With over a winter's month to mull it over our Indie 50 for 2011 are unveiled. The focus, as always, is discovering emerging acts, so this list reflects some of the best of that group, i.e. emphasis on obscurity. Most "mainstream arists" deserving of recognition are excluded from the numbered list and included in the footer. Neon Indian, who happens to win the numero uno spot, is one exception to the rule. In today's Listomania, we unveil our favorite 10 bands who have a member that doesn't play or do anything, and that's no intended sleight to these critical players, whether they be hypemen, " vibes managers ," or just token old dudes to round out a musical family. Honorable mention goes out to Broken Social Scene's fourth guitar player, or to any band who has more guitarists than three - we've ran the numbers, and there's a huge marginal decline after that third guitarist. Anyway, check out the list and let us know who we might have missed in the comments.

Brian DeGraw, of New York's Gang Gang Dance has gone solo and started producing alone in a louder, more aggressive manner. W0RM B1N is unlike anything we've ever heard, DeGraw takes GGD's cultural sound even further and forces the attention of listeners.

Editor's Note Happy New Year! Some of you are probably wondering what happened to us. Well work, family, and of course organizing our little (not so little anymore) variety show Snob Theater has taken quite a bit of time away from the website. We've had probably the best year so far and I'm happy to announce my favorite records of 2011 to launch the reboot of Kata Rokkar. I don't review albums at all but i do listen to a shitload and it's been a great and surprising year for new music. [...]

Well well.. Our 2011 calendars seem to only have a couple of days left until they run out of paper. I guess that means that it is time for Blouse to reflect and cherry pick the things that we felt made 2011 the year that it was.

ALBUMS OF 2011 #35 - #31 #35 Destroyer - Kaputt - Poor In Love ( MP3 ) A January release date rendered Destroyer 's Kaputt one of 2011's first great records. Its the ninth studio album from Vancouver's Dan Bejar, a re-imagining of 1980s synthpop and glamorous shoegaze, laden with female harmonies and brass sections, squealing dance synths and seamless intertwining transitions of close-mic vocals, watery background noise and modern synthesisers. #34 Gang Gang Dance - Eye Contact - Mindkilla ( MP3 ) [...]

If you've been even remotely regular in following this blog, our number one shouldn't come as a surprise - I believe I've already bothered you enough with my love of Gang Gang Dance's latest effort (and GGD in general ). I'll leave the list unnumbered because, except for the first 7-8 entries, the rest come in kind of (but not entirely) particular order. And it's not a strictly albums -of-the-year list, as I've included some mixtapes/remix albums/ compilations. Also, I just realised we haven't covered half of this on the blog… Don't [...]

December gave us a lot of retrospective lists on 2011 and many discussions about songs and albums. Because of this, we nearly forgot to keep you posted about new stuff. There are a lot of new albums coming in early 2012 (just as from of Montreal on the picture above) below there are some of the tunes that will make look forward to the records! (No guerolitoplaylist this month though.) mp3 | Bed Rugs - What Does It Mean mp3 | Islands - This Is Not A Song [...]

Off the top of my head (and according to the charts from my several last.fm accounts), here are 25 songs I've had on repeat sometime in 2011. Also, judging from our previous experience , having a post with a bunch of mp3s is good for driving traffic! Gang Gang Dance – Glass Jar Litanic Mask – Virgin Spring U.S. Girls – The Island Song Pictureplane [...]

WE'RE BACK! And remembering 2011. Initially we felt that this perhaps hadn't been the most sonically astounding year, but having had to refine 12 months' worth of music down to a mere 25 highlights has been a troublesome task indeed. This year has also been an odd one in terms of strong artists producing strong albums, but not individual tracks that will make the list below (Expect Best Albums and Honorable Mentions imminently). So, let's get to it.... 25. Metronomy - The Bay ( Erol Alkan 's Extended Rework) [...]

1. Ifan Dafydd - Miranda (Push and Run) 2. Black Star - You Already Knew 3. Gonjasufi - Nikels and Dimes (Warp) 4. JJ Doom - Rhymin Slang (Dave Sitek Remix) 5. Black Moth Super Rainbow - Dreamsicle Bomb 6. Gang Gang Dance - Chinese High (Nguzunguzu Remix) 7. Floating Points - ARP3 (Eglo) 8. Dauwd - Ikopol (Pictures) 9. Cos Ber Zam - Ne Noya (Daphni Mix) 10. Lando Kal - Further (Hotflush) 11. Kingdom - Stalker Ha (Fade To Mind) 12. Blawan - Peaches (Coronation) 13. [...]
![[Listen] Lizzi Bougatsos: "Holiday (Dope Xxxmas)" (Feat. Josh Diamond)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3947477_lg.jpg)

This Music Wins Albums Of 2011 #1 // 40 - 31 continued from part #1 #40 Girls - Father, Son, Holy Ghost (True Panther Sounds) Arguably Girls ' most courageous attempt yet, here the San Francisco surf rock band venture in to the realm of classic rock, not stopping short of cheesy licks, walking bass-lines or even gospel choirs. The soulful backing singers and hammond organs characterise most of 'Vomit', a song which strikes at [...]
