" I'm His Girl " was a track of that toyed with retro sonic tropes - the absurdly funky baseline, the background vocal harmonies - in a way that made Friends feel almost kitschy. That might sound like a slight, but it isn't meant to be; "I'm His Girl" was one of our favorite tracks of the year because of its elements of pastiche and Brooklyn campiness. If you've been following the quick ascension of Friends ' popularity you'll be pleased to realise that we're only four days away from their debut album. Since their celebrated and often-talked about single "I'm His Girl" and just-as-loved video for it, the band have been heavily scrutinised with everything they've done, but each time like with "Mind Control" they've delivered. Friends just dropped a video for first single, “Mind Control”. It’s a take on those 80’s style British spy films, where lots of weird and random shit go down. Friends - “Mind Control”

While fairly disappointed by their live show on a few occasions, Friends' recorded output has managed to deliver twice - the great single "I'm His Girl" and today's track "Mind Control." While not as good as the former - there's a lot to love here. We expect some label news soon from this camp, but for now enjoy the two tracks we do have.

Friends gives us a clip for their latest single 'Mind Control' from the forthcoming debut ' Manifest .' This is the kind of music you can expect us to be blasting for the Summer, rooftop parties, cookouts included. Friends - Mind Control

Another week, another Brooklyn buzz band. One of the few guitar bands on the BBC Sound of 2012 list, Friends lept onto many a rader last year with the release of I'm His Girl and now they have given more, with new single Mind Control . It's an upbeat pop pie with a hearty filling of funky basslines and yelping vocals courtesy of Samantha Urbani - exactly what caught our eye about them in the first place then. Finally there is news on New York's Friends . The funky pop dance fun band who knows how to make a party at their live shows. I happened to see them play in Ottawa on November 24, 2011 . The band dropped a new single. Mind Control has that 1980s new wave pop "Prince" sound. The single is taken from their upcoming album "Manifest" which drops on June 5th on Fat Possum (WOW congrats to them being signed to a great label!!) Have a listen.

    Después de rolas como " Friend Crush " o " I'm His Girl ", todos moríamos por escuchar más de Friends. El hype los llevó a tocar mucho a principios de este año, y hasta vinieron al Festival NRMAL en Monterrey, en donde lo hicieron muy bien. Ahora nos presentan "Mind Control" un nuevo track que vendrá incluido en su álbum debut Manifest! que saldrá el 4 de junio. Enjoy.

Brooklyn spandex sporters Friends befriended B-listers and the B List alike with I'm His Girl in particular and Mind Control, another glimpse into debut full-length Manifest! (anticipated June 4th via Lucky Number ), seems as though it'll only fortify such bond. Samantha Urbani's yappy vox recall the lackadaisical tones of Tahita Bulmer although slathered atop an irrepressibly percussive funk that immediately recalls fabled fellow New Yorkers Liquid Liquid the track, mixed by Paul Epworth (who coincidentally remixed NYPC's The Bomb way back when), is accredited with a typically sassy seductiveness.
