varied music here at The Network, and when Keshco sent us a track from their latest album Futile Peace Offering , and described their styles as "psychedelia, synthpop, bedsit folk, library music etc" I was keen to check out the album which is available from the 23seconds Netlabel. I found this, the first track, a lovely song about travelling on a bus, and felt I should share it. Reminds me of The Small Faces way back, and more recently Toy Horses . [...]

Perhaps the most moving song I heard in 2011 was "The Shrine / An Argument" by Fleet Foxes.

Genre: Folk, Singer-Songwriter This was recommended to me by Nick Castell . Heidi Harris is from Brooklyn, NY and play some kind of folk music. A bit freak folk, a bit so called new weird america, what ever this mean. This shorty is made with a cigar box guitar and I've got nothing in mind to compare it to something. So check yourself. I like it. Now it's time for me to take a nap in a foxhole [ This is the summary, read the whole story on Website ]

Genre: quirky lofi bedwrooom folk Short and really entertaining record. It's as colorful and toxic, lovely and deadly as the cover suggest. Experimental collages and sound effects paired with nice lovely folk songs. Really enjoyable. Check Rabbit Lullaby Pt. II and Flood! 8/10 [ This is the summary, read the whole story on Website ]

Genre: Acid Folk "Hey Mr. Tambourine men play some backwards guitar for me." This would sum up Brisbane based Marc Cheeseman's music... partly. Good seventies influenced acid folk songs, where acid is the backward electric guitar, some reverbed flutes and soundeffects wrapped around great timeless bedroom folk music with some strong moments. Genre: Tape Music, Folktronica, Freak Folk Label: Lille Kommune (DK) Awesome, weird and creative music from Denmark. This is kind of an anthology over a period of ten years. It's recorded on (4 track) tape-recorders only. I suppose they used samplers somehow, but maybe they cut tape-loops the old way. Anyway - the music is a great mix of tape-manipulations, loop experimentation and folky parts [ This is the summary, read the whole story on Website ]

Genre: american primitive, acoustic guitar, freak folk Label: oakhill records The Dove Azima is the new moniker of Zachary Hay who released a private press record as Bronze Horse last year.
