Ok, so we Angelinos are no strangers to the LA Times taking shots at the EDM scene, but it's sad to see their sister publication taking the same stance about this weekend's EDC festival in Chicago. It always comes back to drug deaths? Are they serious? Why don't they go to a Bears or Blackhawks game and see how many crimes are committed? Head to your next rock concert and take a deep breath… what's that smell? It's fucking weed. You could almost say other big events are even worse with the massive alcohol consumption, fights and I'm sure [...]

W hat if we told you there was a way you could sell, or better yet, buy music that was formerly considered to be "bootlegged" or illegal? All those tunes that have been so hard to get, or buried away on white label vinyl never to be seen again, it's just a tragedy that it's not available legally. Well the good news is that there is a now a real solution to this problem, and it's called Legitmix. Magnetic got the chance to catch up with Booker Sim one of the cofounders of Legitmix to get [...]

If you are unfamiliar with the tunes of Kayzo, now would be in your ear's best interest to start. Just recently this talented producer leaked the second installment off his upcoming Limitless EP, called "Bounce" and has no intention of stopping the slow leaks. "Bounce," has all the ingredients to a great trap track, packing enough energy to get you out of your seat and on your feet. If the "face down, ass up" didn't have you immediately singing a long, the beat will be sure to do the trick as I'm having a hard time myself from not dancing. [...]

Ok, so you love Daft Punk… like really love. Here is a chance to get all creepy and fan out hard… Just think of all the attention you will get rolling down the street rocking this thing. Indie Electro band City Rain deliver a beautiful and inspiring music video for their catchy tune "The Optimist." Love and Loss in the Recession, “The Optimist,” is the human condition as told though the eyes of the young men of City Rain. While every person has the capability to create his or her own personal hell, there is inversely their capability to manifest redemption. “The Optimist” is the story of the way back. Having graduated from Temple University in 2009, Ben Runyan and Scott Cumpstone lived two very different lives but were on a path to [...]

Joel Zimmerman gives us a sneak peek of two works in progress, “Monophobia”, and “Killthemau5.” "Monophobia" is a 2:15 sample reminiscent of Joel’s earlier work with his classic groovin' basslines and dirty synths mixed in. "Killthemau53 opens with a film-score-like orchestral intro and proceeds to unleash some dark and glitchy experimental sounds from deep within Zimmerman's subconscious. "Killthemau53 more than likely inherited it’s name from Kill the Noise, as Joel tweeted them with an fair review of the track, “…@killthenoise .. kinda bastardized it a bit, but its sonicly cool [...]

I've been waiting awhile to see what Bro Safari & UFO! have been hiding up their sleeve, and with the anticipation of their collaboration, Animal, coming out tomorrow, it's safe to say it's starting to kill me. But let me tell you with the release of this tune, I know it's going to be well worth the wait. "Burn The Block," is one of those tracks that make you feel instantly better and energized. If you're having a bad day, turn on this tune. If you're not… your day is about to get better. With it's "hood like" feel and [...]
You may have noticed that the last two albums of the week have been from artists that have signed to corporations. I think you'll agree that although we share the disappointment that The Flaming Lips (long time on a major label) and James Blake, and indeed French electronic duo Daft Punk have elected to choose corporations to release (or own?) their labours, all deserve to be feted for what they are still achieving in music. The Flaming Lips and Daft Punk albums are up there with their best and all three artists began as independents. Indie30 detests corporations that milk [...]
Madrid, Spain. (2011) Three new ones this week plus a big moves for Mood Rings and Saturday Looks Good To Me. The highest debutant is Dirty Beaches with his abrasive rocking ode to Lisbon, 'Casino Lisboa' in at 22. One of the masters of modern indie pop, Glasweigan sextet Camera Obscura have a new album, Desire Lines coming out early June and the gifted track 'Fifth In Line To The Throne' debuts at 24. That's a rare free download below folks. Free and legal mp3s are getting harder and harder [...]

Well we can't confirm that, but he is definitely getting down with Uniqlo. If you are not familiar with Uniqlo yet, you should definitely peep them. Unfortunately they are only in New York and SF, but they should be coming to more markets soon. Good news is that you can shop online, so not so bad. Anyways, it's good to know that there are some DJs that are cool enough to show their nerdy side, who doesn't love the first Star Wars saga, c'mon now. We can hardly wait for the new franchise reboot by J.J. Abrams, but [...]

Tweet Today sees the release of the debut EP, Venus Bar from French electronic producer Adrien Viot aka AV. Firmly wedded to 80s electronic pop with a nod to new wave synth, Viot's style harks back to the pop oriented side of French cold wave acts, Taxi Girl and Suicide Romeo. The title track saunters along with heavy oscillating bass, distorted synth, metallic like melodies and effects and Viot's deep whispered vocal. Sung in French, the EP contains four tracks that evoke a [...]

This weekend Culprit LA is back with it's second installment of the label's premiere rooftop parties at the The Standard Hotel. This Sunday's session features PBR Streetgang, Frech techno maestro- Dan Ghenacia and Plastic Love. I had the opportunity to catch up with Dan-chatting about his new record label, Circo Loco- Ibiza and more. It's been a tremendous year for the man described as, "Paris After Hours King". His acidic and hypnotizing productions create the perfect vibes for the season. To get Culprits summer sessions started, PBR put together this fresh deep mix to give you a taste of what [...]
