Brooklyn disco-punk band Friends are all set to release their debut full-length, Manifest! , on June 5th through Fat Possum . Earlier this month, we posted the catchy disco-funk track Mind Control and now we get another from the album with the song Home . The song is another funky jam with frenetic drum beats throughout. Friends are the latest band of Brooklyn hipsters to try their hand at D.I.Y disco. Unlike the rest, however, they have something new hidden up their retro jacket sleeves – fresh-sounding pop tunes. Their second single, ‘I’m His Girl’ is built upon a lazy funk baseline which strolls, broad shouldered, over layers of post punk percussion. Bongos, bells and handclaps add depth without boiling over. That means no annoying cowbell solos splintering the melody. Read more..
Directed by Samantha Urbani of Friends + Aurora Halal (whose work has been featured a lot around here lately). Friends' irresistibly catchy I'm His Girl single - which, incidentally, vaguely recalls one of the best Cat Power songs , albeit with a considerably dirtier bassline - is out digitally and on 73 October 31 on Lucky Number .

I’m going to be honest. When I first heard “Friend Crush” by Brooklyn band Friends, I assumed that the lyric “I wanna’ be your friend” was just conveying the loneliness of our protagonist. However, if the sultry, brooding and deeply suggestive new video for “Friends Crush” is anything to go by, it seems like she’s after more than a friendly hug. Friends are the latest band of Brooklyn hipsters to try their hand at D.I.Y disco. Unlike the rest, however, they have something new hidden up their retro jacket sleeves – fresh-sounding pop tunes.
