Tweet Tomorrow, Team SGTMT are being sent on a training course. This one is about time management; our owners have looked at the blog and decided we can be more productive. " Find more good music, post more good music, WRITE SOMETHING GOOD! " We protested and, well it all got a bit out of hand, but they threatened to remove our Angel Delight rights. So we're going. To Peterborough. *Sigh*. Not only do we have to go on the course, we've been set some 'pre-course [...]
A track called 'Vibin' had me stop dead in my tracks last night. It was one of those "who is this..!?!?" moments. I was pulled into the steadiness of the track and although pretty soon I could predict it's motions, I got drawn into the flow and atmosphere of the track and suddenly I was lost in between the vocal cut ups and bells and an unpredictability grew. I then went home and played the track about 6 times and also listened to their others. Seriously get me to a gig. If you love feel good, super chill, [...]
Propeller "Don't be Sorry Again" Greg Randall and Will Anderson are Propeller, born from the ashes of Varsity Drag, The Lemonheads and Unbalanced. This is the newest release full of crunchy guitars and dense rock rhythms. "Nothing" has solid hook and hand claps and it will dig its way into your brain. And each tune has the same sweet indie rock quality, so no filler here. My only pet peeve here is the vocals are a bit buried, almost disappearing into the instrumentation. Best of all this album is a FREE download! Fans [...]

Tweet Since 20002s Animal Magic LP, Bonobo has been one of Team SGTMT 's go-to-guys for quality electronica. Today, a mysterious countdown on his website has finished ticking and delivered a free download of his Cirrus track which has been causing waves in his DJ sets and on the internet web: We love this man, known as Simon Green to his mum, and his [...]

Tweet So apparently, Birmingham has something going on. Apparently, there are some people in Birmingham that are making music that's really quite tasty. Apparently, people are watching these people play music in venues for listening to live music. This puzzles me. I used to live in Birmingham and I was once in a band. We played in some of these "live music venues" and nobody was there, apart from the wife. I have always assumed that the lack of crowd [...]

Tweet Which night was Banger Night at SGTMT again? It's Wednesdays now, starting this week. How To Dress Well 's & It Was U began life as a slow soulful 4/4 breaks number on his Total Loss LP released in September, and previously as a single come to think of it. Here, once label mate Doss has had his mits on it, it's an anthemic hands-in-the-air drum n bass tinged bass monster. We freaking love it: [...]

Tweet SGTMT are big fans of Tourist aka Brighton's Will Phillips . We *loved* his remix of Sharon Van Etten 's We Are Fine and his Placid Acid EP , and tonight he's let us have a freebie. A wonderful freebie. This is Your Girl : We love that irreverent lead melody, chopped vocals and 8-bit bass. It's like it's not bloody freezing and wet [...]

Tweet The White Album are firm favourites of SGTMT. Party because they have amazing beards but mostly because they're purveyors of some of the finest progressive folk known to folk kind. Back last month we stated the following: Their sound boasts the rare quality of being warmly intimate and affectionate and yet within a framework of cavernous, wintry melancholy; like hot chocolate round a forest campfire on a cold winters evening. I'm proud of that [...]

Tweet It's a wonderful day isn't it? The sun is streaming through the SGTMT Headquarters Listening Room windows and we're happy summer is still with us. It's not even half past nine and we've already had our breakfast and are preparing to go and have a picnic, a proper summer activity, before visiting a museum where nothing is labelled. (We know what you're thinking, what is the point of a museum where nothing is labelled? Perhaps it's the opportunity to take along [...]

Tweet Since when is an album allowed to be just seven tracks long? Seven tracks is a long EP in our books, not an album. Especially when one of the songs is a remix of one of the other songs. Lots of people are at it, and we suppose we only mention it on this occasion because Bear Mountain 's new XO EP LP is so good we want there to be more of it. Bear Mountain is [...]

Tweet Here's another of those things that we're really late to. We don't care though. If it's good, it's good, even if it's not hot off the press. Jesca Hoop was born in California and lives in Manchester. There's something odd about that, I'm sure you'd agree. Maybe she loves the weather over here? Sun is so depressing isn't it? Whatever the reason, America's loss is our gain. Born To is such a great pop song. [...]

Tweet Here's something we've seen a lot of near SGTMT Headquarters (London Branch) in the last few weeks: tourists. Of the 204 countries sending athletes here for the Olympic Games, only one of them has tourists who have been plastering our tube network with their stickers though; the Americans. Make of that what you will, we're just saying. Let's get one thing straight right now; we're the only ones who get to 'customise' our tube. OK? [...]

Tweet Amon Tobin has been bossing things recently, LIKE A BOSS . I recently read a comment from someone who had taught their toddler to shout " LIKE A BOSS " whenever he got his way. Pretty sweet. Like the time I taught my nephew to shout " MICHAEL BUBLE IS RUBBISH! " at the top of his voice in crowded places. I can't wait to have kids, you can make them do so much fun stuff. Amon Tobin should be [...]

Tweet We rule Olympic Ceremonies. No one else comes even close. Ha. However, we should probably fess up that in the world of beats and twiddly knobs French dance music rules. Don't try and pretend otherwise, the frogs are kings (though solely in this regard I must add). Proving this once again is the pulsating and unsubtle stylings of Vitalic with a new tune (and free download); No More Sleep .

[New Solo EP] Flea (from RHCP) - Helen Burns // No chili peppers here... It is a mostly instrumental, weird and arty record, the music is mostly just me creating soundscapes that are very emotional for me, but certainly not for everyone! Just me tripping out at home. I am putting it out to raise money for The Silverlake Conservatory of Music a community based non profit music school that I am an integral part of. - Flea A digital [...]

Tweet Ah, some dubstep on SGTMT ! It's been a while. Thanks very much for this one Asa and Eleven8 . This track finds two of our favourite producers from this ballpark of electronic music sharing the same space. Eleven82s remix of Asa's Sweeter Things combines the former's incredible atmospherics with the latter's bass and drum work. And it's well good: In our view, the best dubstep is almost [...]
London's Idjut Boys (a.k.a. Daniel Tyler and Conrad McConnell) have been deep in the mix for nearly two decades, throwing parties at venues like The Cross and beyond, and running their U-Star and Noid labels. While they've been producing and remixing tracks for ages, they've just gotten around to producing their debut album, Cellar Door, [...]

Tweet There's something about music which isn't quite all there that really does it for us. Music with wonderful melodies that are buried beneath intentionally muddy production. Or music that sounds like it's performed perfectly, but recorded in a room down the hall. We like music that hints at what it's going after rather than sitting us down and spelling it all out for us. For some reason it gets a stronger reaction than something just as good but more straightforward. We don't [...]
