I love Janelle Monae collaborations . This much is clear. That said, it's been more than a year since The Archandroid came out. For the sake of aesthetics itself, she needs to release another album. So I was understandably skeptical of her use of time when I heard her collaboration with Fun, on "We Are Young." Hot out of the oven single from Fun. called “We Are Young”. The song was seriously lacking something, until the 2:30 mark where a grand ballroom celebration takes place. Also pretty cool is some backing vocals from Janelle Monae . It’s a pretty toned down piece of music from the band, missing all of it’s normal overblown theatrics. While all three of these bands have had their share of success; these three members have decided to intertwine their styles into one concrete sound as a side project. The stuff that comes from the Fueled by Ramen label isn't normally up our musical alley. But when we saw that Fun. was collaborating with Prefix-favorite Janelle Monae, we had to see what it was all about. And, as expected, she's made the otherwise corny power-pop anthem "We Are Young" at least stronger vocally. She provides backup vocals throughout the track, which features a grandiose choral breakdown and pseudo-boom-bap drum beat. I'm sure kids will love this -- and I mean that in the nicest way possible -- but I just wish Monae would stick to working on the follow-up [...]

Cobra Starship is an American pop punk/synthpop band created by former Midtown bassist and lead vocalist Gabe Saporta in 2005 in New York City, New York. Other members are guitarist Ryland Blackinton, bassist Alex Suarez, drummer Nate Novaro, and keytarist Victoria Asher, all of whom provide backing vocals.
