I love Freeez 's 'I.O.U.', it's a track with a lot of memories for me. SO bearing in mind I['m going to be over critical about any reworks of the track, I have to say Augustin 's Disco edit really works. Augustin has chopped the track up and given it a 21st century dancefloor makeover. Some of the beats are a little rough when listening on headphones but I'm sure they would go down a stormed in the club. The tracks got a nice build to it too, definitely one to drop. [...]

Another classic covered by Beverley Knight on her tribute album to the genre of British soul, Soul UK . This time it's a big funk disco-tinted classic from a little-known band Freeez. This track needed revival and thanks to Bev for bringing it to the forefront of pop music. It's a swinging gem with great vocals laden by one of the best singers of our time! This great fervor for soul from the UK is growing as this scour for more of this nasty beat continues. Here we see the maestro John Rocca at his best with great lyrics and a shaking disco reverb that will get up on your feet and leave you waiting for a mirrorball revival. Ridiculously infectious camp 80s pop from freeez and produced by Arthur Baker. This one just keeps giving funky as shit basslines, amazing grooves and vocal licks...the special mix goes all Yamaha talkbox on us aswel.... You just can't help but dance like your the missing member of Wham. Kinda a last tune of the night anthem...a cheesy I..O....UUUUuuuUUU. FREEEZ | I.O.U. (SPECIAL MIX)

John Rocca killed this record. In fact, it was a number one hit on the US club play chart in 1984. Prior to this record John was the lead singer of the group Freeez who posted their number one hit "I.O.U." in 1983. Rocca went on to produce many bands, but charted his last number one hit "Shine" in 1993 with the group Midi Rain. Hope you enjoy the record as much as I do! I'd forgotten what a fantastic song Freeez's IOU is, until hearing it again on the radio the other day. In fact it was so good that, after peaking at #2 in the UK charts in 1983, a slightly pointless remix of it (featuring some rather cursory scratching at the start and not much else to set it apart from the original), reached the top 20 again just three and a half years later. Well I never. And just check out the video! It's an 80s obsessive's dream! BMXs, robotics, body popping (unless robotics and body popping [...]

John Rocca formed the British jazz-funk band Freeez in the late 1970s. They released their first album Southern Freeez in 1981. John Rocca also recorded as Midi Rain and Zone Runners. Freeez - Southern Freeez Freeez - Mariposa Freeez on Top of the Pops:

These may have been more fitting for Valentines Day. This 1982 single by UK jazz-funk band Freeez was re-released in '84 on the Freeez Greatest Hits LP, Anti-Freeez. Here are your beats to move your feets on this fine Friday; a couple of Aussie electro bliss moments from Faux Pas and So I'm Jo, some Dave Wrangler mixes and mash ups, a Sir Billy '80s industrial edit and a nice dubstep remix of Horace Andy & Ashley Beedle. The three oldies are a disco classic from the O'Jays, an old school hip hop joint by Sugar Daddy and a sweet slice of primo '80s Britfunk
