Scottish indie rockers Frightened Rabbit turn Cheap Trick's "Surrender" into very Scottish indie rock sort of tune.
The first night I met Frank Turner , just over four years ago, we bonded over a mutual obsession with Frightened Rabbit 's Midnight Organ Fight . I have a recording of him singing me the first couple lines of this song but never dreamed I'd hear the rest. Then, my dear friend and punk celebrity Ben Morse posted this video from yesterday's Record Store Day celebration. Related articles The Way I Tend To Be [...]

Longtime favorites around these parts, Frightened Rabbit , paid a visit to Conan this week to play a searing rendition of their new single The Woodpile. This video serves as a nice teaser as we actually have our interview with Scott Hutchison slotted for later today, which we hope to run with a photo set from the upcoming tour stop at Terminal 5. Have a look at this performance in the meantime. Click here to view the embedded video.
On last night's episode of Conan , the Scottish band Frightened Rabbit did musical-guest duty, playing their sad-bastard anthem " The Woodpile " about as hard as a song like that can be played. The band brought so many guitars with them and, in the process, did admirable work translating the song's cathartic grandeur to the stage. Watch it below. Read More...

I'm ashamed to admit that my last post on Frightened Rabbit was in August 2011 . I mean, we had such a good thing going . But last year's State Hospital EP slipped through the cracks, and now the band comes roaring back with Pedestrian Verse , the band's fourth full-length studio album and first for a major label (Atlantic). I ask for forgiveness – and I also ask that the band return to play Phoenix again (we have such great memories ). [...]
Scottish indie-rock outfit Frightened Rabbit just put out its fourth studio LP, Pedestrian Verse (Atlantic). Following up December single "The Woodpile," Scott Hutchison and the fellows have released a video for b-side "Today's Cross." The clip consists of a rugged Jesus-type trying to kill time in a white-walled bedroom by playing a Gameboy, drinking whiskey and inhaling some [...]
Human eyeballs are attracted to disaster. Whether it's rubberneckers on the road, or Reality TV, we all want to know; What's happening to them? Maybe the same is true of music videos that lean heavily toward the "odd" column. Personally, if it's downright frightening, I don't include it on Moving Pictures. Sometimes though, [...]

We got alot of love for Frightened Rabbit. When musing upon their new album, we called Pedestrian Verse "a collection of songs that are beautifully honest, superbly melodic and knowingly direct." 'Backyard Skulls' inparticular came in for praise: "Tracks such as the driving, anthemic ‘Backyard Skulls’ provide muscle, building on a rumbling bass motif and urgent drums into a melody so windingly confident it is easy to forget that Hutchinson is essentially singing about digging up people in his back garden, cooing “all our secrets are smothered in dirt underneath paving stones, lying, waiting [...]
February should be dubbed ' Frightened Rabbit Month', should it not? The band released 'Pedestrian Verse' at the start of the month; read Carrie's review of the album here. Last week we showed you the video for 'Today's Verse' , the b-side to 'The Woodpile'. Having graduated from indie label Fat Cat to major Atlantic, there's no doubt the band must be gearing up for what will no doubt be their star turn at this year's SXSW. One of their appearances will include a visit [...]

I wrote a little bit about the new Frightened Rabbit album, Pedestrian Verse , prior to its release, and I praised it, because it's a very good album. But experiencing the singles as they are released (so far: " State Hospital ," " Dead Now ," " The Woodpile ," and now "Backyard Skulls") really emphasizes just how damn good these songs are. My one-sentence review of Pedestrian Verse is basically: Better than Winter Of Mixed Drinks , not as good as Midnight Organ Fight . But Midnight Organ Fight [...]

For many a music(al) blogger, there are the songs we like and then there are the song we post about. Not to say the two don't overlap sometimes, but when a song isn't BRAND new (December of two-thousand TWELVE?), or high in the totem pole of hippest news on the block, we keep it in [...]
The above video is for b-side Today's Cross by Frightened Rabbit . I mention this for two reasons: Firstly, I really like the song. This is good news, as I wasn't that keen on their last album, and they are really nice guys so I genuinely want to like their stuff. Now I am looking forward to hearing their new record Pedestrian Verse , which is good. Secondly, the video above was made by young Ian who works for Song, by Toad Records , along with some [...]
You ever have one of those days where you've gotta get something done, but every time you try and make some progress you something distracts you, or you get drawn in by that bottle of Jameson across the room? Yeah, Jesus does too. Or at least modern day, bath-robed, slippers-and-socks Jesus does. Frightened Rabbit's new video gives us a glimpse into the tortured writer side of Jesus Himself. With a deadline fast approaching, Jesus tries to finish up the New Testament but keeps finding inspiration (or procrastination) in throwing darts at a picture of Judas, some bedroom putt-putt, [...]
