The other day I was sitting at my desk wondering if maybe I werent missing out on a basic human experience by abstaining from weed. (Yeah, that sounds like the thought process of someone who needs to smoke weed, right?) Synchronicity being a thing, Jeff sent over a link to a piece on a band called Weed at the same damn time. It was basically fated to happen, you know? Weed is [...]

And while each band held their own in their unique ways, Stone Temple Pilots were the seasoned veterans at the time and pretty much stole the show when an intoxicated Scott Weiland took the stage for an encore wearing nothing but an American flag loosely draped over himself. When he was done with the last song, Scott exited the stage sans flag, and it was at the moment [...]

by Something Else! Reviews

The mighty Maharajas latest single "Black Box" (Chaputa Records), perhaps a teaser for their upcoming new album, is a winner. Up-tempo and rockin, "Black Box" to my ears bears a strong Fuzztones/Music Machine influence - mixed with the Maharajas own fab '60s Euro-garage style. "Bait Car" is the opening track of the band's forthcoming debut, Ideal Cities, out May 25. Nostalgic for the 90s? Even if you're not, "Bait Car" sounds pretty promising either way.

New single 'Two Reasons' (out now on Sonic Unyon) is a taught set of angular melodies, tinged with joyful regret, Sort of like Franz Ferdinand without the smugness. There's an album called 'Stay Young' on the way and it's probably fair to expect the serious business of having fun to loom large on that as well. This is a good thing, in that it's the rare release these days that manages to convey longing, want, need, or sadness without screaming and yelling. Pale Hearts express their emotions through plaintive songs which still manage to jangle and swing. It's spaghetti western via new wave - not unlike Wall of Voodoo covering Ennio Morricone . The first track has some weird vocal issues, like they're way high in the mix, but the rest of the album sounds [...]
