If we are to believe the FYF Fest's Facebook page , the downtown L.A. festival — which rallied from consecutive problem-plagued years to stage a virtual mini-Coachella last September — will be a two-day affair in 2012. The page's latest status says: " FYF Fest . Sept. 1st & 2nd. Tell us 5 bands that you'd like to see at the festival. Be creative." Come to think of it, I have some ideas.

FYF are presenting a pretty amazing show this week which includes the always exuberant Man Man , Grandchildren and a very special guest. English indie rock band Arctic Monkeys returned to Raleigh tonight, Oct. 12, and performed at Disco Rodeo . The band visited the venue April 2010, but this year brought along Smith Westerns to open. Chicago-based Smith Westerns released their sophomore album earlier this year. Since then, they have played with TV on the Radio , Cults and Yeasayer , in addition to international festivals including Austin City Limits Music Festival , Fyf Fest , Leeds Festival , Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo . FYF Fest, which has had issues with security and crowds in previous years, seems to have moved past those problems and evolved into a healthier, happier festival. Standout sets included Girls, who played heavily from their upcoming Father, Son, Holy Ghost , buzzbuilders Purity Ring and steady, show-those-tikes-how-it's-done vets like Guided By Voices and the Descendents. This year's FYF Fest was a complete turnaround from 2010's logistical nightmare and overall chaos, I mean just look at the smile on that bro's face in the pic above. 2011 felt more like an outdoor All Tomorrow's Parties experience and less like a trip to the DMV. FYF Fest promised us "the best day of summer" and they came through with their word. This years festival was a complete highlight and was pulled off without the issues that many had to deal with in the previous year. Their team up with Goldenvoice was a very smart move and won back plenty of fans. I really didn't hear any complaints from festival goers while I was there or afterwards online. FYF Fest will be pulling off some major shows this weekend other than their yearly festival which will be taking place at L.A. Historic Park on Saturday, September 3rd. Fool's Gold's sophomore album "Leave No Trace" arrived earlier this month like an umbrella drink, mixing sweet and bright African beats with the intoxicating yearning of '80s mopes like the Smiths and the Cure. Singer Luke Top's full-throated entreaties, sung entirely in English this time (he did some songs in Hebrew on the debut), exude optimism over the complex rhythms and Lewis Pesacov's pointillist guitar work.
