Frightened Rabbit by Brian Lowe When Pedestrian Verse made its way to KCRW , Jason mentioned that it’s a record that will see a lot of “Best Of” lists by the end of the year. Here we are, halfway into March and still a long way to go, but that sentiment remains true. In their return to Morning Becomes Eclectic, right before embarking on tour, the brothers Hutchinson and the rest of the band from Scotland gave us plenty of reasons why their [...]
Scotland triumphantly invaded Hollywood as a double shot of Frightened Rabbit and the Twilight Sad easily sold out the Fonda Theater. Frightened Rabbit ripped through a compelling set giving the audience a walkthrough of their new album Pedestrian Verse . The Twilight Sad opted for the "Coffee house vibe" with a stripped down three piece performance. Check out the photos in the gallery above and the setlist below. Read More... [...]

A few months ago, I wrote about the increasing influence of Mumford & Sons and how that band's brand of bleeding-heart folk-rock represents the convergence of certain indie trends (howling Avett Brothers roots rock, bookish Decemberists folk-prog, humongous Arcade Fire stadium anthems, woodsy Fleet Foxes classic rock worship) with a long tradition of jammy and/or hammy frat rock - the Dave Matthews Bands and Barenaked Ladies of the world. Mumford is dominating the music industry according to every conceivable metric - digital and physical sales, radio spins, Spotify streams, concert attendance, festival poster font, intangible youthful zeitgeist - [...]
On last night's episode of Conan , the Scottish band Frightened Rabbit did musical-guest duty, playing their sad-bastard anthem " The Woodpile " about as hard as a song like that can be played. The band brought so many guitars with them and, in the process, did admirable work translating the song's cathartic grandeur to the stage. Watch it below. Read More... [...]
Upcoming Live Performances on MORNING BECOMES ECLECTIC with host JASON BENTLEY Monday, March 4, Sean Rowe's deep baritone and insightful songs recall the work of Leonard Cohen. His latest album reveals his poetic heart and we’ll hear them live on Morning Becomes Eclectic at 11:15am. Thursday, March 7, Scottish band Frightened Rabbit have created one of Jason Bentley’s favorite albums of the year. We’re thrilled to welcome them for a live performance on Morning Becomes Eclectic at 11:15am. Friday, March [...]

I wrote a little bit about the new Frightened Rabbit album, Pedestrian Verse , prior to its release, and I praised it, because it's a very good album. But experiencing the singles as they are released (so far: " State Hospital ," " Dead Now ," " The Woodpile ," and now "Backyard Skulls") really emphasizes just how damn good these songs are. My one-sentence review of Pedestrian Verse is basically: Better than Winter Of Mixed Drinks , not as good as Midnight Organ Fight . But Midnight Organ Fight [...]
Just yesterday, the Scottish band Frightened Rabbit released Pedestrian Verse , their fourth straight album of chest-beating emotional anthems. But the video they've released today isn't for any of the album's songs; it's for "Today's Cross," the uncharacteristically rambunctious B-side of their " The Woodpile " single. The seriously entertaining video, from directors Ian Greenhill and Jordan Laird , tells the story of how Jesus Christ deals with a mean case of writer's block. Watch it below. Read More... [...]

[author-name] Frightened Rabbit's 2008 sophomore album, The Midnight Organ Fight , was a dark, intimate, stirring collection that dealt with themes of loneliness and sex in such frank detail - with frontman Scott Hutchison's yearning voice in glaring focus among skin-and-bones instrumentation - that it was occasionally uncomfortable to listen to, though intensely engaging. The album caught me off guard, and connected with me like a long, drunken reconciliation with an old friend. The band's follow-up, 20102s The Winter Of Mixed Drinks , was, for me, [...]
[author-name] Frightened Rabbit seem like good dudes: They're genuinely funny guys, they write passionate songs, they leave it on the stage every night, and for Christmas, they give away music to be played by the fireplace (or fire escape, I guess, depending on your home's configuration). This year the Xmas choon is called "She Screams Christmas," and it's a somber, pretty, wintry treat. Download, mix more bourbon into eggnog, listen. Read More... [...]
Stereogum The video for "The Woodpile," a swollen and emotional song from braying Scottish rockers Frightened Rabbit's forthcoming Pedestrian Verse , is a single-shot tableau of a bloody scene in a New York bodega. The members of the band join a crowd of onlookers at the scene of an accident, and you should probably stay tuned for the surprise-ending punchline. Watch the video below. Read More... [...]

Stereogum Scotland's Frightened Rabbit released a new EP not two months ago, and followed that with a monthlong Stateside tour, but they're not slowing down yet. Today we get the first single (and video) from the band's fourth LP, the 2013 release Pedestrian Verse . "Dead Now" feels kind of refreshingly subdued, considering the band's recent propensity for pounding, soaring anthemry (see: " State Hospital "; " Living In Colour ") - which is admittedly thrilling, but can also become kind of overbearing in large [...]

Confira:

Stereogum Last week, we got our first listen to the studio version of " State Hospital ," the title track from Frightened Rabbit's forthcoming EP. Today, the clip for the track has surfaced, giving glimpses into the emotional trauma of a woman who is (presumably) a resident of the hospital in question. It's a big, uplifting song, but a gray, depressing video. Watch. Read More... [...]

Stereogum Several live takes of Frightened Rabbit's "State Hospital" have surfaced in 2012, but we've finally got our first listen to the studio version of the song, the title track from the Scottish band's forthcoming EP. It's a sweeping, cinematic anthem, more "Living In Colour" than "The Modern Leper." I'd be happy with either of those approaches, honestly. The EP will be released 9/24 via Atlantic, preceding a North American tour kicking off in October and a new studio album coming in 2013. Till then, this will have [...]
