By Alex Brenner Although I must say 2012 has been pretty good musically so far, I always find myself digging up some older records. When I say older I'm talking about late 902s and up, not the classics. Talking with fellow A-Lister Rube, the other night we did a little reminiscing and it got me thinking about some great records of the past. The ones where you say "Oh man, I have not heard that in forever!" I do listen to tons of new music too, however, these are some you may have forgotten about or [...]

Today's song is "Burn A Miracle" by Say Anything . This is the first single off the band's upcoming fourth studio album, Anarchy, My Dear on Equal Vision Records. Produced by Tim O'Heir (Say Anything, Sebadoh, Superdrag) the record will be released on on March 13th, 2012. Say Anything have been making odd, unclassifiable indie rock music since they were 14 or 15 years old. Characterized as by what one might imagine if Larry David fronted a Fugazi cover band with the members of Queen. Not that that's a stretch or anything. They have [...]

Fugazi - Glue Man Legend. perpetua : It occurred to me yesterday that it's been over a decade since a record came out featuring Guy Picciotto as either a singer or guitarist. Ten years! I realize that if he wanted to do something, he probably would've done something in that time, but man, it's just crazy to think that one of the best singers in the history of rock music has retired so young. I really hope he does something again someday, with or without Fugazi.

With probably the longest entry of 2011 we give the floor to regular MM contributor and top ten compiler...Dr Roddy. Well it seems to be that time of year again. I always spend 340 days looking forward to doing this and 25 agonising over it. This year especially though, as I think there has been a bumper harvest of great songs. When I looked at my Top Ten playlist (with over 100 songs in it) I just thought one thing: bugger! I got there in the end though. There have been certain parties that have tried [...]

Award-winning Irish documentary photographer Seamus Murphy created stunning short films for each song on PJ Harvey's eighth studio album, Let England Shake. They have now been compiled on a limited-edition DVD that will be released January 31 via Vagrant/Island ... Sean Lennon composed the 22-track score for the upcoming film from writer/director Jordan Galland, Alter Egos. It [...]

Fugazi is a band from Washington, DC. Between 1987 and 2003 Ian MacKaye, Joe Lally, Brendan Canty and Guy Picciotto played over 1000 concerts, covering all fifty United States, Europe, Australia, South America, Japan and many points in between. Over 800 of these shows were recorded by the band's sound engineers, often on high quality recording gear. The Fugazi Live Series , officially launched on December 1, 2011, is a complete online archive of these concerts. Show pages will [...]

Who says that you can't go home...Fugazi launched its "Live Archive" site today which has 130 shows available as digital downloads. I spent some time this evening reliving my youth and downloading some the Fugazi shows that I attended in the late 80's and early 90's. Between 1987 and 2003, Fugazi played over 1000 concerts in all 50 states and all over the world. Over 800 of these shows were recorded by the band's sound engineers. The goal of this project is to make each of these recordings available to download for a [...]

As promised , Dischord Records have opened up their soon-to-be-massive live show archive for download. The site will eventually have tracks from 800 performances from their formation in 1987 through the indefinite hiatus in 2003/2004 . The significant undertaking includes $5 downloads of each show, but offers people the opportunity to set their own price from $1.00 to $100. Check it out here .

Photo courtesy Dischord Records Fugazi may be on indefinite hiatus, but the post-hardcore punk icons are holding true to their word and have released the first batch of recordings comprising their massive live archival project . Beginning today, live recordings of 130 concerts are available for download on record label Dischord's website . In addition to 100 previously unreleased shows, 30 concerts originally presented on the now out-of-print Fugazi Live Series are being offered at a suggested $5 each—in keeping with Fugazi's original ticket price—or on a sliding scale of $1-$100 (if [...]
Good news comes by way of today's opening of the Fugazi Live Series. The band recorded over 800 of their shows and now they have made 130 concert downloads available (100 new shows plus the 30 shows released on the now out-of-print Fugazi Live Series CDs). Additional downloads, photos, flyers, etc. will be added regularly until the entire archive is available. Show pages will feature data from the concerts and (when available) related photos, flyers and MP3 downloads. Visitors will be encouraged to comment on the shows and recordings, and to contribute images and recordings to fill the gaps. The [...]
The Fugazi Live Series A-Z offers downloads of live performances by the band as well as a social network centered on the shows. The Guardian examines the use of alternate histories in fiction. The List of Online Year-End 2011 Music Lists was updated yesterday with Paste's songs of the year, PopMatters' best indie rock albums, Metacritic's ranked aggregation of music critics' lists, and much more. I've heard about some pretty large archival collections, but this one certainly trumps them all. Today, legendary D.I.Y. punk outfit Fugazi launches their Fugazi Live Series . During their career the band recorded over 800 of their concerts. Those are all listed in the archive, with data, photos and flyers (where available), and MP3s. Fans are asked to contribute by providing their comments on shows they attended as well uploading their own photos and other media. Right now there are 130 full concerts that are available for download, with plans [...]
The sound engineers for DC postpunk heroes Fugazi, one of the greatest live bands on the planet back when they were still a functional live band, did the world a favor by recording most of the shows that the band played over the years. And recently, the band launched a massive archive of those live recordings, generally available for $5 a pop right here . This is a new venture; they're still adding shows, and the search function doesn't work too well at the moment. But Fugazi never did anything halfassed, so chances are they'll get all that ironed [...]
