Editor's Note: The end of 2012 is upon us (also the end of the world, if you believe in that sort of thing), so we thought we'd put a cap on things by sharing some of our personal favorite shows... Continue reading "Full Circle with The Flaming Lips: 2012 In Review" >

It took only 10 minutes — five spent cracking some jokes and doing some last-minute guitar tuning — for World Party to transport the audience to another time Saturday night at the Troubadour. "Bang!" goes the lyric in "Is It Like Today?," the U.K. band's philosophy-heavy hit that for a time in 1993 gave U.S. radio listeners a respite from stadium monsters.*** And bang, the crowd, which included a smattering of luminaries (Lucinda Williams and Edward James Olmos were spotted, the latter taking phone pictures near the front), was zapped to a time when finely honed, [...]
Standing out among this year's breakout acts is Field Report, the new folk project from Minnesota native Chris Porterfield. Formerly a member of the Eau Claire band DeYarmond Edison (which also featured Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and members of Megafaun), Porterfield relocated to Milwaukee where he rekindled his love for music . When its eponymous debut was ... Continue reading

The legendary DJ, producer, and multi-instrumentalist King Britt has revived his Full Circle radio show as a podcast. Here's what he has to say about it: In the early to mid 90s, I had a radio show at Temple University called Full Circle. For the time, it was groundbreaking with guests like 4Hero, Goldie, Omar, ... "Go Fly a Kite makes for 39 minutes of undemanding, breezy and serviceable pop-rock..." Ben Kweller | Go Fly a Kite Although entirely in keeping with his fresh-faced looks, it is still hard to believe that Texas-based singer Ben Kweller is only 30 years of age. He has been on the music scene for more than half of those years, his high school rock band Radish having appeared at the Reading festival way back in 1997. Kweller began writing songs aged nine and had formed the band by the time he was [...]

Los Angeles Times (MCT) -- LOS ANGELES - Saturday at the Stagecoach Country Music Festival in Indio, Calif., the Mavericks will make their first bona-fide concert appearance in nearly seven years. The show by the revered and genre-defying band is billed as a reunion and it's one of the marquee special moments of this year's festival. It's also a standout moment for the band, whose members are coming back together after a turbulent career run that began with a rewarding...

Ben Kweller performed at Union Transfer promoting his new album, Go Fly A Kite , on March 21 st . While Kweller may have been attempting to promote his new work, those gathered that night seemed much more enthusiastic about his old hits. The crowd was certainly nostalgic, as cheers rang out at the start of old favorites, such as “Wasted and Ready” or “On My Way.” Mouths moved along with the lyrics, bodies swayed to Kweller’s pulsing guitar and melodious piano. Concert-goers seemed at more of a loss with the new [...]

by teepoo I've heard a ton of hype lately about Montreal's Half Moon Run, so I decided to see what the big deal is. Now I have been listening to their latest release Dark Eyes non stop. Their style of fast-talking and rhythmic music is so infectious. Full Circle is the title track but you seriously have to head over to Bandcamp and here the rest. Oh yah here's the video:
It's been just about three years since the boys of Half Moon Run found each other through a well-timed posting on Craiglist, and in that time the Montreal-based trio have managed to create an impressive few waves with critics, almost entirely on the strength of a lone EP. Until now, that is, as the band is gearing up to deliver their debut full-length, Dark Eyes , next week (that's March 27) through Indica / Outside . As it's explained in their news release, the three twentysomethings (Devon Portielje, Conner Molander, Dylan Phillips) weave folky, 60s-inspired harmonies in and [...]
Net zoals...

So this week I thought I would bust out some Deadmau5 for all those fans out there that have only been listening to him since Ghosts n' Stuff brought him into the lime light. I started listening to him in 2008 with the release of Random Album Title, and you would probably hear it thumping down the hall ways of my university residence a few times a day. I been to two of his concerts, and I must say...you haven't seen shit for an electro show until you've seen Deadmau5 on his Cube. I find many people have [...]

mp3: Glorie - "Full Circle" Inspirational, delightful and awesome. Instrumental music makes me think of road trips, is it the progression? the beat? the sense of wandering? Don't know. But I like Glorie . From Memphis.
Waves, the third album from post-rock powerhouse Moving Mountains, is not to be missed.

Brooks' recent post on Big Star put me in the mind of some other music from long ago. Various songs started swirling between my ears and one thing led to another. Led, in fact, to a couple of songs from the swarm of groups and music that sprang from two of the most fecund groups to have started playing rock in the '60s: The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield. You could call their music country rock, folk rock or even southern rock. But they bloomed like flowers and burst like seed pods sending forth [...]
