My Bloody Valentine 3D Over the last few weeks I have slowly been catching up on some of the horror flicks that have come out this year. Two movies in particular, Paranormal Activity and My Bloody Valentine 3D , have exceeded expectations at the box-office but for vastly different reasons. Today I will focus on the latter and leave Paranormal for another day. James Cameron's much anticipated film, Avatar , is suppose to be the picture that finally legitimize the 3D movie [...]

Here is a trailer for the upcoming short film 'Friday The 13th: A Night With The Cool Kids & Mos Def' directed by Michael Sterling Eaton. The Cool Kids stopped by DD172, rocked a show, and chopped it up with Mos Def. How the rest of the night goes remains to be seen. Last Friday was positively epic, I spent the entire night running up and down stairs in a (successful) attempt to see all 10 bands that played between the upstairs and the downstairs of The Middle East . Here is the evidence: The Motion Sick Static of the Gods The Living Sea Where the Land Meets the Sea Ghost Ocean

Friday the 13th was made a little less spooky by the Oklahoma gentlemen Evangelicals bringing their touring selves to Glassworks . Along with the OK Evangelicals, who are way more than just OK, were Holiday Shores and Idiot Glee . Though, I'm blaming everything about the evening on Friday the 13th. It seemed that the only people not afraid of going out of the house to shows on Friday the 13th are those darned music bloggers. Don't be afraid, non music bloggers of Louisville, we few at this amazing show (very few [too few]) [...]

No costume, no party, no problem! Whether you are stuck at home giving out candy, or merely having a quiet night in, here are some of my favourite scary movies. Big Thoughts From A Small Mind's Top Films to watch on Halloween 11) Saw – The yearly, and vastly weaker, sequels has caused many to forget that the original Saw help to bring new life into the modern horror genre. 9) Ginger Snaps – Here is the first proof [...]
...and any hope I had that this might be better than Rob Zombie's Halloween just went right out the fucking window. Michael Meyers doesn't have mommy issues. He's also not a hillbilly. Both of those traits describe Jason Voorhees just fine, but not Michael Meyers. Congratulations, Rob, you are now doing sub-Platinum Dunes work. -AR RELATED POSTS: HAPPY FRIDAY [...]

Friday the 13th. Les Savy Fav . A Masonic Temple. There was just no way we could pass this one up. And adding the laid-back charms of Sean Bones to the bill only sweetened the deal, coaxing an imaginary island breeze through the temple's massive interior before Les Savy Fav took over and transformed the evening into the biggest horror movie slumber party ever. Before LSF dynamo Tim Harrington personally applied facials to the adoring crowd, before the strewn pillow guts and Harrington's own oft-exposed gut, Sean Bones kicked things off [...]

Killer Movie Directed By Jeff Fisher Peace Arch Productions DVD Release Date: 02.03.09 "Slasher films" have always had a special place in my heart. As a youngster, I enjoyed the original Friday the 13th series, Freddy Krueger was intriguing and Michael Myers scared the be-Jesus out of me with his stony silence and single-minded killing style. Though all of these movies and many others of the type have given me chills and I've jumped more than a few times, they never terrified me. For me, it was more about the psychology and the special effects than getting caught [...]

This morning I was sad to realize that my entire New Order collection is missing from my ITunes : / If I realized this on Monday, I would have posted "Blue Monday" instead of this Radio One Essential Mix . But as mentioned before, when originally posted, this mix is stellar. There is word on the street that a there is a North American Hacienda Tour being planned for 2009. This archived mix was originally posted March 13th, 2008 (weird, a year to this day exactly?!?!) Anyway, there's loads of New Order [...]

Depending on the day of the week, I have a love/hate relationship with Hollywood. On the one hand, they can produce some of the trashiest, mean-spirited, vapid and carelessly produced multi-million dollar productions one could possibly fathom. On the other hand, pump me up with enough drugs and commercials and I will gladly pay my student ID-reduced fee to see them and therefore encourage these studios to make even bigger, trashier and more expensive pieces of shit. I find them disgusting and hugely exciting at the same time (think Superhead) . Long story [...]
